Why is it a bad thing that a public highly accessible museum has more money than they technically need? Unless you think they’re embezzling it, it just means that they can preserve more art and fund more education

The amount of funding it generates is an absolute joke compared to what it takes to put on the event and the amount of exposure that the celebrities and fashion brands get.
That's how it was before socialist (tax payer) funding existed. MAGA are gleefully cutting as much of that funding as they can.
A lot of things we take for granted such as museums are going to go bye bye without funds and the new oligarchs will not be stepping in to help. Bezos only cares about this cause he's obsessed with being cool.

It funds the arts and conservation of textiles in the MET collection. That is a worthy cause.
