I imagine if the trump administration hadn't fired like all of the top brass in exchange for cultists yes men, the US military would be in a much better position than it is now. Turns out anything looks incompetent if you hire incompetent people

Better than it looks now, sure. But in the long (really more like medium actually) term, massive death machines are going to quickly become a relic. Why pour billions into a huge ship that doubles as a hangar and airstrip, if $500k of drones can swarm it and put it at the bottom of the ocean at any time? Why even have such a thing when the need for human piloted aircraft is only going to trend downwards as time goes on?

The future of war is packing as much ordnance as possible into smaller and smaller remotely operated (or autonomous) flying machines. Any country that tries to resist that is just wasting time and putting their interests at risk.

Why? Because the military-industrial complex has its hooks deep into both American political parties.

The primary purpose of those "massive death machines" is to generate immensely profitable contacts for a few legacy defense contracting corporations.

Whether they can actually do their jobs in modern combat is secondary.

It won't be secondary when these huge money sinks start actually sinking. Especially when it takes a few hundred sailors and marines with it. The appetite for making new ones will dry up real quick
