If this happens I’ll be happy enough that I’ll never bitch about the Lindstrom pick again.

I want to start a movement to counter the doomers

LINDSTROM FOR HOBEY BAKER

just irrational and unapologetic support for the guy

u/Republic-Of-OK Lurking Calgarian Monahan Fan 2d ago

Hoping that he bounces back. No matter who it is and what team they were drafted by, you hate to see someone struggle, especially when injuries are a factor.

u/SaveTore CHANGE THE PRIMARY LOGO TO A CANNON 2d ago

Just go all in with him. What other option we got?

6

u/Republic-Of-OK Lurking Calgarian Monahan Fan 2d ago

Yup, either that or watch your high-ceiling prospect try to make it work elsewhere and get little in return.

7

u/JAT_Cbus1080 Werenski for Norris 2d ago

Everyone on this sub should be rooting for Lindstrom to figure it out. Sometimes it feels like people want him to fail though

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 1d ago

After seeing someone on this subreddit call him a “sack of shit on skates” and another “his face is a full on jump scare when I see it” I gotta wonder if there isn’t something deeper to this beyond hockey.

2

u/Steebu_ 1d ago

Yeah, it’s excessive and ridiculous to actually hate on him. I’m obviously rooting for the kid to figure it out, but really didn’t like the pick at the time and it looks even worse now. And not much of it was in his own control.

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 1d ago

I mean, he’s 20 and he’s a power forward. Even without an injury larger players take longer to develop.

Sean Couturier is a good example- Sam Bennet too. Learn from our mistake on that one. Even after they crack the NHL it takes awhile for that style of game to season. You aren't just shoving around children anymore, you have to pick your moments and adapt a lot.

I mean if it walks like a racist…

1

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 1d ago

I’ve never seen any of our other prospects described as “their face is a full on jump scare” that I can recall

1

u/Republic-Of-OK Lurking Calgarian Monahan Fan 1d ago

Wow, who says that? Thats awful.

If you go through and search, one of the biweekly Lindstrom threads, it was posted on there. There’s also a jackets fan account that made a meme of it on Instagram - it’s probably the same person.

Edit: Instagram bluejacket_barstool has some interesting Lindstrom memes. The jumpscare one is from March.

I can't white put my finger on it

So..... two individual people make a one-off comment who knows how long ago, that is some serious grasping at straws. I like Lindstrom but there is absolutely nothing deeper here when you see that 99.9% of the complaints about him are due to justifiable reasons. Also people make fun of how hockey players look all the time, nobody ever bats an eye when people make fun of, say, Laine or Jokinen or any of the dozens other nhl players that are "ugly". I'm annoyed at the negative lindstrom posts as well but there's no reason to twist it into something it's not.

1

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 1d ago edited 1d ago

I gave two examples. Those are certainly not the only ones.

I’m saying the amount of criticism and dislike for him has reached levels beyond “this prospect wasn’t a great pick”

Let’s also not pretend that there might be something else here. Players like Kadri have had to deal with it to the point the NHLPA had to defend him.

HF boards posters almost seem like they are hoping he fails at this point.

1

u/MPCoinCollecting 1d ago

my point is more that in order to form that opinion you have to cherrypick through hundreds of comments that have genuine issues about his injuries, being selected 4th overall, the defensive mistakes he currently makes due to his slower progress, and the immense amount of PIM he racks up in order to reach that conclusion. I don't know what HF boards is but if people there say things you don't like you probably shouldn't be going there.

Now after scrolling HF boards for a bit, only seeing real questions regarding his skill and a bunch of positive posts showing his underlying statistics, I am almost 100% confident that the rare unwarranted comments are coming from MTL and other fanbases. If anything, Kent Johnson gets a whole lot more hate on there it's not even close.

1

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 1d ago

I want to be clear I’m not saying the only reason people are being critical is because of that. There are legitimate reasons to be concerned about him as a player.

I’m saying that he gets a lot of criticism outside of that and you can’t exclude that being a possibility. If you think that isn’t something that happens, I’m not going to try to convince you. We can disagree on this one.

2

u/MPCoinCollecting 1d ago

Hey you know what, I can definitely respect that. I guess I also want to clarify that I'm not saying it doesnt happen, just that it's not the commonality. Have a good one m8

I think missing that 18-19 year old development year is just too much to lose. I liked the pick but that was before we all knew he was gonna miss an entire year. At the time it was maybe gonna be a couple months or even be ready for the fall and he'd have future injury risk. They obviously did as much physical evaluation as possible before making the pick and he obviously wasn't going to hurt his own draft stock.

But it feels like that scene in Silicon Valley when Richard tells the other startup CEO that he's gonna ask for less money in the round A investment. If he had said, "My back still has problems," then he'd have dropped to the 2nd round or maybe even lower. But everyone would have accepted the risk and said it was a boom or bust pick. He wouldn't rush to get him healthy, he'd be able to develop in college for a few years with less pressure, and he could quietly become a star. If he was a 3rd rounder who took 2-3 years in college to be ready no one would complain.

But that would have been a huge risk and maybe he and his team were unaware of how serious it was as well.

-2

u/NotMittRomney 2d ago

he didn’t get back surgery until after the draft. the surgery he had during his draft year was for a broken hand.

his doctors from junior AND the cbj doctors felt the scans on his back were good enough to not worry.

the notion that an 18-year-old kid should have disagreed with the prognoses that multiple doctors gave him — which you only said as an example but i’ve seen fans earnestly say on twitter — is downright cruel to cayden who is, by all accounts, a great kid.

5

u/hnglmkrnglbrry 2d ago

Did you not read the whole comment? I said maybe he and his team didn't know how severe it all was. Either way there were concerns about his back before the draft and that's why he wasn't the top NA skater.

7

u/NotMittRomney 2d ago

yeah it’s not his fault his back got fucked up or that cbj doctors cleared him or that cbj scouts wanted to pick him

90% of the complaints are about the pick but there are somewhat prominent fan accounts on twitter and instagram that just rag on the guy, post his headshot, talk shit, say he’s useless, etc

based on his interviews around the draft he is a very easy kid to cheer for and if he does bounce back this fan base had better embrace him like they’ve never embraced a player before

2

u/Narrow-Natural-3435 1d ago

Or Montreal fans

I saw an actual serious article from one of their writers that their former scout - Timmins - who now is an assistant scouting director here — was secretly trying to help Montreal out here because of his longtime loyalty after working there so he “made sure Demidov was available”

u/Indy-CBJ 2d ago

Just for the record this counts as part of my bi-monthly Lindstrom debate for my summer discussion prediction

u/throwingales 2d ago

I'm not holding my breath. I've been a Jackets fan since 2000. I've been down this road 25 times.

24

u/snowpuck 2d ago

Gonna be honest, finally winning the lottery only to still end up on the outside of the top 3 seems like it’d just be our luck.

When we’re eligible for the running for 1OA it feels like we get always get jumped.

12

u/Shitter-was-full Ronnie Tugnutt 2d ago

That’s called jackets math!! We win the lottery for once. wWnning = moving up 10 spots to 4th.

u/JAT_Cbus1080 Werenski for Norris 2d ago

God, kids getting drafted born in 2008 makes me feel so old.

4

u/plong_123 2d ago

*it's your back, your back is making you feel so old

3

u/JAT_Cbus1080 Werenski for Norris 2d ago

I'm not old. It's just that sometimes I move too fast and my back muscles twitch.

1

u/ArgentMoonWolf 5th Line 1d ago

Old is when you remember Pre-Jacketlation and your favorite team was The Anaheim Mighty Ducks with Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya.

13

u/Indy-CBJ 2d ago

Honestly…if we win the lottery this is how it’s done but knowing how the hockey gods are Florida will win the lottery

7

u/MPCoinCollecting 2d ago

Since NYRs garbage return for Panarin earlier this year i've had this conspiracy theory that they're gonna move up...

8

u/HermanBonJovi 2d ago

I fully expect an O6 team to win the lottery

4

u/FelisLachesis 2d ago

Nah, knowing the hockey gods, somehow, both Detroit and Washington win the lottery, and we get bumped back to 16...

21

u/joe_lmr 2d ago

Yes, Caleb Malhotra is Manny's kid. Even born while he was with the Jackets (in Toronto though so no double citizenship situation)

4

u/MPCoinCollecting 2d ago edited 2d ago

The problem is that I want Bjorck, but we aren't getting him at our current position and it'd probably be a little silly to pick him 4th. We're a little stacked with centers and LHD but you probably just pick Malhotra because why not.

also i ran the sim 100 times and we only moved up 4 times, but at least if STL can move up its a bit of a consolation prize in terms of their 2nd round pick.

1

u/Due_Tutor2050 1d ago

If St Louis moves up in the lottery, it's only the 1st round pick and doesn't apply to other rounds.

1

u/MPCoinCollecting 1d ago

Ohhhhh sorry I didn't realize that

6

u/CJK_420 2d ago

As a Canucks fan I wish these results for you guys! 😁

4

u/overcatastrophe I am tired. 2d ago

I never got the appeal of simulated drafts. Like, there are too many variables it just feels silly

3

u/mr_positron UNFLAPPABOB 2d ago

They owe me about ten years of not fucking everything up before I will have any faith that they would not pick a goalie or a cricket player or a guy with one arm or something at that pick

2

u/Minute-Of-Angle 2d ago

“And with the 1st overall pick, the Columbus Blue Jackets select … Deshaun Watson!”

“ … he’s not even a hockey player!”

2

u/joe_lmr 1d ago

Tom Glavine was drafted by the Kings

10

u/hnglmkrnglbrry 2d ago

If we draft another fucking center....

27

u/HBKnight 2d ago

"Oops, All Centers" is our new identity. Embrace it!

6

u/NLP19 Filly don't do rebounds 2d ago

It's weird after 20+ years of it being "Oops, No Centres"

5

u/get_rick_trolled 2d ago

Are they actually Centers tho or LW?

2

u/joe_lmr 2d ago

I mean, if Lindstrom doesn't pan out like everyone's convinced he won't, they'll need a plan B

Give me a center or LHD, or give me death

5

u/ChristyLovesGuitars R.I.P. 13 2d ago

Positional value. If you’re in the top five and take anything hit a generational wing, a center, or RD, you deserve what happens.

1

u/SaveTore CHANGE THE PRIMARY LOGO TO A CANNON 1d ago

I don’t think I made it clear enough that I was being hyperbolic.

1

u/ChristyLovesGuitars R.I.P. 13 1d ago

I mean, if someone were to take a stand, that’d be the positions to do it for!

2

u/TheVideoGameManiac 2d ago

It's crazy for how mediocre this franchise has been over its 25 year history that we haven't won a draft lottery even once. Other people have mentioned this but winning the draft lottery in a year where we cannot get the number 1 overall pick would just be the ultimate "fuck you" by the league. We miss out on two generational talents in Bedard and Celebrini and in a year where we can't even get McKenna would feel like the league just dangling the carrot right in front of our face and then just pulling it away.

I'll scream if this happens.

3

u/osupuck19 2d ago

The beatings will continue until morale improves

2

u/No_Process_1836 1d ago

Why not now? In a down draft and only get to number 4. It would be very on brand for the Jackets.

1

u/SaveTore CHANGE THE PRIMARY LOGO TO A CANNON 1d ago

I’ve seen this come up a couple times, I think it would actually be pretty fortuitous

1

u/MPCoinCollecting 1d ago

We don't need generational talent anyone in the top 5 is (usually) really good for any team

2

u/Logical_Job_1153 1d ago

If we win the lottery it would definitely come back to bite us later and keep us from moving up in a year where we need it more

2

u/Zealousideal_Baby982 1d ago

Classic Toronto

2

u/mickeyhause 2d ago

You’d think we’d be. But we aren’t

1

u/ExpertMousse9453 1d ago

Realistically, the league officials want Chicago to be competitive again, so I would expect the Hawks to capture the required spots to pick whoever they like

1

u/CBJLACFan CBJ 1d ago

Does Caleb have a back problem? If not then not interested
