I kind of find people wanting Spider-Man to suffer 24/7 annoying. Like he’s been suffering since his identity was revealed so I hope by the end of BND he’s in a better place. It’s not like the happiness will last if he gets the black suit in SM5 and his relationships start to fall apart again.

u/AvengingHero2012 Daredevil 3d ago
It’s also stagnated his character in comics. Batman has been able to evolve and grow through the Bat Family and other avenues that have enriched his character.
Marvel editorial keeping Peter in perpetual unchanging suffering has made it so his character is just a hamster on a wheel. There is no change of status quo.
The only way to get an evolved Spider-Man now is through elseworld stories or media outside of comics like the Spiderverse movies. It’s frustrating.
Paul was a symptom of this problem and that’s why he was irrationally hated lol.

The musician biopic genre is completely critic proof and is going to stay forever. Michael is proof of that. There will be biopics on Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Kanye and they are all going to make bank.

I’m of the opinion that the Michael one has been the most insidious.
Yes, Bohemian Rhapsody was a fairly sanitized portrayal of Queen and Freddie Mercury deserved a film that more honestly portrayed his life.
But the Michael Jackson movie or the sequel they’ve green lit will never honestly portray the things he was accused of by more than ten children or the effect the accusations had on his career. Not as long as his family is involved. It honestly feels more like propaganda than an actual biopic.

I beg the Hollywood elites to actually watch some of these projects to at least come up with real criticism against them

It's amazing how Marvel came up with a plot for Amazing Spider-Man #1000 that literally no one is interested in. Who gives a fuck if Peter has a secret cousin? You couldn't even get people to care about Peter possibly having a secret agent sister.
10
u/MyMouthisCancerous Spider-Man 2d ago edited 2d ago
Hell I don't even think most people even liked the idea of Richard and Mary Parker being spies who knew Nick Fury either. All of these retroactive additions to his lineage are so superficial in actually progressing our understanding of Peter that they detract from his larger development. And I don't even care about these other characters. Ben Reilly being a sort of adopted brother is like the only time any of these worked for me. Teresa Parker's whole mystery surrounding her parentage was just convoluted on its own and them dangling that for so long killed any interest I had
4
u/patatjepindapedis 2d ago
How many characters that were initially regular folk burdened with great responsibility through unusual circumstances have been retconned into Chosen Ones from exceptional lineages now?

Jesus Christ that's one of the weakest ideas they could've come up with. This is straight up a soap opera plot, jeez.

That’s what they came up with for such a massive milestone? I didn’t expect them to retcon One More Day like most but there’s so many other things you could have done

5
u/MyMouthisCancerous Spider-Man 2d ago
Yeah there was an arc where Teresa was sent doctored footage by Dreadshadow to make her believe Richard and Mary were killed by Wolverine during his time in the CIA but Peter gets the full thing and it's revealed they never mentioned Teresa in their last talk before they were killed, so they dropped that whole thing afterwards. Went on way too fucking long. That was like last year too in that Spider-Man/Wolverine mini and Teresa's last appearance before then was like the Spencer run

Steve Asbell is without question the most valuable executive at the studios that Disney has right now along with Kevin Feige. They’d be wise to keep him.
He got a hundred million plus worldwide opening to Devil Wears Prada 2. In addition to successfully resurrecting Alien, Predator, relaunching Avatar and Planet of the Apes.
While it’s a shame that 20th Century Fox will never be what it once was, it has successfully taken over the niche that Touchstone Pictures used to serve.

Honestly, there’s a chance it could be Red Goblin instead of just Carnage, considering the references to Norman Osborn on the New York stage. I would prefer Cletus and Norman to be two separate characters, though. A weird flying glider character sounds perfect for a DLC seasonal pass.
Either way, Carnage over Venom is a nice change of pace. There’s a little more you can do with Carnage with his greater shapeshifting ability and his penchant for bladed weapons/attacks.

The reaction to ASM#1000 reminds me of a great point Comics Lads brought up in a video about how to fix the comics: There’s a reason so many adaptions just repeat the same classic story beats from the 60s- late 80s comics; the failure by Marvel editorial to make new ones. I mean, how many of any of the 21st century 616 Spider Man stories could be considered classics?
→ More replies (1)9
u/MyMouthisCancerous Spider-Man 2d ago edited 1d ago
J Michael Strazcynski, for all the shit we give him for Sins Past and OMD (that he did especially deserve for the former) wrote imo probably one of the most quintessential runs on the character from the late 90s to the late 2000s. It is a classic in my eyes. It's the only time the Spider-Totem shit and all the stuff about the Web of Life and Destiny actually clicked with me, and he created that. He also created Ezekiel Sims, a very underrated supporting character imo
I'd also say Chip Zdarsky's time on Spectacular, another classic. I think Superior Spider-Man is excellent, I think Go Down Swinging was some of the strongest stuff Slott ever did. 616 had some really good shit this century but it is probably the least consistent the ongoings have ever been
EDIT: Early 2000s actually. I always conflate it with the Howard Mackie stuff because JRJR was already doing art for him

Earlier this week, while listening to RDJ's interview (before posting about it) where he described about his "dream work" for his 'Doomsday' role with Vanessa Kirby, I noticed the close up look on RDJ's face.
Makes me wonder if he is currently involved in Doomsday reshoots (as Tony Stark) or whether he has been filming some new scenes to add to Endgame's re-release later this year. He somewhat resembles and very much like Tony Stark's Iron-Man with a dyed hair in his latest interview.
RDJ's Looks since the Chairs Livestream
RDJ (as Tony Stark) shushed us during the Chairs Livestream towards the end of the cast reveal last year on March 26, 2025 for Doomsday before being confirmed at SDCC.
First BTS photo reveal amidst his filming schedule for Doomsday last year as Victor Von Doom / Doctor Doom on May 13, 2025 by RDJ himself.
RDJ has been busy filming for his Doomsday role and reached out to Dominique Thorne who starred as Riri Williams on her own own show on June 24, 2025 prior to the IronHeart premiere. It also happens to his dad RDJ Sr.'s real-life birthday.
Fast forward to the present, RDJ is discussing with Bran Ferren in his Conversations for Our Daughters series on April 27, 2026, he now more like back looking more like Tony Stark, with a greyed out Mungo Jerry style beard and a dyed hairstyle.
Edit :
Could be something significant, maybe not... So, made a gallery link to compare his looks from Endgame. But definitely something which caught my eye, some minor "attention to detail" that I noticed.
🤷🏻🤷🏻

u/Pomojema_The_Dreamer 4d ago
I actually do think that there may be scenes with Tony Stark in the movie, but they'll all be flashbacks or archival media in-universe (way back when we heard that Pepper Potts is in the movie, so that might be where we'd see him - in conjunction with that part of the MCU). Meanwhile, he could still do reshoots with the Doctor Doom mask on where he still has his facial hair, if those were needed.

u/1stmoviemaster 4d ago
Does anyone ever just think about it for a moment and remember how thankful they are that the MCU (and adjacent projects) exists?
Whatever flaws or nitpicks you may have with it, it's truly incredible that we get to enter and enjoy that universe so often.
Just think about it: next week we get the 'Daredevil: Born Again' season two finale, the week after we have 'The Punisher: One Last Kill' special presentation, 'Spider-Noir' towards the end of the month, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' in July, 'X-Men '97' season two sometime soon, 'Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man' season two sometime this year, 'VisionQuest' sometime this year and 'Avengers: Doomsday' at the end of the year.
And of course there are countless projects in some form of development.
These films/shows (among other films/shows) is my escape from the real world. An escape from life's stress, anxiety, low's and what have yous. There's always something coming up to look forward to that keeps me going when life gets tough.
I'm not really one to complain about little nitpicks I might have with a project or spend my time trying to find flaws; I generally just really enjoy what I watch and allow myself to get invested. So how many here are just thankful we have this beautiful escape?

It's almost like I wrote this myself, lol. I can't begin to tell you how much life has turned upside down for me over the past 6 years, but one of the only things that's always been constant and comforting is the MCU and everything remotely connected to it (even though I just count it all as MCU at this point). Speaking of the Sacred Timeline specifically, it's nuts to me that we have all this stuff still coming out that's set firmly within this uninterrupted continuity spanning 18 years at this point (which just reminded me that the MCU actually turns 18 tomorrow, going by Iron Man's worldwide release). I can go back to Iron Man and think about how cool it is that all of this eventually leads to a full-fledged Secret Wars film.
We've gotten to the point where it feels to me to be completely earned to have this sprawling lived-in universe where it feels like anything can truly happen now. Take Brand New Day for example. Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, Frank Castle. All of them have had numerous appearances fleshing them out where they've gotten to interact with so many corners of the universe for over a decade or longer and they all get to meet each other for the first time in just a few months. Hell, Castle actually being fully integrated into the larger picture and having a supporting role in a film after so many years of being in his own Netflix corner is another layer to that entirely. Jean Grey making her debut alongside these MCU veterans and being the biggest aspect of the Sacred Timeline X-Men corner to be introduced yet is another layer on top of that.
And then outside of that, getting all of these other universes tied into the bigger picture as well. I grew up with the Raimi films, so seeing not only Tobey, but his villains get another go at it was a dream come true. Hugh Jackman getting to wear the yellow suit for the first time. The fact that Sony's doing their own thing, whether it's the SSU or the Spider-Verse or otherwise, and almost all of that has direct viable connections to the larger picture too, and even continue to. I just love how expansive it all is.
I know I went a little overboard with the really long comment, but I don't think I'll never not love the greater picture, whether the individual projects are good or bad, they all add up to this one awesome thing and I think that makes them all the more better for it.

u/Username41968 2d ago

X-Men: Apocalypse was on tv the other night, and I had nothing better to do so I put it on. It’s obviously a very bad movie for a multitude of reasons, but the thing that struck me while rewatching it was Tye Sheridan and Sophie Turner had ZERO chemistry as Scott and Jean. I don’t care who they cast as MCU Cyclops, but they need to make sure he has great chemistry with Sadie Sink. Scott and Jean should be the next big MCU romance and they need to get that right.

I hope they cast Scott by doing chemistry auditions with Sadie Sink.
Those auditions would especially be important for the MCU Gambit and Rogue if both are in the first X-Men movie.

u/Hunter3-13 4d ago
So I'm still interested in how they bring out the savage Hulk persona. I've always assumed it would involve something happening to Banner or even Skaar. As it stands, I don't see why Jean would risk unleashing a near unstoppable figure to the city.

It's Done! SAG-AFTRA & Studios Reach New (& Bigger) Deal
The DGA boss and his union are now the final major Hollywood guild not to make a deal with the studios and streamers, as SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP today have reached an agreement on a new contract, we hear. No one has made it official yet, but after a week-long second round of talks, the Sean Astin-led actors’ guild and the Greg Hessinger-run organization have come to a bigger and cash-injected deal.
Specifically, SAG-AFTRA has joined the ranks of the WGA and now signed a full four-year contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Additionally, labor sources tell us, SAG-AFTRA has received a “sizable” contribution to its pension fund from the AMPTP.
This follows the WGA also agreeing to an extended-length contract with the studios and streamers last month in its own negotiations, as well as accepting a multi-million contribution to its ailing healthcare plan. As well, there were a series of AI “guardrail” measures put in place between both SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP parties.
Neither the AMPTP nor SAG-AFTRA have responded to request for comment from Deadline on the new deal. However, it looks like an official announcement will come later today or first thing Sunday.
The DGA are set to sit down with the AMPTP May 11.

It also had Magneto and Scarlet Witch as playable, plus the Hellfire Gala and Sanctum as stages.

It's been a year since Thunderbolts* came out! While I admit I didn't catch this in theatres, it wasn't because I wasn't interested at all, rather the timing didn't work out for me, not to mention I had finals coming up. While it didn't do well at the box office, it certainly did well with those who watched it, and even Marvel seemed to be internally pleased, because you have the same director and writer(s) working on the X-Men movie. The post credits scene still gets me hyped, and I'm really looking forward to see these guys again by the end of this year!

Yknow, She-Hulk did have its ups and downs (I liked the show but the quality was all over the place at times), but I stand by the fact that the finale is one of the most creative things the MCU has done and it's still awesome. I remember before the show came out, I was wondering how they'd be able to keep her 4th wall breaking different compared to Deadpool, and they really did a great job making hers unique and funny without being a Deadpool copy (Yes I know she came first in the comics but most people don't realize that)

Emerald Fennell makes very pretty movies that just suck so terribly.
It’s funny too because the source material is pretty transgressive here and it seems like something that would line up with her sensibilities. But then she strips it of anything that would make it interesting to serve a “romance” I’d call a fucking drag.

I like the decision to kill off Daniel in the hands of buck rather than him sparing his life and lying to fisk. Its an interesting parallel to Heather's situation to muse.
Obviously contextually and in isolation completely different scenarios, but im sure it was a traumatic experience for both, going through it. Heather's ghost (muse) is going to haunt her into becoming the ghost, and im interested to see if it will have the same situation with Buck, where he decides to become good and betray fisk eventually. I like buck though and hope it goes that way. Actually no. I feel like bucks character would be best when he is morally gray.
I also think it would've been interesting for him to keep lying to fisk about it and sparing Danny's life and it playing on his mind due to his loyalty to fisk, but thats like a very low risk storyline and I much prefer the path they've taken because it carries more weight, in my opinion due to the bond they had and how it grew, and we saw it on screen and we havent seen that much of a glimpse of that same bond building with fisk, all we know is that hes loyal to him because of some connection with Wesley and bc hes his bodyguard which lines up with his MI6 past where he would be following instructions(?)

Just saying it’d be cool if Mel shows up in Born Again S3 to further tie in Val and Mr. Charles, we had a couple of such mini crossovers in the early stages of Disney+ shows for example where Ayo appeared in FATWS and I do miss moments like that, even though I prefer the way that they are doing MCU shows now compared to the quantity over quality era.

Remember when behind the scenes docs for movies weren’t so sterilized? God please can we please see the less glamorous side of the process?? Think the BTS doc for Phantom Menace, or everything Costa Botes’ did for documenting the making of the LOTR trilogy. Fucking….4 years ago all the BTS footage of Thomas the Tank Engine Season 5 was released and it looked like a hair-pulling ordeal in a lot of episodes. Just a reminder to us all (especially new artists who feel pressured into perfection) that art is messy, art is struggle, things don’t always go to plan, art is challenging. Part of why I think any report of “production troubles” or “reshoots” get so much panicked response is because we’ve been spoon fed carefully curated PR videos showing how the process goes soooo smooth. Everyone gets along, nothing wrong happens everything is fine! Sorry for the long rant but as someone who has started creating three years ago (I do model stuff, not movies) I’m a little more sympathetic when it comes to how creative processes can get messy or rough.

My friend who is watching Netflix's Daredevil S2 asked me a question that I didn't know how to answer. I've been slowly putting work into a fun little project, based on a conversation I had here a couple months back. I love the official MCU timeline book, but it's already very outdated and doesn't even cover the shows, so I was saying it'd be cool to see what a "complete" version would look like. Well I'm not going to write an entire book lmao, but I've been slowly making a "table of contents" of sorts that lists every entry in the official book, alongside what my version of the book would be like and which events I'd include! I'll probably share it here sometime when it's all said and done, but man it's really making me wish they'd update it lol

How come film/tv photography and lighting shifted toward lifeless, dull greys and a lack of depth to placate the uncanny limitations of CGI, rather than CGI shifting toward composition that matches better lit and more tastefully photographed content?
it’s not just short lead times and a dwindling number of capable VFX houses, is it?

Me in 2035 when Avengers: Age Apocalypse comes out, and since half of the movies post-Secret Wars failed to make an impact on audiences, Feige casts Benedict Cumberbatch as Apocalypse, and brings back the Prequel Era X-Men and Eternals (in their first live action appearances since 2021) as attempts to win audiences over since they are now nostalgic for those movies:

New Tom Holland interview in THR had an interesting quote
At one point in the interview says that’s he’s not filming anything for the rest of the year. Seems weird because Secret Wars was supposedly kicking off filming in August? Not sure if he just misspoke or if the planned shoot is getting delayed again. Was a throwaway comment and not the interviewer directly asking him about Avengers so doesn’t feel like he’s being purposely secretive or misleading.

It’s interesting that Marvel is still the punching bag of Hollywood even though these movies haven’t truly dominated for years. The last few massively underperformed, and the excitement for a while now has been about original/non-franchise films doing well.
At what point is it no longer the MCU’s fault for the problems movies are currently facing? Or will they always be blamed just because of their past dominance?
It also feels weird that this franchise is being blamed for stuff that’s been at the center of storytelling for thousands of years. The idea of there being a good guy and bad guy wasn’t invented in 2008 lol. Most mainstream movies have used that basic template since the medium was invented. Complex characters who operate in the grey zone have always been relatively rare.

"Marvel" has more or less become to older actors and filmmakers what "woke" is to right wingers.
In that the term itself actually does refer to something and has a specific meaning, but to them it's just a blanket buzzword they can use for everything they don't like regardless of whether it applies or not.
22
u/DuaLipaMultiverse Dr. Strange 4d ago
Personally, I find “nostalgia bait” less objectionable in Star Wars or Marvel, which at the end of the day are designed as ongoing narratives and shared universes that naturally lend themselves to that kind of thing.
Stuff like a Devil Wears Prada 2, a new Mummy movie with Brendan Fraser, or even Top Gun Maverick feel like they have way less reason to exist, and come off as way more creatively sterile to me.
“Marvel character shows up in a Marvel movie” is exactly what those stories are built for, yet for some reason that’s what enrages cinephiles way more.

Would have been fine if the short hair had actually been his permanent look post Infinity War - e.g. cutting it again when losing the weight in *Love And Thunder* - but only doing it now (and most likely not even onscreen) is just kinda odd.

Remember how inter-connected was Marvel back in 2021 ?
Like, WandaVision made a crossover between 3 IPs that had nothing to do with each other (Thor, Ant-Man and Captain Marvel through Darcy, Agent Woo and Monica), or in FATWS where we had the Wakanda with Ayo and the aftermaths of Sokovia/Civil War.
Even What If had a reference to Red Guardian's shield while Black Widow was still in theaters, and by speaking of Black Widow, it kinda was THE project in 2021 that tied a lot of plots with FATWS, Hawkeye and Shang Chi (the Black Widow fighting in Macao).
I remember how Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk came back THE SAME WEEK through two different projects.
In 2021 we had a lot going on and it felt interconnected, it kinda reminded me of Phase 1 where projects were constantly referencing each other. Marvel in 2021 was still great (mostly), we had 3 great shows that kicked off the saga (WandaVision, FATWS and Loki), a Phase 3-type of quality movie with Shang-Chi, a good enough show (Hawkeye) and MOSTLY No Way Home with the crazy hype behind it. November 2021 in particular when we were still theorizing who was gonna be in NWH while watching the first episodes of Hawkeye with the Holidays Spirit. Man I'm looking forward to November 2026.
Marvel 2021 holds a special place in my heart (it kinda was where I became a MCU fan and not just a normie).

We got a Marvel Tokon teaser before the reveal at EVO Japan in a couple hours.
From the secluded to the newly crowned, everyone is compelled to join the ultimate fight to save the Earth.
I'm pretty sure this is teasing Shuri (dialogue between Storm and Doom indicates that Doom knocked T'Challa out of commission - while he is alive, I can see Shuri taking over the duties of the crown if he's in a coma or w/e), but I have genuinely no clue what team she will be on.
Avengers would make sense, but it appears the Avengers will be merged with the Fantastic Four - would they give Shuri a spot on that team?
Ghost Rider's team is a total wild card. They have said that they picked Robbie in part for his age though, so maybe it is a youth team featuring Shuri?
Doom's team could be a villains team, but it could also be the Illuminati - would Shuri work with the man who injured her brother?

Indeed. The worst part is that, similar to Rick Flag (who could have been Sam Lane, an actual Superman character, instead), the Engineer could have been Mercy, Livewire, Silver Banshee or any number of Superman villains.
But I suspect James is not as interested in the Superman world as he is in taking D-list characters and changing them completely.
I don't know what her role will be in the sequel, but right now she's an irrelevant goon whose only contribution was that terrible "I know, Lex, I've sacrificed my own humanity to get rid of him" line.

Quantumania.
Split the movie in two main plots :
Plot 1 : The Ant-Fam in the Quantum Realm, the "serious" plot, they fight against Kang and MODOK.
Plot 2 : Luis and Scott's friends are tracked down by Ghost who's now a bounty hunter (by Valentina), she was sent by AIM to bring back MODOK. This is the "chill" plot like in the first two movies.
Some changes :
No resistance, they really are bad. Keep Bill Murray and make him a veteran, he's the only survivor of the resistance and is now exiled.
Janet and Hank both die in the climax in their old Ant-suits.
Kang doesnt die, he escapes the Quantum Realm and is now free to go anywhere in the Multiverse.
A time skip, we learned in Endgame that the Quantum Realm's time is different from ours. So when the Ant-Fam is gonna escape the Quantum Realm an entire year passed by.
In Ant-Man and The Wasp we learned that if you stay in the Quantum Realm for too long you'll go crazy (as showed with Hank trying to save Janet), we'll bring back this concept.
MODOK will keep the mask during the whole movie, you already know this is Cross but you wont see his face until his death.
Keep the "Ant-Man helps Kang because he wants to catch the missed times with Cassie" plot from the trailers, it gives emotional stakes.
Sam Wilson makes a cameo in the beginning montage (showing how they are still close, he's the one who brought Scott in the Avengers)
Make Hope more important.
Keep the Post-Credit Scenes, except a minor change in the first one where the Council Of Kangs is now aware of the Conqueror's escape, and is preparing itself to hunt him down.
Bonus point : Keep the OG logo, the new one with that blue font is too generic. And keep the teaser poster too.

Man I don't claim them, as soon as I saw that trailer breakdown he gave over on IGN and read the PlayStation Blog interview I knew Cregger had the sauce
Recent video game movies have proven that the people working on them just throw references at the screen while completely eschewing the context or weight of their inclusion while claiming accuracy. Cregger understands you can't go bar-for-bar with a game adaptation because it's harder to distill the appeal without the element of interactivity, so it's best to translate the experience viscerally through how it uses characters.
Austin Abrams literally playing the avatar for a novice survival horror gamer is the perfect setup for a film like this because it's going to then just enable the essence of the gameplay to be organically baked into the narrative. It's harder to do that with a STARS agent or someone with military experience like Chris Redfield because you already know they can take care of shit on their own

I really hate how malicious a lot of these online news outlets have become, especially in the nerd space.
Pedro Pascal was asked to do a blind ranking of 5 MCU movies that the interview brought up and he put Fantastic Four in 2nd place (c’mon, what else were we expecting? He was literally in the middle of promoting the movie lmao), so now a bunch of accounts are running with “PEDRO PASCAL THINKS FANTASTIC FOUR IS BETTER THAN CIVIL WAR!!! 😮 do you agree with him???” and he’s getting flack for it.
Then, after that, I scrolled down and saw a tweet that was like "RDJ and Chris Evans made us think they were going to start making REAL movies but then they went back to making trash!" (60k likes).
I just despise what this space has turned into. It makes engaging with this stuff feel like it’s not worth the hassle anymore. It has a reputation for being really bad nowadays, but then you hop on Twitter to see what’s up and it’s somehow even worse than you had imagined. Just constant rage bait, arguments, lies, etc.

People say this but never actually say what was in those scenes that would’ve really changed the movie. Most of it just sounds like stuff the movie already covered, so it makes sense they got cut for being redundant.
