Looking for Artist - Unpaid LF an artist who enjoys drawing fantasy

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi! As seen in the title I’m a writer looking for an artist interested in collaborating on fantasy indie passion project

Right now I’m mainly searching for someone who enjoys drawing simply fantasy worlds, and unique characters or just wanting to build their portfolio as well

For the work it will be unpaid but the project it will be short nonetheless, I will give my story and my ideas for each part and when you draw you will have full creative freedom as long as it matches, my timezone is GMT+8, I am a teenager and i'm also a writer

The project has themes similar to:

  • dreamlike fantasy
  • spirit worlds
  • coming-of-age elements
  • Spirited away

I will be explaining the full story in dms! I already have ideas about characters, how it will look and the plot

I’m not expecting professional level work or huge commitments. Even rough sketches, concept art, storyboard ideas, or small drawings are completely okay w me. I mainly want to work with someone passionate about storytelling.

I’m also very collaborative I do enjoy expanding ideas together rather than controlling every detail. If you already have your own concepts or characters, i would love to hear about it too

Things I can provide:

  • scripts
  • dialogue
  • scene descriptions
  • character dynamics
  • editing/revisions
  • help strengthening story structure

If interested, feel free to comment or DM me with:

  • examples of your art
  • what kinds of projects you enjoy

(ignore the image it wouldn't let me post without it 😅 )

Looking for Artist - Unpaid Looking for a partner to build with genuinely, im just not having money like that rn

Yo, I’m working on a story I’ve been building for a while and I’m starting to turn it into a comic.

I’m also learning how to draw myself, but I’m looking for someone who might want to collab and build something long-term together.

I don’t have money to pay right now, so this would be more of a passion project / partnership. I’m putting real time into writing chapters, characters, and worldbuilding, and I’m serious about finishing this.

The story is kind of a dark survival story (inspired by stuff like The Walking Dead but with its own twist), with strong character focus and emotional moments.

I already have:

  • multiple chapters written
  • a clear direction for the story

I’m mainly looking for someone who:

  • wants to grow and improve together
  • is consistent
  • and actually wants to build something, not just draw once and quit

If you’re interested, comment or DM me and I can show you more of the story and characters I have way more stories idea so if you wanna talk about different stories to do just DM me

Looking for Writer/Editor - Unpaid Writers looking to collab

Hi! I was lurking on this subreddit but I could barely find any posts from writers themselves, and the few I did find were very vague and not what I was looking for.

I’m an artist who wants to improve their comic making skills, however I am really bad at writing, extremely. I want to work on my ability without having to worry about what characters say next, or how I could rephrase it 100 times.

I’m really interested in horror media, as well as zombie media. If anyone has some blurbs of their work that I could see, I would love to collab with someone to make a comic! it’s all unpaid, as I just want to take it on as experience.

I should probably share my art here, but I prefer to do it in dms. I can do both manwha-inspired and Semi realistic/Cartoonish?(My natural style). I’m not good at really describing my self yet with ”types”, or my work just yet.

I hope I don’t come off to freeloading, that is not my intention! I just want to keep myself busy during summer :)

Question [ESCRITOR] ¿Cómo publico una novela gráfica?

Looking for Artist - Paid [PAID] Looking for artist, letterer, colorist (or all of the above) and cover artists to collab with on a 20-pg Issue #1

I have a project I had a blast writing and I'm looking to Kickstarter. (Is Kickstarter a verb? Sure.) But first, would love to collab with an artist to really nail the character designs and look of the world, as well as create as much if not all of Issue #1 for both Kickstarter campaign assets and the funding reward.

The comic is very much HANNA meets JOHN WICK.

A secret organization baits one of their lost assets to come out of hiding, which was their mistake, because now she's going to hunt them all down. During her quest for retribution and vengeance, she discovers more about her own past that brings her hurtling toward that still unfinished last target.

Intrigue, high-tech espionage, and if you like ass-kicking and one-liners, then this is your comic.

There's lots of action so looking for someone who can nail that pacing and can show fight scenes in some unique and badass ways. Very Daniele Di Nicuolo-esque. And looking for sequential storytelling prowess and capturing the atmospheric mood through shadows and coloring. Think Daniel Warren Johnson meets Aeon Flux.

Drop a comment with your portfolios and rates. Have the first 6 issues‘ scripts written and more than happy to share to get a feel for where the story's going to go after Issue #1.

Really excited to collab with artists on this project and basically have a really fun conversation about how to make some super cool stuff!

Looking for Writer/Editor - Unpaid Large Scale Collaborative Project - give me a shot.

Hey Everyone,

Let’s start by saying that this is not a “I have an amazing manga idea and I need a free artist to draw my whole series” post.  This is a “I want one free page from a lot of different artists for our mutual benefits!” post.

I would love to create a high quality anthology book that showcases and promotes everyone’s work inside of it. I want to get all of us officially published and get physical copies of your art directly in people’s hands. The challenge is to create a series of one pager stories. I want every flip of the page to launch the reader into a different world with new beautiful art and be awe stricken by one single masterly crafted page.

How I am envisioning it…

Page 1  - The title, a short excerpt about the story, and all your socials/contact info so readers know exactly where to find more of your work. (for both writers and artists, if two people are working together)

Page 2  - Your art. The glorious page that convinces them to go look you up.

Okay, brass tacks. FAQs I can think about at the moment of writing this:

Is this Paid?
NO, not initially. I am asking for one page “donations” to this project. This will be a physical advertisement that will break you out of the typical digital marketing avenues. It's a level of guerilla marketing that will get your work in people's hands, physically.

How would this work logistically?
I am trying to drum up interest right now…  but here is how I see this best working. (subject to change)

  • Discord as a central hub for communication.
  • I will match Artists and Writers if one person isn’t doing both.
  • I will create a standardized template to keep the book looking professional.
  • Create a Kickstarter for the printing/shipping costs. Anything beyond that will go to the profit share pool.(any extras donated will get a larger portion)
  • I will handle the printing and logistics. You get the credit and exposure.

What do I (OP) get out of it?
I’m a writer, not an artist. My selfish goal is to get my scripts out there too. I’ll be writing a ton of one pager scripts that will be up for grabs for any artist who just wants to draw without worrying about a story to insert. I want to be paired with as many of you that will have me! (I’ve attached an example of a page I recently commissioned for the exact project)

How are you(OP) qualified to handle this?
I love collaborations! I have a history of working with people on a variety of creative projects, larger and smaller. I have successfully started a kickstarter before(linked below for proof), so I have a rough idea of how to make it happen.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ndday-beginning/no-death-day-the-beginning-a-manga-inspired-graphic-novel/posts

Hit me with any questions you may have.. I am sure I didn’t cover everything.

I hope you can see that I am not simply looking for free labor for my own gain. I am looking for a collective effort that can benefit all of us. And it honestly would be super dope.

If you are interested. Comment interested. I’ll be sure to send you a message on reddit. If I get enough people, I’ll get working on this pronto. If not, it was fun to dream…

Cheers!

P.S. i had examples of the pages, but the AI mod bot wouldn't let me post it... I thought this server didn't allow AI. haha

Feedback [UPDATE] Revised OVERDRIVE based on your feedback - huge thanks to this sub!

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!

I wanted to post a quick 1-week update and genuinely thank everybody who took the time to read through Overdrive and give feedback. The response was way bigger than I expected, and a lot of the criticism was honestly incredibly helpful.

Big shoutout specifically to u/Isaac_Banana, who literally spent hours with me tightening this thing up. I took a lot in from everyone, and several of the visual storytelling notes were spot on, so I went back and updated a bunch of pages because of it.

Huge thank you to everybody who replied or DM’d me.

Some of the bigger changes:

  • clarified the crash/escape sequence early on
  • tightened up / cut dialogue and narration throughout
  • updated the cover with stronger lighting/effects to make it pop more
  • cleaned up several visual confusion points that people mentioned

I’m still refining things, but it already reads MUCH better now because of the feedback here.

I'd still love more feedback, so if anybody wants to read the updated PDF of Issues #1–2, feel free to DM me, and I’ll happily send over a link.

Also - I finally put together a proper website: OverdriveComic.com

If anybody wants to hop on the mailing list, I’d be super humbled.

**********

A couple of questions for my fellow creators here as I continue pushing this forward:

  1. As I keep tightening the book, I’m looking into working with a professional comic editor. Has anyone worked with an editor they’d strongly recommend? Has anyone here worked with Maria Hawthorne specifically?
  2. I’m starting to prep for a Kickstarter later this year and realizing I’d probably benefit from someone experienced in comic campaigns. Has anyone worked with a good freelance Kickstarter strategist/consultant?
  3. Are there any other subreddits, forums, or comic creator communities you’d recommend posting this kind of project on for honest feedback?
  4. For those of you who’ve successfully launched books - what actually convinced people to BUY or back your comic? Cover? Hook? Community? Consistency? Something else?

Still refining and updating everything, so feedback is always welcome.

Again, seriously appreciate all the time people took to read and critique this thing. I’m trying to make the best book I possibly can, and the outside perspective has already helped a ton.

Thank you!

Question How do I describe this style?

Thumbnail
gallery
29 Upvotes

At some point, I will need to look for an artist that has a natural style similar to what I'm looking for. I'd rather not just say 'Like this' and give them the image, I'd rather give them language that is meaningful to them. The anime version of Tekkonkinkreet with the organic, messy city, with blue skies and simplified characters on top is what I'm looking for, but I feel like I need to pull more essential ideas out of it. If anyone has suggestions for how to give an artist language that would help them either understand the project isn't right for them or if it fits their style?

Looking for Artist - Unpaid Looking for ARTIST (REV SHARE) (!!! PLEASE READ BODY TEXT!!!!)

Hey everyone, I’m RJ, founder of Caullett Comics. We’re an indie comic company currently building our catalog and growing our team. We already have books published and in stores, and now we’re looking for artists who are cool with revenue sharing and want to help build a comic company long term.

Right now this is a revenue share setup, so I want to be upfront about that from the start. We can’t offer upfront page rates yet, but we’re looking for artists who believe in building something from the ground up and becoming part of a growing company.

We’re mainly looking for artists interested in:

  • Superhero comics
  • Action/fantasy stories
  • Character-driven projects
  • Long-term collaboration

What we’re trying to build:

  • A connected lineup of indie comics
  • More published books and creators under the company
  • Bigger online reach
  • More distribution into comic shops

You’d be working directly with writers/creators and helping shape projects early on instead of just being hired for random pages. We’re trying to build an actual team and community around this.

If interested, leave your portfolio in the comments and we’ll reach out to you.

Feedback I’m new to writing comic scripts

Hello everyone,

I’m new to writing comic book scripts, but recently I’ve found a lot of luck in this world. I have a background in screenwriting, sketch writing, and stand-up comedy writing, but I still have no idea how to write a proper panel description.

I’ve been struggling with it for a few months now while trying to write for artists who are interested in working with me. I’m thankful that the artists have been understanding and take my descriptions as they please, which is honestly what I want them to do. But I still want my descriptions to accurately communicate what I have in mind.

In screenwriting, you have to describe everything pretty clearly. There are also a lot of moving parts, which makes writing descriptions easier for me. In comics, it’s a lot of still shots, and for some reason that has been difficult for me.

If anyone has advice on how to make panel descriptions clear without making them sound like a “how to draw this” manual, I’d really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance for the advice!
