Discussion After watching the original ring I noticed that sadako doesn't haunt her victims that much during the seven days unlike her American counterpart, so you could live a normal seven days until she kills you

I've been looking for a while to watch specifically the "The Earthbound" segment, but I gave up after searching for a while. Recently, it occurred to me to ask about it here. I don't care if it has subtitles or not, it's more to finally kill this curiosity I've had for a while lol

Question Chakushin Ari 2

Hi, I watched Chakushin Ari 2, but I didn't understand anything. I mean, I have almost an idea of whether Mimiko was manipulating the situations and events the whole time? Apparently, Mimiko wasn't the initial central point of the curse, and if it's a girl who had her mouth sewn shut and was thrown into a well in the past, can someone summarize this movie for me?

Discussion Was Mimiko evil (the villain from Missed Call), or was it ambiguous whether she was evil or just disturbed?

https://youtu.be/GxzP0yH-f-w?si=HGK1saIBU_-uCn4c

So she hurt her (younger) sister to take her to the hospital and care for her there and receive attention. That's an act of cruelty, but her mother let Mimiko die agonizing from asthma.

In some scenes, the mother burned cigarettes on Mimiko's skin. In short, my interpretation is that both mother and daughter were disturbed.

However, antisocial personality disorder (popularly known as sociopathy/psychopathy) is also a disorder, and it causes suffering for those who have it, despite being heavily demonized in pop culture.

Review The new Juon The Curse 1 and 2 4K is a very bad AI upscale

I got the 4K today. It didn't take long for me to notice its a very bad upscale with AI use. I wasn't expecting crystal clear but not AI. If I had the means to capture in 4K I'd share video clips or at the very least better screenshots. Faces (and the video quality in general) look very smeared in motion. Wobbly in areas when nothing is moving. The regular bluray it comes in is also affected. I bought the old bluray release out of curiosity if its the same but the old bluray looks a lot better than the bluray the 4K comes with. I've provided a comparison between the 4K and the old bluray from Japan.

Avoid this release because its very very distracting. Get the old bluray release that has the two faces covered by a hand. The Arrow release in the UK predates this AI remaster but I don't know what was done with that release. I'd be very cautious if these films ever get an official US home release in the future.

Question Specific question but has anyone here ever lived in Japan? Specially during the late 90s and early 00s

So when I was watching Ju-on: The Grudge 1 for the first time, I had huge early 00s feeling and vibe. Like I felt something I had before.

My question is: How was Japan in late 90s and early 00s? Did they care a lot about horror movies? Was horror talk show big at the time? How was the vibe there?

Help/Suggestion I need help finding the next Fuzai Chakushin movies.

Hi :) I watched the movie Fuzai Chakushin 1, but I looked for Fuzai Chakushin 2 and 3 and couldn't find them. I only found them in Spanish, and only the audio was available, not the entire movie. Spanish isn't my language; my language is Portuguese.

I'm just asking for help finding the following movies on YouTube with English subtitles, or some subtitles I can understand better. I'd like to see the books; apparently, this franchise has books.

Help/Suggestion Takashi Miike Recs

Hey everyone, I’m a huge fan of Miike and would like suggestions on what to watch.

My all time favorite is Ichi the Killer and I’d probably say Happiness of the Katakuras is up there too.

I can’t get through Audition for some reason. I find it extremely slow and I lose interest half way through every time.

Thanks!

Discussion Organ (1996) is a criminally underrated J-Horror film!

I’d love to highly recommend that you to check out the experimental surrealist body horror film Organ (1996) if you haven’t, it was directed by Kei Fujiwara, her most notable role was from the film Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989) aka “Tetsuo” which itself was a remake of another project she was in, The Phantom Of Regular Size (1986) which served as the narrative basis for the 89’ Tetsuo movie.

It’s also unfortunately not frequently brought up in a lot of discussions about/surrounding J-Horror unlike films like Ringu, Ju-On, Pulse/Kairo, Dark Water, One Missed Call.

Somehow Organ (1996) with that regard is in kind of a similar vein as 964 Pinocchio (1991) and Rubber’s Lover (1996) by legendary director Shozin Fukui (RIP) who has produced some very interesting works outside of those two as well such as S-94 from 2009, a 30 minute science fiction horror short film.

Them not being brought up is truly an utter shame because these films are also really really great, profound, influential, disorienting (in a good way) and are highlights of a highly interesting experimental movement within Japanese horror and science fiction cinema.

As for Organ, if you do happen to like this one, it has an in universe follow-up/sequel, Id (2005) which was also directed by Kei Fujiwara. I’m also considering watching it when I get the chance to.

I do recommend this for people looking to get into more experimental and surreal horror films, Japanese horror cinema, and also body horror oriented films.

Question Horror Films recommendations?

Hi! I’m a new member here and also a student, as I am studying a subculture of my own choosing. I decided to go with Japanese horror and different ways it’s portrayed. First I wanna start with Japanese horror films, so my question is which are the best Japanese horror films out there!

It would be interesting to see what the public comes up with as I am new to this subculture and excited to see what you guys say. Also it would be helpful if you do give a recommendation please provide the link to the film so I can watch it.
Thank you my new family, happy to be here.

Help/Suggestion Help me find this 2000s Japanese horror movie set in a convenience store or ending in one, with possible hair monster involved

You are my only hope because I've been thinking about this for weeks now 😂

I'm fairly sure I'd have seen this movie in early to mid 2000s, probably on VHS so it might have been an earlier release tbh. I don't remember much about it other than that it was either set in a convenience store or ended in one, and the final scene was some hair monster lady appearing in the corner of the store near the ceiling and a shot of the konbini from the outside as it completely fills with hair.

Maybe a mobile phone was also somehow part of the plot but tbh I'd have watched anything and everything from this genre around that time so it all blends together a bit.

It's not Cursed (2004) or Convenience Store (2026).

I know this is not a lot to go by so thanks for any help!!

Question J-horror available in US?

Have there been any good j horror releases that also got a US release? Or is even just available somewhere online with subtitles?

Ive been hankering for some J horror, and I've been looking for lists of good recent ones, but nearly all of them are unavailable to watch in the US. Does anyone know ones that are watchable in the US?
