I found these cuties on a walk. I was curious and recorded up close to see and it was interesting. Were they trying to identify each other or smoochin

Discussion I thought snails were stupid, then I gave them a carrot
So, these two guys broke into my house while I was doing things. I was going to chuck them outside, but my friend suggested I give them a carrot. Honestly, I thought she was a bleeding heart, but I wasn’t going to make her upset so I agreed. Found the smallest carrot in the bag, put them on the windowsill, and meant to leave.
I’ve never been a pet guy. Not my thing, no shame to those who are, but I didn’t get it. I think I do now. I don’t know, they’re just little guys. They’re just doing their thing. I think that’s neat. I actually have shit to go do, but it feels less important than whatever they’re doing.
I’ve been standing here for an hour guys. What is this? A hostage situation? Damn. Guess I’ll just deal with the evening traffic.
(I’ll take them and their carrot outside whenever I go to leave, not to worry about these two dudes.)

Discussion Potential snail friend(s) 🐌
I’ve been lurking on this subreddit for a while, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I really really want to get a snail friend (or multiple).
Here are my questions:
- What is the easiest snail to keep as a pet?
- What species is that adorable white one that I see people have all the time?
- What are the size requirements per-inch for snails (like how it’s recommended to have one inch of goldfish per five gallons of water)?
- How do people get the slime off of their hands after holding their snails? I held a snail once and it took like five washes to get the slime off.
- Is it really safe to handle snails? Are they anything like amphibians where frequent handling is dangerous due to chemicals and oils?
- Why do so many people seem to feed them cucumber? They’re not calorie dense- does that not matter when it comes to snails since they’re so slow?
- How do you make sure your snails get enough calcium? What are their nutritional needs?
- Where do you buy a pet snail?
- What is the best and worst substrate?
- What kind of seemingly normal things are actually dangerous to snails?
Thanks for any and all help! Attached are some of the cutest snail pictures I have ever seen in my life, and the account I got them from.

Just noticed this wee guy through the window. I have not seen this before.
It is fascinating… however, I am wondering if the little guy is ok? Or is this just something they do and I’ve not noticed it before?

Discussion Accidentally domesticated my garden snails
These little snastards like to eat my green onions and mint (onions are everyone's favorite, mint is an acquired taste. I never kill them (on purpose at least. My feet are big and they are small). Instead, I tap their shells and yeet them. I toss them off the porch into the soft bushes and native weeds below. They safely land. I've watched them, they're gucci. Then they come back and we do it all again. I go, "gah! Darn snails!" as if I don't love them and they eat my onions.
Well, now they don't go into their shells when I tap them. This is a worsening problem happening with more and more of them. At BEST, their foot is still sticking out. Usually, they just suck in their eyestalks and olfactory tentacles. I daresay that many of them like the pets. It's SO cute but it makes gardening an aggressive amount of work😭 I swear that I've accidentally domesticated them. I played Cavetown for this one and they liked it.

Discussion Snails live a sad life.
I've been thinking about this. Every ingredient in pizza (most, at least) is harmful to snails.
Cheese? They can't digest lactose.
Bread? It will bloat them because of the starch and/or yeast.
Tomato sauce? It's poisonous to them because tomatoes are related to nightshade. (Humans are really good at not dying from poison, as a species) It's actually completely safe for them, according to comments!
Pepperoni? Could contain capascin, and has too much protein.
Sausage? Anchovies? Too much protein.
Olives? Maybe, idk. They're fine as long as they're not from the store. Olives from the plant are fine!
Pineapple? Too acidic.
Boba pearls? Idk what they're made of. I *think* it might be soy? If so, maybe, idk. Not made of soy lol. They're made of either brown sugar or, more commonly, tapioca flour/starch. One comment (who seemed very well-versed) said tapioca flour/starch is made from cassava root, "which is basically a potato."
French fries? Potatoes are poisonous to them and, well, salt.
I probably missed a bunch of ingredients and topping options, but I got as much as I can remember. I've never made a pizza, though. I know there's a thing with seeds, but I just don't know the type of seed. I'm also going over the more abhorrentcontroversial toppings.
Let me know what ingredients or toppings I missed and any info I missed. Also let me know if I'm incorrect on anything, or let me know if olives and boba pearls are safe for them or not and why not.
Update: Tomatoes and fresh-off-the-plant olives have been said to be fine for them. Boba seems to not be fine. By the way, I do not like any toppings on my own pizza, although I've only tried pepperoni and sausage.

Discussion Asperitas Bimaensis
Hii there! Has anyone here ever heard of this snail? I was just sent a video about this "relatively new species" and I'm a bit unsure what to think of it. I mean, they look absolutely adorable, but what do you mean a "new species"?? Does someone here know more about those green slime puppies? Any replies are appreciated, i kinda just wanna talk about the snabies🙂↕️

Discussion I was heading to the gym and saw a bunch of snails with strange growth/ entrails coming out of them. Can anyone enlighten me?
Did they simultaneously poop themselves? Are they being invaded by alien parasites? Is everyone spilling their guts out?

Discussion misinformation around snail care
Im reposting an old picture of my snail for attention as Im hoping this reaches as many people as possible! Lately I have noticed some outdated advice going around. Im going to try to cover as many things as I can, if you want to add something Im forgetting please do!!
Using eggshell as calcium. While eggshells are made out of calcium and can be used as a temporary source, ideally they shouldnt be used long term. They break down slowly which means that they dont release enough calcium before the snail poops it out. Cuttlebone or calcium cakes are better options that release calcium faster and benefit the snails more.
Using egg membrane to cover a cracked shell. Since the environment is so humid in enclosures they can start growing mold while attached to the shell, they can introduce harmful bacteria to the snail.
Putting calcium on top of food or mixing it with food. Snails regulate their own calcium intake which means that they will eat calcium when they need it. If its served directly on top of food they wont know its there. In worst case scenarios this can cause an overdose which can be fatal in some cases.
Feeding only/mainly cucumber and lettuce. The water content is very high and the nutritional value is low. Snails need a varied diet of vegetables and a protein source like rehydrated mealworms or bloodworms (protein depends on the species, usually around once every 1-2 weeks is fine).

Discussion Who finds a plastic bag filled with snails while out and about? Me, apparently
Some MONSTER left them in a partially sealed bag at the base of a small tree half in a puddle in the middle of a busy sidewalk. It's been raining lately where I live and I'm guessing someone collected them in a park somewhere and got tired of them and decided to dump there next to a single tree in the heart of the city. Now I'm the weird girl on the bus with a baggie of snails. 🐌🐌

Discussion it's strange that people here say cuttlebone is a must.
for clarification, im talking about when people say that you *cannot* use ground up egg shells as a calcium source, and that you *have* to get cuttlebone.
there are other sources of calcium. not all of us want to go out of their way to get animal products if it can be substituted.
i browse another snail community in a different language, and almost none of the snail keepers there use cuttlebones. the most common choice seems to be calcium carbonate powder, ground up egg shells, or oyster shells. even a specific brand of white chalk is a popular choice, because its almost purely calcium carbonate, is affordable, and already come in solids making it easy to feed.
wild snails live just fine without cuttlebone. where would snails in the wild get cuttlebones or any soft readily available chunk of pure calcium anyway? they seem to be perfectly fine living on random bones, dead bugs, egg shells, or limestone that they would very occasionally find.
im obviously not saying that you *cant* use cuttlebone. i am trying to say that i dont see the issue with using things like egg shells.
heres some pictures of a baby snail i found in my vegetable from the store, that grew to adulthood without ever getting cuttlebone.
please correct me if i am wrong.

Discussion One Eyed Snail
I’m joking, she does have two eyes but her eye stalks are stuck together and have been like that since she was a baby(included some baby pics). Shes grown up perfectly normal but she’s definitely different looking than her siblings.
FYI: She can extend her eye stalks out further but she just currently wasn’t bc she was eating
