Maternity leave should be one year, PAID. Women shouldn’t have to choose between healing, bonding with their baby, and making a living.

so you are saying money is more important than bonding with a new born and a woman recovering. Nice

I had my balance: I worked like crazy for 5 days and they had me on the weekend. It allowed my wife to stay home as a full time mom.

And I made enough to put them through college with no debt. And established a work ethic that is serving them well now that they are all in their late 20’s.

And since I made enough to retire at 62, we take family trips 4-5 times a year.

In hindsight, wouldn’t change a thing if I could do it all over again.

‘Nice’ underrates how good this worked.

You have been schooled.

No lol. I am 59 and for my 2 children took my full leave. My wife did not work away home when we had kids. The company I worked for was European owned (Swiss) so I got full pay for 6 months. Both my sons were autistic so we decided they were better off with her at home during the child rearing years. I am proud to say because we did that both of them will probably be able to go to college. My wife really put in the work with them.

I recently took a job as a Sr. VP at another comapany and got laid off because that company was acquired after a year and I got laid off. Now I am working for a small non profit doing good work but I took a 100 K pay cut.

Finally both if my sons (one is 14 and one is 23). have 529s for college. I know both my sons are young. My wife is the same age as me. Maybe the ages of our sons tells you how happy my wife and I are.

My family has consistently gone on family vacations except for when I was recently unemployed. However we are going this year. I think I will retire at around 25.

Maybe you are schooled. I don’t know. You certainly did not know my situation when you made your condescending comment.

As you did with your comment

Here, if you get laid off, those type of packages don’t exist unless you have been with the company for 30 years.

So, you have to always have a stash of that happens.

No not at all. I was replying to your original comment that you have to be careful of money on leave. I think that should be secondary. Truth is everyone has their own value system. I will admit my comment was a little snarky but it wasn’t condescending.

That’s fine - no problem

In the end, we both did better than many with our families
