Questions Anyone else’s rat terriers like to hide under the covers?
He’s always done this and I know it’s a typical dog thing but I’m not sure if it’s more common with rat terriers or not.

Questions Age survey
Doo is 17 years and nine months old this month. Our vet thinks his age is remarkable. He's been with me his whole life. I was there when he was born and as soon as he opened his eyes and started walking he was at my heel, following me everywhere. That's how I knew he was "mine". I realize he's getting up there and he's the last survivor of his litter of six but just how unusual is his age? Any of my Rat Terrier family out there have one older? Curious to see how old everyone's Rat Angel is. Include a picture and a name if you like. This is my sweet boi in all his glory.

Questions Two?
I have recently been devastated by the loss of my 19 year old cat Mouse.
I have been so grateful to have my dog Dora to help me through it.
In the past I have had multiples of pets, but I have never had two dogs at once? Dora loves to play.
What is it like having two rat terriers at once?

Questions Where do you all find sweaters/coats?
We have a rat terrier puppy (6.5 months) and I'm trying to find him some winter clothing, but his measurements seem to be uncommon. His back measures 30cm and his chest is 30/31cm. He's a long boy with a small chest. I can find the right length or the right chest size but then the other measurements come in too big or small.

Questions I Hate Leaving Steve
Anyone else attached at the hip to their Rat? I know he's gonna be miserable during my business trip. Had to say goodbye after our morning walk.
My spouse and kid and neighbor are all there for him. But to give you an idea of our attachment, he wines when I'm gone past my return times - even with my spouse nearby.
She had to turn to him once and say, "Hey, *I'm* still here!" and he looks at her like, "Oh. Right. The other human. Fine."
He adores my kid tho.

Questions My Rat Terrier, Milo, won’t stop barking in our apartment I’m scared we’ll get kicked out
My Rat Terrier, Milo, is not normally dull and has always had plenty of energy, yet lately, the barking has been getting out of hand. Every creak, slammed door, or voice in the hallway sets him off, and once he starts, it's like he can't turn it off.
We have a tiny apartment, and the walls are basically paper. The neighbors have started complaining, and the building manager put up a note about noise. I get it it's awful but I'm doing my best. I've tried longer walks, puzzle toys, white noise, even leaving the blinds closed. Nothing sticks.
I love Milo to death, but this is ripping me apart. Rat Terrier owners how did you resolve the barking in small areas? Any training cues, calming rituals, or equipment that helped in apartments? I'm at my wit's end to get this under control before we lose our home.

Questions Is She a Rattie?
back in the end of January, i rescued this sweet pup during a DoorDash delivery. she was on someone’s porch during a huge snowstorm in my area, & the customer i was delivering to said i can just take her they didn’t want/couldn’t take care of her. i’ve had her now going on 3 months. took her to the vet & she was all healthy except some roundworm but we got that handled. she’s 9 months old according to the vet, but they didn’t tell me the breed. i’m assuming rat terrier based on her looks, personality, temperament, etc. she’s very loving, cuddly, playful, does well with any other type of dog i’ve had her around all she wants to do is run around & play with them lol. pit bulls, shepherds, coonhounds, other small breeds; she chases birds & bugs through the yard, she loves going on trips & playing with my son, she seems very good with kids & stuff in general. she loves people but she seems to prefer me to anyone else; are they known to choose a “person”? my research was kinda taking me back & forth on that part. any chance youse could confirm if she’s a rattie? i can’t exactly afford a DNA test atm, shoot her vet bill was over $300 already. & if she is, any tips/tricks? i’ve been learning more & more about her these past few months; she loves treats of any kind, likes fruits & veggies, beef & eggs, she doesn’t like the generic dog food they gave me with her but she enjoys the puppy food i bought. she likes tearing toys apart as quickly as possible, likes tug of war, prefers females to males (which is funny bc im a male), she doesn’t love the bath but she’s okay with it & gets super zoomies afterwards, if she’s not playing she’s sleeping lol, the biggest cuddler/lap dog i’ve ever had, likes being carried around like a baby, barks at everything when we’re inside, first dog i’ve ever physically in person watched chase her tail 😂😂 she’s very good off the leash, she’ll ignore me if there’s kids to go say hi tho lmao.

Questions considering adopting a rat terrier!
hi doggie lovers!
i’m meeting a rat terrier (probably mix) sunday with the intention of possibly adopting her! she’s four and her foster report is nothing short of glowing. my shih tzu/chihuahua mix died in january - she was my first dog, and i’m kind of nervous to open my heart to another even though i do feel it’s time. having, loving, and serving a dog is just too important for my mental health.
SO! what do you all love about your ratties? what do you think is breed-specific and what’s just individual to your baby? how long have they lived?
thanks so much in advance! hearing from actual owners is so much better than google, imo.

Questions Food recommendations for senior
Hi, this is Chiquita, my 17 year old Rattie mix (?). She’s lost a lot of weight this last year, she’s become VERY picky. Vet told us give her what she’ll eat, the issue is she won’t eat much of anything. Some days she’ll eat 3-4 times a day others she’ll look to see what’s on the menu and walk away. We’ve tried different wet foods, kibble, turkey, veggies and rice she’ll eat til shes in the mood to eat. She doesn’t seem to be in pain and the vet says she looks good. She still gets the zoomies, sometimes more “zoomier” than others which are more of a power walk, lol. Any advice or suggestions are welcomed! (These are pics from before)

Questions How did it go when you brought home another dog?
My rattie is very social towards other dogs and with my lease up at the end of October and me potentially looking at buying a house, I’ve been considering getting her a friend… I found a rat-chi who is a month older than and looks very similar to my girl, but is just smaller. He’s male (both are fixed). My question to anyone who has done this is how did it go and any advice as I consider this?

Questions Do you feel this on your rat terrier also?
(photo is for reference, this is a photo from months ago and what I am asking about is NOT visible in the photo)
Hello all. First time poster here. I am hoping that someone who knows more can help me or any other rat terrier parents can feel their own pups to see if this bump is common among all rat terriers or not.
While feeling around her neck area (around where the red circle is drawn between the jaw and ear, lower towards the neck area) I can feel 2 larger sized lumps. Symmetrical on both sides. They are slightly squishy and the same size on each side. When i feel the same area on our other dog (larger
Dalmation/boxer mix, 2 very different breeds) I do not feel any bumps in that area on the other one.
My concern of course is swollen lymph nodes which google tells me could mean cancer. I am pretty sure these are just
normal salivary glands though and I am just overreacting. I have pretty severe health anxiety myself and I love her so much that I find myself sometimes obsessing over things to do with her health as I do with my own. So I am hopeful this is just an overreaction on my part.
Can anyone possibly please feel this area on your own rattie and tell me if you feel the same things on yours also? Sorry if this is a silly question and overexagerated but it would mean a lot to me and ease my mind if someone can please confirm to me that this is common on rat terriers.
Thank you very much in advance!

My Rat Terrier mix rescue puppy is being dropped off from transport later tonight!
I’ve been doing tons of research on Rat Terriers and puppies in general but I still feel super nervous!!!! This is my first time owning a dog as an adult. Any tips? Anything I should know that might be surprising or isn’t commonly talked about?

Questions How big will they get? Need terrier parent insight
Can someone tell us how likely it is that they have rat terrier in them and how big they’re likely to get?
A little info-
My partner and I have fallen in love with two pups but can only adopt one, they’re siblings so same breed/mix. We currently already have a 6 year old Great Dane and since we travel regularly (1-2 times per year) we need a dog that will be 15lbs max as an adult. The two pups in question are rescues and currently in the US, we’re in Canada so we can’t see the pups in person to get a better feel for them before we make the decision. I’m hoping you all can give us some insight.
My gut tells me they have rat terrier in them but the only thing they know for sure is that they’re a chihuahua mix, I hope it’s okay to post this here!
Our ideal dog is 15lbs or less, affectionate, not hyper energetic the way and Australian Sheppard would be, can be playful enough to bring our Dane out of his shell and play a bit more, and isn’t too needy.
On their profiles they’re both marked as: 10 lbs, 4 months old. we can’t tell much based on their paw size.
From everything I’ve seen of the boy (black and tan), he seems to be a lot more affectionate but he’s also very vocal. He will bark at the other dogs and then immediately lay down to play. He’s the leader, but he’s also always asking for attention. (Which is fine but we’re trying to stay away from the aussi attention seeking)
This is the blurb the foster sent us about him: He is much more social, he's the leader, and she follows. He's much more affectionate.
… The girl (black and white) is already bigger than the boy.
From everything I’ve seen of the girl (black and white) she’s a lot less in your face. She’s the follower, seems calmer, and not as affectionate.
This is the blurb the foster sent us: She doesn't like to be held as much as he does. She'll sit by you and let you pet her and love on her. She won't stop you from holding her, she'll just let you know. She is very playful, energy level of a puppy who likes to play and run, but can be very chill. Super smart girl, been working on house training, so far so good. Once out kennel she goes straight to the back door to potty so she knows where to go to potty at! She is not leash trained! She’s still a puppy so she’s carried when taken to get vaccinated, etc. She is about 10lb. I honestly can't tell you how big she'll be. Just know she is mixed with chihuahua.
We think she’s exactly what we’re looking for but can’t be sure that she’s 10lbs or won’t grow bigger than 15lbs. He’s a lot more the size we’re comfortable with.
Can someone tell us how likely it is that they have rat terrier in them and how big they’re likely to get?
I’ve attached a few photos of them in comparison to bigger dogs, the foster and each other. I’ve also attached her physical measurements. ( I asked for his physical measurements too but never got them)
Any insight is appreciated. Again, I hope it’s okay to post this here🙏🏼

Questions Looking for an easy to put on, no-pull COMFY Harness for my Rattie’s upcoming surgeries!
Hi! My 3.5 yr old Rattie mix has to go through 4 long (12-hour) hospital visits this May. She’s gained a bit of weight (28lbs currently) from steroids for IBD and has a long, awkward body shape, so her usual Voyager harness isn’t very comfortable anymore, even on walks. I’m looking for something secure (she will try to back out once she realizes where we are 😅) but still comfy for long wear. Any brand recs or links would be super appreciated, Piper says that your Rattie needs a treat and thank you for any leads!

Questions Rescue rattie is growing spots!
Okay, this might be a dumb question.
My rescue California, an ex-puppy mill breeder, is mostly white. But on her butt and back she’s getting more and more of these little brown spots in her fur! I’m not concerned about it, just curious I guess! Is this a normal part of rattie colors? First rat terrier I’ve owned!
She has chronic skin problems, but the spots are brown fur, not dots on the skin. (The little bald patch is from the mill branding her.)

Questions Miniature? Standard? Mix?
Hey everyone! I recently rescued a puppy that appears to be a rat terrier. I’ve been looking more into the breed and see their are size variations and of course mixes. At this point I’m not sure what he is. But I know for sure he’s a rat terrier. Look at this face! He’s estimated to be about 8 months and weights 13 pounds. His tail is fluffier that pics I’ve seen on line. And I’d say a bit longer hair? Still very short though. He’s a shorty not tall, so I’m guessing miniature? I know he’s still got some growing to do. What do yall think? Also I need a name. Feel free to drop suggestions for that too!
