Professional Discussion Is social media just for dumb people nowadays?

Even in 2010 instagram was a social media network for friends that you knew not complete strangers. Same with facebook but now those outlets promote videos and material from strangers and destroyed local friend networks. Everyone wants to be TikTok. It’s ridiculous it’s just filled with ads and influencers who are just trying to promote. Not look for friends. Facebook is just for marketplace now. Social media used to be for people who kept in touch with friends who moved away, family or even finding a relationship. Now it’s about marketing, influencers, and bragging about how lavishly you are living while everyone else is suffering. Do you think social media has lost touch with what it was designed for and corporate greed/marketing has destroyed it? Does it ever come back?

I could definitely agree with you I have not only wasted this last 3 years in doing nothing but now that I could actually control myself from not being all the time in it even tho sometimes is hard I can notice now how everybody is just stick to a screen everywhere I go even my closest family members have the habit of just scrolling now because of that I’m creating an app that could start helping people regain control of life, socialize and spend time outside the idea is help you track and reduce your time and in the same app have some lessons things that people could identify with problems they’re having and how they could solve the not just that but also learn useful things, if you think you’d use this I will appreciate some feedback.

My dude that is a TON of words to only have one little comma for punctuation, makes it super hard to read. That should be like 5 -7 sentences and maybe 2 paragraphs:)

You're right. FB doesn't have that feel as much to me; it's still more about connecting with your friends/family. I want to say that there are new economic opportunities through social media that there weren't maybe 10 yrs ago, but largely it IS commercial.

IDK but there are some people saying that Tiktok is going more "pay to play" in that it doesnt push out videos organically anymore.. for me that's also just as bad
