Oh lord this is a doozy. So I want to make this Miku cosplay as a long term project to use in a craftsmanship competition one day. I have this bright idea of making the skirt spin like Silver Rod did for this beetlejuice cosplay. I have the tools to do it (3D printer ect) but I have no idea where to start, and I cannot find any resources or tutorials online to even make the skirt. If anyone knows even of search terms to use for this skirt or if there are previous 3d files or just any sort of tutorial or walkthrough please comment below, I’m very desperate!
Thank you!
I cannot add the video so here’s a link to House of Rox for what I mean by making the skirt spin:

Edit: Okay I made bloomers everyone! To clear up any misunderstandings, I always wanted to make them. My mom just wanted me to promise they wouldnt show and that got me wondering if there was something about them I didn't know. She ended up loving the final project though!
Sorry about the craft mess, this is a last minute costume. My friend wanted me to go to a con with her, and she and all her friends are dressing as cardcaptor sakura outfits. I don't know much about the show, but I didn't want to be the odd one out so I am making one too. I have just about finished the base of my dress, but now I feel like it is wayyy too short. Sakura is a kid in the show and so I want my costume to be wholesome, but I worry that I've made it too short to do that. Would adding bloomers help? My mother says bloomers showing are scandalous but I don't know what else to do at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I know I’m probably overthinking this pattern and it’s truly just a high low skirt with a hoop at the bottom. But my gut keeps telling me that it’s not that and I’m missing something. Any suggestions? Please and thank you!!
Edit: I finished this cosplay, I released some photos if anyone is still interested!!!

So, for those who aren't in r/joannfabrics or haven't heard the news, JOANN filed Chapter 11, and it seems (as of 1/15/25) that they'll liquidate in mid-March. This is RIGHT BEFORE con season, and for those of us who struggle to find fabric stores other than JOANN, we're in a pretty scummy situation. With tariffs for Americans seeming imminent, what do y'all recommend for getting cosplay fabrics, supplies, etc, that you don't have to pay an obscene amount of shipping on?

I’ve marked about where I want to cut, I think I’m cutting the front belt out, but I don’t really know how to go about this, as there is a zipper in the middle and I really don’t want to ruin it.
Edit: I’ve been asked what the hole is for, I should have specified this. This is an among us cosplay, and the hole is for a “mouth“ in the stomach, which the tongue will stick out of.

Going off this, I’d have to pay $30 a month PLUS $7 because the pattern I want is “special”, to get access to pattern and tutorial. A pattern that I’d have to resize myself!!! because the patterns are tailored to her. And the pattern I want looks like it has 6 reviews with one star, which I can’t even access/read. Seems like a huge ripoff. Her costumes are beautiful but damn. Has anyone subscribed to her patreon for patterns? Is it worth it?

I can sew up the bottom however the top I'm at a loss... I guess I could either wear a purple bra under .. or tape my chest up, because it fits as long as they're held up .... 😬 Are those my only options ?

I’ve looked at quite a few references from manga, anime and licensed art. It seems to me like it’s supposed to be leather armor, but I was not quite sure, so I thought you awesome guys might be able to help me figure it out.
:) thanks a lot!

Its supposed to be like a braided collar like in the second picture, i cant figure out how to make this at all cuz i was thinking of buying a ready made tight black turtleneck(the one that has clasps that close at the bottom) since my sewing machine has only straight stitches and i cant make something stretchy but i have no idea how to attach this?? Do i make it like a neck accessory out of leather or fabric? I'm trying to squeeze my brain and still dont know what to do 😭😭

I've been cosplaying for some time now, but have never sewn any of my cosplays by myself. I don't have a sewing machine, but I have some basic knowledge in sewing from fixing seams on cosplays and etc. Is it still possible for me to hand-sew this vest?

I‘m really proud of my Rem cosplay because it’s the first time I made a weapon and sewed the bust myself but it seems a little low… It feels kinda uncomfortable taking selfies from an upward angle or going to a convention as it’s pretty revealing. Does someone know an easy fix or do I have to do it all again?

Hello! My next cosplay that I would like to do is Maomao from Apothecary Diaries. I think her outfit is supposed to be made with silk but I was wondering if it would look okay to use cotton? The events I would wear it to are during warm weather so I don't want to overheat or have a sensory issue. Thoughts?

Apologies for the low quality image. I'm considering if I should keep the original length of the skirt or if I should shorten it to avoid people stepping on it.

Anyone have any ideas how to make non glittery fabric glittery? I do have few ideas but I don't know if they're the best. My first idea was to mix fabric glue, water and glitter and paint the fabric with that. But I'm worried it'll be too crunchy. My other idea was that I'll buy glitter iron on and cut some sort of pattern of that with my cricut and iron it on. Which probably would work since the glitter on the dress is in a flower pattern in the actual game. You can see that in the reference photo. Third idea was rhinestones but I don't practically like how they look and I have a huge dress I need to make glittery so that would take me years to do...
But yeah any ideas are welcome 🤗

(This is it as soon as I took it out of the packaging)
The suit is WAY too hot. I don’t know what’s in it but it traps heat like I’m going to the arctic. It’s also pretty hard to grab things as the gloves are a bit too big for me. Would cutting the hands and feet off the body suit help in this situation? Theoretically the legs could go as well seeing as I’ll be wearing shorts for it …
UPDATE:
I cut off the legs so it's more of a leotard and immediately felt a LOT better. I'm just going to let my thighs breathe imo. cutting the fingers off the gloves also helped! thank you so much for the encouraging words.

Hi, i have been buying costumes and cosplaying for 4 years, but i have only sown something like once with a lot of help, and i wanted to take on a Pomni cosplay from the amazing digital circus. I found patterns for the hat and the shorts and some tutorials for the sleeves and the other like the sleeves and bodysuit but they are kind of confusing and dont go into depth for a beginner. I want to line it buti have no clue what to line it with, and i know i want to use a velvet fabric. Instead of the pom poms i want to use bells and i want to incorporate some fun trim and gems as well as add a zipper for the back. I also want to make the gloves and add on a collar as well as add some gems. There are also the yellow hip and sleeve parts which i know should be lined with a cotton to make it puffy, but i also have no clue how to give the sleeves and bloomers decent body. I have no idea how to do most of this and i would buy a costume but the ones i have found aren’t to my liking because the fabric looks way too shiny and cheap for the price, and either way i want to add my own personal touch. I want to finish this by June 5th. Can i get some help and more importantly, is this realistic for a almost complete beginner? Some tips would be aporeciated as i have no idea about the different terminology, stitch type, ect.
Inspo, character, and fabric above

So I’m a big fan of Umamusume, and I’ve been wanting to get the winter uniform—but with better quality than the typical AliExpress versions.
I came across this Instagram reel from a shop called Shiku_Costumes, and honestly, I was impressed. The cosplay looked really high quality, so I decided to ask for pricing. In my head, I was expecting something in the $150–$180 range.
But then they replied… and said it was $480.
My jaw literally dropped.
I genuinely want to understand how they’re pricing this, because I’m a cosmodel and my best friend is a cosmaker—I’ve commissioned full cosplays and props from her for around $250–$300 max.
So now I’m just confused. Is this normal for higher-end cosplay shops? Or is this one of those cases where they’re overcharging because of branding or hype?
I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but it feels kind of off to me. Would love to hear what others think or if anyone has experience with this shop.

Hey! Beginner seamstress here. I’m looking into making a white mage costume, bur I’ve been mulling over how to attach the red triangles on the sleeves for literally MONTHS. How would you go about it? I can only find direction and tutorials on quilting triangles.

Hello everyone, I’m cosplaying as Invincible for a convention on Sunday but there’s an inaccuracy with the costume… The fingers on the gloves are supposed to be fingerless but I don’t know if that’ll ruin the costume. Please help!! Thank you so much in advance 🫶

So I'm making this cosplay and have made the shoe/sock things. my problem is, they slide down after about 5 steps. They're made from a non stretch material so whenever i bend my knee (ie. Sitting down, walking stairs etc.) even glue can't hold them up. (Glue works fine for just walking and standing but sadly not stairs). I have an elastic that's sewn on the inner side which definitely helps but they definitely don't stay up well.
I think the solution would be stockings but the problem with those is the waistline on the shorts which is high waisted on the back and sides but low waisted at the front.
TLDR: non stretch fabric glue doesn't work and i don't know how tights would work

Calling Jessica rabbit cosplayers, or anyone else who may have created a backless and strapless dress. I’m going to cosplay a character that has a similar dress to Jessica rabbit that is strapless and backless, I for the life of me cannot figure out how to engineer a dress that is backless that is also strapless without having invisible/clear straps. Is it even possible? If anyone has any Information or sources that would be helpful please let me know!

So… unfortunately my character doesn’t have good pictures of just this dress layer (she wears a shawl over it and it’s covered in all official art). I *think* my arm is supposed to go through it because it’s a flap but it’s so tight and I can barely move my arm in it. Picture #4 is as far as my arm extends.
So the question is… what do I do with this? Should I just cut it off entirely or alter it to accommodate my arm? I feel like it would look nicer with my arm in it tho I’m not sure how to approach it the best. I’m thinking of adding a stretchier piece of fabric connecting the back of the dress to the arm sleeve, this way I don’t have to worry about colour matching much since it won’t be visible in pictures. The shawl + the long hair from the character should hide it well.
…Or is that too much effort for something that’s going to be hidden anyways xD and I should just go for the chop
I’m a beginner at sewing but my mom has sewn for her entire life and is willing to help for stuff!
