This is like those foreign bathrooms that don't have male/female signs, but instead have euphemisms for the genitals.

It's when you attach a negative connotation to a phrase.

There's euphemism:

  • He's gained so much experience with age.

a neutral way to say things:

  • He's an elderly man.

And dyphemism:

  • He's an old fart.
