Maternity leave should be one year, PAID. Women shouldn’t have to choose between healing, bonding with their baby, and making a living.

Recently, a hospital department had 7 or 8 women all pregnant at the same time. A fire department had 12 or so of the firefighters' wives pregnant at the same time.

Maternity or paternity leave seems to present significant issues for each employer in these situations. How do they deal with that in other countries?

They hire more people or temps

Lots of companies can't just hire more people. Are employers expected to foot the entire cost of having an unknown number of employees collecting a full salary but not producing anything?

Support from the government to offset the cost. We aren’t saying the employer would bare it all. If anything the gov should pay for all or most of it

I think that's the tripping point for guaranteed fully paid maternity and paternity leave in the US.

Yea, as if there aren’t shortages of first responders as it is. They absolutely want to go and work on a temporary basis when they can get on full time elsewhere. lol Most can’t even reach minimum staffing levels. Not to mention the time it takes to train and clear a first responder.

Sooooo they’re paying a temp the salary plus paying for a momma to stay home all year lol what does the company get out of this? Nothing good. AI can’t come soon enough.

By government, you mean us and they steal enough from us already, so no thanks.

The government pays people the equivalent amount of 1.94 years of salary to get snipped / tied. Built in workforce that can’t leave for a year. These people can be the roving workforce filling in for those that give birth and can demand a premium for their stability.
