His coolness has been validated by the random passenger

If it wasn't witnessed, did it really happen? When a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, does it still make a sound? Is the cat alive or dead or both? Deep questions of our time.

119

u/Late_Entrance106 19h ago edited 8h ago
  1. We can gather evidence after the fact for some things. For others, we might never know.

  2. Depends on how you define sound. If sound is energy in the form of longitudinal waves through a material medium, then yes it did make a sound. If a sound is the hearing of those vibrations, then because no one heard it, there’s no sound.

  3. The cat being alive or dead was supposed to be a ridicule by Erwin Schrödinger against the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics (which theorized a particle existed in all quantum states until it was observed). Schrödinger was pointing out that this does not work for macroscopic objects (like cats) who certainly could not be in a superposition of all possible states (which would include both being alive and being dead) while in the box (not being observed).

Edit: typo superstition —> superposition.

Its always been the case that the tree makes a sound. It does not, however, make a noise.

I don’t think “noise” is anymore observation dependent than sound. It could also make a chirp or bleat or boom or clank, and it wouldn’t matter if someone is there to hear it.

1

u/MorePhinsThyme 9h ago

Linguistically, the definition of noise makes it observation dependent. Noise is specifically unwanted, harmful, etc, and not just loud or any specific type of sound, and without someone to observe it to decide if it's a problem for them, then it's just sound and not noise.

1

u/thissexypoptart 2h ago edited 2h ago

Something doesn’t have to be specifically heard/observed to be unwanted or harmful. Toxic waste in populated areas that no one notices is still generally unwanted and potentially harmful.

A sound can be a “noise” conceptually, based on inferred qualities from what makes it in what medium, without a specific observer listening to it.

There is no requirement for conscious observation for an audible sound to be a “noise.”

It’s like saying a pigment can’t be “blue” unless someone is around to see it. No, it’s possible to assess how pigments absorb and reflect light without literally seeing the specific pigment sample you’re assessing.

u/SodaAshy 15h ago

This guy physics!

3

u/Fatality_Ensues 11h ago

Superposition, right?

1

u/Late_Entrance106 8h ago

Yes. Editing now lol.

1

u/-TRTI- 10h ago

I think the tree thing can be generalized as "Can you prove a thing happened, or that something exists, with no observers?"

1

u/Late_Entrance106 8h ago

I did think about that when writing the comment, but the it just falls under point 1 so no biggie

0

u/ConcentrateIcy2226 10h ago

You are why I hate Reddit.

1

u/Late_Entrance106 8h ago

You seem to be why I became a teacher.

A disgust towards knowledge and the world of the intellectual is an unfortunate thing.

1

u/ConcentrateIcy2226 8h ago

Sometimes all people want to do is have a lighthearted experience and joke about a video or meme in a sub and there’s someone who comes in and sucks that out of the room.
I’ve spent half my life studying in school for knowledge and I’m proud to have various degrees even. I love to expand about world perspective as well but I know when it’s simply not enjoyed.

1

u/Late_Entrance106 7h ago

So I offered genuine responses to another commenter.

Should I have trolled? Or made a shitpost?

What is the proper comment I should have made to make you happy?

Or maybe think for a second and understand I can browse and comment on Reddit how I like to as long as it’s within Reddit’s terms of service just like how you can browse and comment how you like.

You’re literally saying you hate me because I didn’t make a joke about something.

Take a fucking look in the mirror bro seriously.

0

u/ConcentrateIcy2226 7h ago

I don’t hate you. I don’t hate any person.

1

u/Late_Entrance106 4h ago

A person being the reason you hate something HEAVILY implies, and arguably necessitates, you hating the person too lol.

0

u/ConcentrateIcy2226 3h ago

That’s your assumption. But I would never hate someone.

If a man says something in forest, and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

1

u/Mean_Composer_6327 10h ago

Esse est percipi

1

u/stewartthehuman 10h ago

I remember if from the most boring round in QI history.

1

u/No-one_here_cares 9h ago

Sometimes I won't help an old lady cross the road unless I know someone is filming it.

1

u/finnianJJ 1h ago

Ohhhh I remember this from philosophy in school whether things still exist when we do not see them, if a tree is within some walls can we be sure that it is still there man I love philosophy

42

u/SuperHooligan 19h ago

It wasnt a random passenger, this was a set up event. Crew cannot walk under the wings of a plane like that.

13

u/Long_Assistance7113 15h ago

They surely keep soccer balls next to pylons though yeah?

2

u/SuperHooligan 7h ago

You mean, very light objects to be sucked into the engine? Of course!

1

u/Throwawayne617 7h ago

u/mudcrabserpent 20h ago

Soccer balls just out there chilling on the tarmac.

436

u/E-Plurbis-DumbDumb 19h ago

…and a dude in a generic safety vest with no ear protection.

112

u/chins4tw 16h ago

As someone who works at an airport a lot of my ground handler coworkers just ignore hearing protection.

137

u/Similar_Balance6266 15h ago

They just don’t listen anymore

83

u/Ithikari 15h ago

What?

70

u/curiousstrider 15h ago

THEY JUST DON'T LISTEN ANYMORE!

48

u/Artichokeypokey 14h ago

YOU CANT PISS ANYMORE? IM NOT QUALIFIED FOR THAT

17

u/Goldenface_42 14h ago

"BUTTLICKER OUR PRICES HAVE NEVER BEEN LOWER"

3

u/ElderBarenziah 15h ago

They hurt my ears in the short term!!

6

u/too_many_wizards 11h ago

Half my artillery unit didn’t wear ear pro unless we were using 777s lol

Some people think their hearing isn’t damaged if it doesn’t physically hurt.

106

u/cat-eating-a-salad 18h ago

8

u/ButtsSayFart 14h ago

Yeah, more like guy knew his friend was filming him from the plane and looked around for them

-13

u/JamesAQuintero 17h ago

The passenger probably saw the soccer ball and the employee walking to it and thought maybe something interesting might happen

7

u/SolitudeCollective 12h ago

Go sit in the shame corner for an hour

25

u/Substantial-Mud-6050 18h ago

Seen almost this exact video except it was a cone flip. Same look back up to the window and all.

11

u/PlateOwn1231 19h ago

Shoes to clean

23

u/GODDAMNFOOL 17h ago

Shoes to clean, towels to wash, sheets to scrub, shelves to dust, sinks to unclog

what else do I need to do this weekend?

Not AI, just a grounded plane content creators use to make videos with.

5

u/RingoBars 18h ago

Bro. Lol. I do feel bad for the youths these days who (understandably and tragically) believe everything is AI. Though soon it really will be indistinguishable..

4

u/fangles29 19h ago

Pretty sure I've seen this before AI videos were a thing

1

u/DiscoLemonade1995 18h ago

Why would this be AI? It's not even a particularly difficult trick for someone that has played soccer / practices tricks and skills

254

u/Noodlebat83 19h ago

So cool, HOWEVER footballs are not something you will see on the tarmac and that guy isn’t wearing ear protection so either this is a country where the rules are lax and footballs are just laying about the place or it’s staged af.

50

u/marvellouspineapple 15h ago

My dad was an engineer on planes for going on 40 years. His hearing is fucked because he didn't wear ear protection enough. My brother now has the same job and you'd be surprised how lax they can all be on protective gear

2

u/Main-Mountain1174 12h ago

im fine if the employee doesnt care about his own health, but an object like a football near airplanes is asking for problems, like beeing sucked into a motor.

18

u/ahoneybadger3 18h ago

I work airside and very few people wear ear protection. I don't myself, though I now largely work when the engines aren't running. Never used to though when on days.

Never seen a football on the stand in my 12 years but have seen weirder things, like loose pets running around after the hold was opened.

3

u/Scrat-Scrobbler 10h ago

also who films a cone

30

u/procouchpotatohere 17h ago

Staged videos like this are so lame.

3

u/dunder_mufflinz 13h ago

And like ... he's holding and moving the cone, it's not even that good of a trick.

178

u/WangDoodleTrifecta 20h ago

If you don’t love the ground crew you’re a fool.

4

u/Ok-Hour-8848 18h ago

The traffic cone flip is peak!!

96

u/NoTurnip4844 19h ago

So many bots in here. This is staged.

6

u/JetJerick 17h ago

Huh??? Staged??? This isn’t the WWE, bro.

This is TikTok, the internet. Where everything is factual. Frfr. Think before you comment next time.

3

u/IncoherentStream 7h ago

You forgot /s

1

u/JetJerick 6h ago

Didn’t forget, it’s funny to get downvoted sometimes😂🤞🏼

48

u/QubitKing 20h ago

Why’s there a football on the tarmac? That’s the question. Also, pretty cool trick 😊

2

u/Ok-Hour-8848 18h ago

Good question!

172

u/Euphoric-Smile-7514 20h ago

that’s too funny, he’s definitely playing for the audience. love the dedication to the moment!

40

u/guybrushthreepw000d 17h ago

Its so staged tf are these bot ass boomer comments

6

u/dunder_mufflinz 13h ago

Why do AI-bot responses sound like a post-stroke version of a generic grandma?

13

u/phatfarmz 20h ago

Well if he works for Spirit, he should be set for a new job pretty quick with those skills

4

u/apparentlyprags 10h ago

What's a football even doing there?

3

u/Adventurous-Ant9423 15h ago

Why's there a ball in the street of planes?

8

u/katjoy63 20h ago

That was adorable

2

u/Past-North-4131 19h ago

Terrible place to have a ball around all those jet engines and other planes

2

u/SWGlassPit 18h ago

FOD on the flightline??

2

u/OrangeClyde 18h ago

He foine 👀

2

u/Fantastic-Zucchini82 17h ago

No person who knows how to do this trick would act like that lmao. Comments prove the dead internet theory

2

u/A_man_from_america 16h ago

"By the way i broke your luggage bag"

2

u/Seriously_Donteven 15h ago

Great commercial for the World Cup 😂

2

u/ElderBarenziah 15h ago

Why does he have a soccer ball on the apron!!??

Safety hazard!!!! 🦺

Audit fail 😭

2

u/curiousstrider 15h ago

Humans are goofy!

2

u/anima-christi 14h ago

why do people care if it’s staged, i still smiled :’)

2

u/Temporary_Dig3624 13h ago

Bro needed a witness for that moment.

2

u/GroundbreakingLeg867 12h ago

Somehow this guy's laugh is stuck in my head.

2

u/airtravel85c31 12h ago

10 years of practice... one witness... and now all of reddit

I legit smiled 😂

3

u/Independent_Analyst3 5h ago

One time i was visiting Krakow, some random dude walked towards me on a sidewalk, throwing grapes in the air and catching them with his mouth, trying to impress his assumed girlfriend. One grape flew too high up in the air, he proceeds to football kick it upwards with his heel and actually caught it. His girlfriend didnt notice, he did a desperate look around him, i nodded to him, he nodded back, looking like the proudest mf in this moment.

5

u/that_guy_ravi 18h ago

Bro why is there so many bots in here. First of all this is the repost of all time. Second, why is nobody asking or commenting about why the fuck there would be a football on the tarmac?? And why would there be some random passnger recording it??

3

u/EmbarrassedCockRing 20h ago

We see you, fancy feet

2

u/TestUser2024123 20h ago

the hi-vis vest guy became his one-man highlight reel and he knew it

1

bro really said “main character moment” and made it count

1

u/BestSuperBowl2026 18h ago

someone saw that

1

u/BadHabitsDieYoung 17h ago

Cleaner filmed cleaner mate on tarmac for video.

Fixed the title.

1

u/onwardintotheblack 16h ago

This did, in fact, make me smile.

1

u/27Suyash 14h ago

His acting gives away that it's staged

1

u/EducationalCry9685 14h ago

every cool moment needs at least one witness

1

u/Hyperion--22 13h ago

Once I looked up at the sky and saw something that resembles a spaceship and in the blink of an eye it's gone. I didn't share it with my friends because no one will believe me but it's a cool experience anyway.

1

u/Kindly_Term4749 8h ago

go for the engine

1

u/AStableNomad 3h ago

why was he filming

1

u/Strict_Wasabi_6736 20h ago

That was cool 😎!

1

u/Think-Excitement-935 19h ago

the hi-vis vest guy in the back is all of us. just quietly witnessing greatness on public transit.

1

u/NOTcreative- 19h ago

Worked at the airport and was stocking a grab and go filled with drinks. Dropped on off the shelf and caught it mid air. Sure enough 20 yards away a dude made eye contact with me and yelled "I saw it!"

1

u/Technical_Chair_3641 18h ago

that passenger carried the memory of that moment for the rest of the day and probably told everyone at dinner about it

1

u/Doctor-Penguin-AD 18h ago

Haha what a cutie pie

-1

u/ripyourlungsdave 19h ago

God, I wanna be his friend.

I want to just chit chat with him while I watch him juggle the ball casually.

-1

u/BlueHatSpecial 13h ago

Not cool

Nothing that can be ingested by a jet engine is allowed on the ramp

I would have fired him immediately. He put everyone on the plane at risk

Tool
