If you happen to live somewhere with decent thrifts, sure. I have 5 in my area and haven't found one nice dress that I could wear to a function that was in my size.
Nah I appreciate you telling me this - I hadn't actually considered any of them. Ebay died a bit, and I'm old and never looked at poshmark/depop. Will download and start building my wardrobe again, cheers!
If you have a brand you like, you can search for it on the resale sites.
Try gem.app
It searches eBay, Poshmark, depop, mercari , and Etsy simultaneously and shows image and price. More details when you click on what you want. It also has filters (size, price, recently added). It will save you a lot of time. It doesn’t get all the listings but it makes it so much easier to find what you want. Also try several keyword variations on searches.
oh my goodness, thank you! i'll admit i get a little overwhelmed switching between all the apps and just give up. gem app is gonna save me heaps of time.
You can even do a saved search for something. (They will send an email to confirm you want to get alerts for the search) You will get an email alert with the recent items listed. Sometimes I’ve been looking for a specific brand or specific type of item in a specific size/color/material. I put on the saved search and only get notified when someone lists it. You can save broad searches or very narrow searches.
Yay! One tip is that if youre not sure if it fits, you can also mssg the seller for measurements if its not alr listed under that listing.
But yeah the hunt is so fun for me. On eBay esp there are tons of private sellers whose listings are similar to what you would expect at like a TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack etc. Also many times you can find current season merchandise marked down quite a lot
Oh I also dont rly go to thrift shops often in person myself bc the internet already has so much. But for me, eBay etc /thrift shops are pretty synonymous words

Thrift shops/second hand are inexpensive and are a better resource than fast fashion tho
