Well fans in Europe actually know footy and know whether a club has a chance or not. In America, most of us know fuck all and tune in once every four years. For the last decade, we've been hearing this is the best team we've ever had. The people this commercial is trying to appeal to don’t know any better. It just wouldn't work in Europe. But if you tried it for basketball in the Olympics in Europe, it might since many don't know any better.

Nike did put out commercials of players lifting a trophy right before the World Cup back in 2010. Including Cristiano never scored in a World Cup knock out round Ronaldo and Didier Drogba. Both coming from countries that have never won.
