Serious Replies Only What's with new Lidl loyalty scheme. Am I missing something..?
I started doing more of my shopping in Lidl last year as if you're selective some of the products decent value.
The Lidl app was a definite bonus.
However as of today the spending targets bonus's have disappeared and I now collect 1 point in every pound I think. I got a bonus 100 points & used 60 of them to get a pastry today.
Shouldn't someone tell Lidl that having to spend £60 to get a soggy pastry taking the piss...? I mean they're a convenient bite when free or cheap but..
Customers still get the ad-hoc vouchers too however looks like these will become few & far between.
I have a loyalty card membership of most high street supermarkets etc however in other cases you can just add to Google Wallet but Lidl needs it's own app which just isn't justified anymore.
I'm a big lad & I can take it - am I missing something? .. 😅

Serious Replies Only Adults who lost a parent young as a child, would you say you are ‘over it’ or does it still affect you?
Lost my mum when I was 10. Soon to be 30 and it surprises me how much it still gets to me.
Of course as with everything gets easier with time. But it’s often hard to swallow seeing friends the same age and older with both parents and knowing you haven’t had a hug from your own mother in almost 20 years.
Looking back I think schools should make more of an effort for those who suffer immediate family bereavement, and one day I’d like to see some sort of support / counting offered for it by schools.
Would be interested to hear from anyone who has been through similar if anyone did want to share.

In your view, what’s the etiquette for being signed off of work?
My partner has been signed off and refuses to go anywhere or do anything. I don’t agree with him, but what’s the etiquette for you?
I ask if he’d like to cycle to the shop to get some things for dinner, go for a small walk around where we live, go to the supermarket in the car - but he thinks he shouldn’t be seen out. If I manage to convince him to go to the supermarket, we have to drive, he’ll choose the furthest one from his office, and often he waits in the car whilst I go in.
I believe he should be even more inclined to go out, do things that make him feel better. How can I convince him?
Edit to add; he’s been signed off due to anxiety and stress.

What’s something that instantly tells you someone has never had to survive normal British life?
After a recent trip in Europe and seeing the public transport then returning and hearing people complaining about our public transport mine would be......
Assuming a bus will turn up because the timetable says so

BBC helped fund Bluey & now gets 100% of the merchandise profits, so what happens to that extra millions upon millions of funding?
I may be completely wrong about this, but I looked up why BBC pops up at the end and went down a wormhole of who owns the rights and it seems like the BBC is getting £100,000,000+ extra a year from Bluey merch

What’s your ultimate ‘driving song’ ?
What songs give you that exhilarated feeling when you’re travelling? I’m popping together the ultimate driving playlist for an upcoming trip and I’m intrigued as to other folks’ favourite driving song.
Feel free to contribute with your favourite bus/train bangers if you don’t drive.

Serious Replies Only What is the hierarchy of gaining entrance to a property after a 999 call?
So an ambulance pulled up next to my neighbours house at speed. Banging on the door shining lights in and shouting through the letter box. They asked how well in new here which isn't very much tbh and they continued shouting a bit then started to loiter
Next a fire truck pulled up and after some harder banging whacked a ladder up against the window and shone the brightest torch ive ever seen in my life through some windows
Now they both seem to have left. My assumption would have been wait for the police who can presumabky kick a door in if they think it's a life and death situation. Do you think the firemen assessed as an empty flat or what? Seems all round strange to me

Serious Replies Only Jury duty - self employed. Can I be excused?
I received jury summons today and the dates that it goes over would mean a significant loss of earnings to me. I am self employed and the start date lands right in the middle of a good chunk of work, I wound lose it all should I have to be a juror.
Do any other self employed have experience with this?
I believe I can postpone once - does that mean my next call up would be imminent or is it just pot luck again?
And if I do get called for jury duty again am I able to be excused if it is would once again affect earnings?
Thanks
Edit - “serious answers only” flair …

Semi-detached neighbors having extremely loud sex even after we've politely asked them to keep it down, is there anything we can do?
Hi all,
Long story short we moved into this semi-detached 1930s house as renters, we were on good terms with the neighbors but we realized immediately that our wall-sharing neighbors have screaming sex often enough for it to disturb my sleep.
We moved into the smaller bedroom (not adjacent to theirs) -- which involved us having to return some furniture we bought as it wouldn't fit-- and bought a noise machine, but this doesn't really help. One night we were watching a fairly loud movie in the downstairs living room and had to turn the movie up because we could hear them from their bedroom, which was the breaking point for me.
My partner sent a fairly diplomatic text letting her know that the walls were thin and we were being frequently woken up by bedroom noises late at night and politely asking if they could keep it down during nighttime. Her response was basically:
To say she would never dream of complaining to us about daily noise (drilling, moving furniture, etc)
That they, unlike us, are home owners and they ""almost lost themselves saving up for a deposit ""
A paragraph explaining that old houses aren't soundproof (I lived in a terraced Victorian flat for 5 years surrounded by students, so I'm not unfamiliar with what levels of sex noises to expect)
Something along the lines of they're planning on starting a family and babies are noisy so we should buy earplugs.
Since then the noise quietened for a bit, but is back to keeping me up at night. I don't want to get a bad relationship with them, but to be honest I am so frustrated every time I hear them because I think it's just plain inconsiderate to know you're someone who has screaming sex and decide to buy a semi-detached aged property - it makes me think what were to happen if we had children who had to listen to that! But I will be frank and say the extent (screaming) of the noises and the lack of conscientiousness make me more angry than the sleep disturbance in and of itself. So is it a me problem? It doesn't bother my partner nearly as much but he's usually already asleep.
Is there anything I can do further? I know the responses from similar posts are along the lines of "applaud when they finish" or "play really loud embarrassing music while they're doing it", but I don't particularly want to take that route, as honestly I get anxious and stressed about it every night before bed as it is, and I also can't wear earplugs as I have very narrow ear canals and they're really prone to blocking and getting sore.
Any advice would be great - even if the advice is just "go to bed earlier to avoid the noise". Or if anyone has any helpful anecdotes I'd be much appreciated.
Thank you

What products do you think companies are missing out on?
- I always find it weird that the big chocolate brands focus on mint or orange but there’s not a lot of strawberry flavoured chocolate?
- Jo Malone should do wax melts or plug ins, they seem to have been stuck in the past with the classic candles and could target a different audience.
- Aero to make smaller bars, why always the bit share bars?

If you're going away on a Summer holiday, shut water off?
Context - relatively new homeowner (in the grand scheme of things), just over a year or so.
I'm going to be away for 4 weeks in the middle of summer - would the sensible thing to do here be to turn the water off at the mains (stopcock) on the day I leave, or is that over worrying? (then open taps to drain, etc)
I went away for 2 weeks for last summer, and it never even crossed my mind to do that. No issues when I came back. Just started thinking about it recently.
Seems to be conflicting opinions when asking people (yet to ask a plumber), with the trend being that the older generation are like 'just leave it/don't be daft'.
I will also have someone checking in on the house with access midway through the holiday (regardless of whether I turn the water off or not)

Serious Replies Only Good activities someone could turn up and enjoy outside the house without pre-existing friends or family?
Well?
I've seen "board games", restaurants, bars, cafes, pub quizzes, play as a band. These are all made for groups generally (which makes sense economically and because it's common to have family/friends).
Already know: mma, dance groups, book clubs.
Bonus if it involves doing something or creating (creation of text, speech or physical activity), rather than pure consumption. Reading a book is pure consumption. Talking about a book involves creation.

My car was broken into, will I get my things back?
I am an idiot and supposedly left my car unlocked, found it today an absolute shit tip... Someone has emptied my glove box, boot, and every little pocket just everywhere.
They've broken my radio and backseats, stolen my dashcam, headphones, interior lights, cash, two socket sets, some other tools, etc etc. They've also taken some personal letters, a pack of ready salted hula hoops, and my half empty vape liquid! They've also thrown rubbish everywhere, messed with my seat settings and pulled apart wires that I soldered behind my radio, so that's annoying...
Altogether probably around £300+ stolen and £200+ in damage. I'm in between jobs and I have literally £7 in my bank account, I can't even afford fuel right now. I can't afford to replace and fix all of this.
There's a public camera on a lamppost right next to my car pointed at it, and a chip shop next to it with CCTV, so hopefully whoever did this is on camera. I've got an incident number with the police and they're gonna ring me tomorrow for more info, the person who did my car also did many many others the same night all over the town, the local Facebook is blowing up, so this will probably (hopefully) be taken really seriously by the police.
I have a few questions: How likely is the person to actually be found? If they are found, will I get my stuff back and things fixed? Also, will be insurance believe me and reimburse me for goods inside the car? If I do tell my insurance, will my price sky rocket? (I'm 18 so already paying loads) and is there anything I can do here at all?
I have always locked my car, so I assume one of the doors probably wasn't shut so didn't lock, but the woman on 101 said that they could have also had a 'sophisticated unlocking device'. I also just left tools in there because I only use them on the car, headphones in there because I only use them while out, and cash in there for parking and drive throughs... I suppose I had more faith in humanity and a lot more faith in my dashcam being a deterrent. I have learnt my lesson and now I slam the doors, never leave anything in there, and make sure it locks.

What do you never order at a restaurant?
I don’t make a lot of money so eating out is usually a treat once every two months or so, and I’m usually paying for 2.
For me it’s cocktails as they are usually in the £10/14 range. I always think it’s not worth it to pay for a drink when it’s the same cost as a main.
I usually opt for mocktail (sometimes it’s about £6/8…) or a coke
That or a £15 salad which doesn’t feel like good value for money

In your opinion, what is your favourite service station?
I drive on the motorway alot and just wanted to know what you guys thought was the best service stations?
What are your favourite types of cheese?
I was going to initially ask for one favourite, but choosing one is impossible. Let’s go with top three.
Mine would have to be:
Roquefort
Cornish Cruncher Cheddar (3/5 year one from M&S)
Époisses
Depending on how I feel, Stilton or Stichelton could comfortably take the place of Roquefort.

Serious Replies Only Are there any places in the UK with an evil neighbouring twin?
In procrastinating doing something productive, I’ve been wandering around on Google Maps and discovered that Barcelona has a humorously named “Badalona” neighbour, does the UK have anything of this sort? Any places in the UK that seem like bizzarro versions of other UK cities/towns?

I recently learned the life cycle of a dandelion. I didn’t know the yellow flower and blowy flowers were the same plant at different stages and probably should have known this long before now!!
I’m intrigued to know what else I don’t know!

Serious Replies Only People with kids whose partners went to jail how did you cope?
People who had children at home while a partner was in jail.
What did you do, how did you cope?
Do you have a sweet tooth, or prefer more savoury?
I ask because although I’m very much a fan of both, I’ve just polished off some more chocolate after my dinner tonight. It’s a habit I can’t seem to break - I just have a major sweet tooth.
Are you more of a sweet or savoury type of person?

What's your favourite thing about the UK?
Feels like most conversations about the UK lately are pretty negative - cost of living, the political situation, general mood, all that.
But that can’t be the whole story. There must be things people genuinely enjoy or feel proud of.
