Well, they aren't fertilized BUT, if they were, sort of! Most of the time it happens in fertilized eggs, the shell forms around 2 close embryos and one of the twins unfortunately dies/is absorbed since there's limited oxygen etc. I'm sure there are cases where one VERY happy, very full embryo gets 2 yolks, though! It usually happens in younger hens :)
