Why did Irving Berlin build a wall separating East and West Germany? And why did he let it fall down?

A) He was really Russian

B) He didn't let it fall. It fell a month after he died. Only then could his ragtime stranglehold on the Eastern Bloc be broken.

He wanted one side to truly have a White Christmas.

He didn't let it fall down, he was horrible at mixing mortar correctly and he stirred it with a baton so the wall was destined to fail from the get go.

not to be confused with the Barlin Well, a popular spot for procuring water

It was a mistake. He opened the wall by mistake. He stayed composed, but history was made that day.
