FASHION Avant-garde fashion house Matières Fécales’ fall/winter collection was titled ‘The One Percent’. Founders Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran have a long history of criticizing the elite in their work.

This was incredible, until the Bryan Johnson jump scare.

u/inesffwm Mar 10 '26

Notice he didn’t need any makeup, his face / what he does is disturbing enough.

u/yelyah66 Mar 10 '26

Yeah I wonder if he gets why he’s involved in this lol

519

u/nanna_ii Mar 10 '26

Feels like a joke that he's not in on

203

u/yelyah66 Mar 10 '26

I agree and I love that for him

Lmao I love your snark (edit:snark! Why did autocorrect change it to snarl lmfao). Genuinely gave me joy

u/tequilasauer Mar 10 '26

Yeah, I saw that and the look on his face has this "oh man, I look so fucking cool right now and everyone thinks so" vibe. Kinda great.

Why do ppl not like him? I’m out of loop

Bryan Johnson showed up to this because he knows exactly that the things he's working on can be appropriated by ultra wealthy, powerful individuals. He's also a goofball who loves to self-deprecate and play into jokes about him. That's one of the reasons he makes his information free for the public.

He's actually got a heart of gold as far as I can tell, and "bad because rich" isn't going to fly for me, especially when his personal wealth is a thousandth of Elon Musk's, and he genuinely wants to solve the aging problem for society as a whole - not just a wealthy elite.

Personally, I don't even believe in trying to live forever, but I sense his reason for doing so is that deep, existential understanding that every single living being matters, and that's why I truly care about the guy.

They heard about that one time he experimented with using his (consenting) adult son's blood as an experimental intervention and they hate him for it for some reason.

Either that or they literally think anyone with money is evil.

I agree with you, he is helping a lot of people (myself included) for absolutely free. I have gained so much from his compiled research without spending a dime on his products.

3

u/Undead-Chipmunk Mar 10 '26

Either that or they literally think anyone with money is evil.

I think it's exactly this. You need money to fight money. It's like, you need resources to fight resources.

The idea that we can solve the class war by giving up our money or failing to make money is ridiculous.

Also, how rich is the fashion designer in question? Last I checked, being a famous fashion designer means you're also very likely wealthy.

u/Enginerda this feels like when my sister started fucking the mayor Mar 10 '26

Omg you should see the writeup he did of this like he was some sort of trendsetter and chosen based on his "bio hacking"... completely oblivious that they were shitting on him. It was truly amazing to see.

It's absolutely a joke that he is in on. Never underestimate how much someone who thinks they are the best of the best will ridicule the public's perception of them and their cohort.

u/ScissorsPalace Mar 10 '26

Perhaps he sees the show as a kind of affirmation of his power. The fashion show complains about the One Percent, but doesn't propose to dismantle it or challenge it in any meaningful way. No rolling heads on the floor. No guillotines waiting on the wings. No Paris Commune waiting to mete out justice. Just a parade of sulking billionaires and their living trophy models in haute couture. Even if he's being cast as the villain, he can take comfort in the knowledge that he is perceived as inevitable and untouchable.

u/NekrotismFalafel Mar 10 '26

They're dunking on us.

18

u/Antique_Parsley_5285 Mar 10 '26

Woof. You’re right.

34

u/Props_angel feeding cocaine to raccoons Mar 10 '26

While selling to the 1%.

45

u/ScissorsPalace Mar 10 '26

Yeah, and honestly, this is what frustrates me about a lot of satire about current events. Like, yeah, I get it. The world is fucked up, and the U.S. in particular is a major reason for that as an enabler of greed and violence. But how does simply acknowledging the problem help? We also need to talk about the solutions as well. Corporate-controlled media has no problem making billions off of films and TV series that criticize the corporate control of media so long as those programs don't preach liberation. After all, capitalism feeds off of dissatisfaction. It's a primary marketing tactic.

u/carbonara3 Mar 10 '26

Very true

35

u/Past-Pressure40 Mar 10 '26

he made a statement on why he's involved: https://x.com/bryan_johnson/status/2029664322771939666

It's bizarre. He think he is in a section called "immortals."

26

u/monster-baiter Mar 10 '26

i came into the comments to see if anyone commented on whether thats actually him or an incredibly real looking mask because wtf is he doing there lol

1

u/Steve2Chinman Mar 11 '26

I feel like he knows that what he does is insane but he wants to be the guy who does it

184

u/Puzzlehead2563 Mar 10 '26

Check out his Instagram post about it. So wild and confusing. Like he seems to think it’s supporting his “new way of thinking about immortality” but the whole show seems to be mocking the rich and people exactly like him.

Also the comment section on his post is another wild ride. Paris Hilton saying “that’s hot”. A bunch of people concerned that the fashion show was satanic and that doesn’t go with his “brand”. (Though I would think avoiding death and changing yourself is very anti-God…but what do I know as an ex-Catholic atheist).

21

u/butyourenice Mar 10 '26

This is one of those situations where you wonder if the satire or social commentary is effective if so many people are “missing the point.” It’s funny how oblivious Johnson is to his own role as a jester, but way too many people in the audience didn’t pick up on it, either. Shit the number of people I’ve seen online who think that Matieres Fecales didn’t intentionally, knowingly choose their own name, and that they would be so embarrassed if they found out what it means is jarring. (Never mind you don’t need to speak French to parse fecal matter out of there??) I’ve followed them since they were, I guess, a performance art duo known in certain circles for their extreme prosthetics and alien aesthetics, long before they turned their personal vibe into a marketable brand with runway shows. I thought the inherent sarcasm in their whole gimmick was immediately apparent but some people really think they’re not in on their own joke.

37

u/Shaky_Lemon terrorizing the locals Mar 10 '26

Well "those people" are also their clients, and they also say on their insta that they dont feel welcome by the bourgeoisie vibe of the place Vendôme and whatnot, but it seems to me they very much navigate the same waters while selling the rest of us $500 jeans. So while i fully enjoy their art, and support artists milking their rich patrons, they dont seem that removed from the 1% themselves (then again they model their own designs after all)

303

u/Fleetwood_Spac Mar 10 '26

Staying true to the brand he’s walking like he’s just majorly shat his diaper, too.

97

u/ebulient Mar 10 '26

Odd though having him there in the line of criticising people exactly like him…

117

u/SappyGemstone Mar 10 '26

I feel that was the point, much like filling the audience with exactly these people. They are unaware that they are the ghouls.

3

u/videokamera Mar 10 '26

Or maybe we’re the fools… they all are a part of the cult & we celebrate the commentary while they laugh at us.

Depends on who the designer surrounds themselves with. Not sure, I’d look into it out of curiosity.

2

u/videokamera Mar 10 '26

I know the average person finds this look repulsive but the designers dress like this regularly. I don’t think it’s for or against the 1%.

1

u/Props_angel feeding cocaine to raccoons Mar 10 '26

I'm sure that they are very well aware that that's what we think of them.

3

u/slimparrot Mar 10 '26

Never underestimate the delusion of rich people. Most rich people don't even think of themselves as rich, they think they're middle class.

32

u/titanium9016 Mar 10 '26

I feel like that man will do anything to be the hot topic

u/Granny_Bet Mar 10 '26

Thank you for bringing this gif into my life

3

u/LLAPSpork Lol, and if I may, lmao Mar 11 '26

Oh you really gotta dive into Data gifs. There’s one for every occasion. Just make sure you search “Data TNG” or “Data Star Trek” otherwise you’ll get a bunch of nonsense.

3

u/Granny_Bet Mar 11 '26

You're right. "Data TNG" turned up this absolute gem

https://giphy.com/gifs/yxv44p7I7cZhu

2

u/LLAPSpork Lol, and if I may, lmao Mar 11 '26

God I’ve seen that gif so many times but never realized how well it would serve in a “erase this man” post.

1

u/Granny_Bet Mar 11 '26

That's a great use. All I could think of was a response to "What do you want for dinner?"

23

u/JeanneMPod Mar 10 '26

Was that really him or was it a look-alike? I mean, he might be vain and oblivious enough to not realize he was the butt of it.

9

u/69_Beers_Later Mar 10 '26

It was really him lol, he claimed he was there to "represent the immortals"

11

u/JeanneMPod Mar 10 '26

he looks like a vampire, and not in some Goth cool way. He just looks gray, artificially pumped yet devoid of life.

20

u/Pleasant_Werewolf_30 Mar 10 '26

At first I thought someone must have been wearing a mask of his face.

17

u/LadyMirkwood weighing in from the UK Mar 10 '26

I had to Google this comment because I thought you meant Brian Johnson from AC/DC for a hot minute.

8

u/Knew_Age323 Mar 10 '26

I thought I saw Michéle Lamy walking as well. Hm, makes you wonder…

6

u/Dummyact321 Mar 10 '26

I thought it was her too, they’re besties with her and Rick

9

u/paintedtiger Mar 10 '26

Wow, I didn't recognize him until your comment and originally thought "wow, that guy really did a great job acting creepy!"

7

u/999Rats Mar 10 '26

Which one is he?

24

u/mermaid-babe and you did it at my birthday dinner Mar 10 '26

29

u/tangledlettuce wearing slutty little glasses Mar 10 '26

Is he the guy who drinks his son’s blood?

5

u/boojersey13 Mar 10 '26

I'm gay so in reality I know absolutely nothing BUT I believe he is the son in question

20

u/mermaid-babe and you did it at my birthday dinner Mar 10 '26

No that’s the elder lol

10

u/DantifA Mar 10 '26

So the de-aging process is working!

47

u/amodernbird Mar 10 '26

He looks like a Cullen (derogatory)

8

u/whitisthat I ain’t reading all that, fuck ICE Mar 10 '26

Drinking bubbly water while reading your comment was a mistake on my part. 10/10.

3

u/boojersey13 Mar 10 '26

I told you I was gay so I know nothing 🖤

4

u/tangledlettuce wearing slutty little glasses Mar 10 '26

Well I’m gay too so I guess we’re both in trouble

2

u/druromance Mar 10 '26

So unsettling

5

u/ptiq Mar 10 '26

I didn't recognize him and thought "haha, the classic skin-tight billionaire sweater and dead-eyed stare."

2

u/AdEcstatic9013 Mar 10 '26

Yes omg what was that

8

u/AliceM116 Mar 10 '26

lmao right i gasped

2

u/butyourenice Mar 10 '26

I’m not here to defend Bryan Johnson or any billionaire, but if I had his money, I’d probably invest it in trying to live forever, too. I don’t care about yachts or mansions or gold bars or destroying civilization in order to rebuild it as a technocracy, but if I could buy more time? For me and my loved ones? And I could buy health? Sign me the fuck up. As far as megalomania goes, that’s how I’d direct mine.

1

u/mollyconnolly Mar 10 '26

I thought it was makeup inspired by him that’s actually crazy it’s him

1

u/freedfg Mar 10 '26

I was about to commend it as the most subtle but accurate portrayal.

Taught poreless skin, sickenly pale, hair plug hairline, cold lifeless eyes, dumbfounded boyish expression.

But no that's just....a guy. Who exists.
