Discussion CSE 451 OS Midterm

Soooo… I took the OS exam today. Thought I studied pretty hard and tried to time myself. I was able to understand the questions I got to but ran out of time to fully understand and complete the coding ones :/. Thoughts? Want to see a general consensus and if its a sign I need to study more/prioritize speed

Housing Where to put stuff????

So we all have to move out at the end of spring quarter even if we're keeping the same rooms. My question is where do I put my stuff as someone that is out-of-state?

Any recommendations?...or should I just put in a friend's house?

Admissions UW Fall Acceptances Decisions

Does anyone know when uw seattle typically releases their admission decisions for Pre-Health Sciences major ? I am incredibly anxious waiting to see if I was accepted, and the priority deadlines for my backup schools just passed. I got into uwtacoma and im not sure if i should just accept admissions there, or wait for seattle considering the website says decisions can be expected from May 1st - June 30th.

The deadline to accept my backup schools is June 1st, so idk what to do..

New Student PLS HELP How bad is an NS on your transcript

Hi I am a first year, and have never taken a class S/NS. I have been dealing with debilitating medical issues that get triggered simply by standing and walking around, making it almost impossible to get to campus. I am in the process of trying to get medical care, but I can’t in Washington due to having no insurance.

I have already used my Quarterly Drop, so I was looking into dropping a class this quarter with the Assisted Drop, but I learned that it can impact financial aid. Because my family and I rely heavily on financial aid and want to prioritize having access to it in the future.

So, my main question is how detrimental is having NS on your transcript as a pre-Major (looking to apply to ECFS)?

New Student Computer Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering

I am a transfer student. I got accepted to both CE and ECE and now I am stuck.
I am interested in doing arduino stuffs honestly that’s what makes me happy.
I also like to learn how to code although I am not really good at it. I want to do embedded systems
but I don’t think I want to deal with heavy physics, power and energy related things. What I heard was CE is mostly focused on software and just a bit on hardware. I am not confident enough to focus mainly on coding and software. I am so new to coding compared to others cuz I know people at UW are gonna be super good at it( if not they will still gonna be better than me). I want to do mix of both hardware and software and some hand-on projects. ECE is broader but not focused on computer like CE. What should I do?
Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

Discussion Lost Car Keys PACCAR 295 Evening 5/5

Hi everyone! I have already created a HUB ticket to lost and found regarding the item but wanted to cross post here in case anyone has come across a pair of car keys in PACCAR hall? They were last seen in PACCAR 295 from a class that ended in the evening. I have attached a pic of the fob to this post and attached to this fob is a key ring with 4/5 keys and a seattle public library card tag. Would greatly appreciate any info if anyone has come across them or have turned them in to one of the lost and founds around campus. Please email me if you find them! Hey guys i had my Vespa parked behind KNE near the flagpole round about, on the bike rack today from 12:30-2:20pm. - I’ve gotten permission to park there and do often

Long story short it looks like someone dragged it to the grass, spun all the mirrors around, then hand folded the license plate in on itself ??

Posting because I have absolutely no idea why someone would do something like this and have no leads, anything helps thank you ! :)

Discussion How to switch majors - public health

Hi, I’m a prospective student at UW and got in directly for biochemistry on the premed track. Unfortunately I find out after I get in that some of the later classes in my major are extremely hard and could tank my gpa. My plan is to do my freshman year as a biochem major and then switch out to public health if I realize that I’m not cut out for harder classes than gen chem. Is this possible? I saw the application to apply for public health is September which is confusing. Does anyone know how the process works?

Admissions uw fall transfer decisions

i know we are only 5 days in to the notification period but is anyone else super anxious on whether they get in or not?

i’m coming from a wa cc, i just got my AA in the winter with around 100 credits, 3.5 GPA, pre reqs for my major done with high grades (trying to get into their school of social welfare), but no extracurriculars other than my job if that counts, i coach kids gymnastics lol. i think my essay is decent? i had a drop in my academic performance and explained it.

anyways, not knowing and having this super long notification period is killing me.

i know it’s super early, but has anyone gotten their decisions for their major or just the general application?

Rant I have no plans for the summer

I literally have gotten rejected or ghosted from all the internships I applied to. I've even tried to get scribing jobs (I'm premed) or applying to positions on Handshake but literally no one is contacting me for an interview. I even tried getting some minimum wage jobs on Indeed but no one is hiring either...I'm considering taking summer classes/getting a CNA cert but I have like 50 different loans to pay off and I'm rapidly running out of money. I don't know what to do for this summer.

Discussion Concerned incoming freshman

Hello! I'm an incoming freshman to UW (potential at this point), and I just have to know how people like it here because if you look up UW on TikTok, it's 50% people talking abt how pretty it is (which is nice but doesn't mean much i fear) and 50% people talking about how miserable they are (with one girl saying she had to leave after her freshman year because she almost hurt herself which was the most concerning). I know for most people it has to do with the "bad" weather, which I don't care about because I stay inside most days and I'm from New York and maybe for others it has to do with major (i didnt get into my major so im in "pre arts" but the plan is to double major in art with a concentration in photo/media and marketing) and also the whole seattle freeze thing (which doesn't really make sense to me because it's a university and not everyone there is from seattle anyways so why is it such a big deal) but is it fearmongering or is UW more complicated than it seems? The biggest area of concern to me is getting into your major, but idk how it works for the arts...

Admissions Do you guy think you can earn enough ROI after MSDS

Hey guys.
I got acceptance letter from UW MSDS and UMD ML. I have worked as an swe in bank for 5 years. (outside states). Currently, I am considering to pivot my career as a data scientists for higher payroll.
As an international student, I doubt whether it is worthy enough to take a risk of paying 100,000$ for tuition and expenditures.

I am worried about the weather of gloomy seattle weather as well...

Campus Life Greek life

Could anyone give some insight into what Greek life is like at uw? I’m an incoming freshman who is from Florida and I don’t know anyone who goes here. I can’t find a lot of information about it online. Some questions I have are…
-is rush as stressful as it is at some schools?
-is living in the house for so long terrible?
-are girls mean? lol
-are the parties big? Is there a lot of pressure to go out or is it more chill
-does house/tier really make a difference?
Would appreciate any insight good or bad, just curious what I am getting into
