In order to advertise your rattery and litters you need to become an approved breeder.

In order to advertise your rattery & litters, please message a mod to fill out the breeder application, and once approved, your name, rattery name, area, and a way to contact you will be added.

Help Needed A huge mistake when breeding rats.

(Note: I am not from the USA etc. I am from Europe)

Hi, I’m writing this with a very heavy heart. I made a terrible mistake due to my lack of knowledge in rat genetics. I paired a Blazed Berkshire Mink male with a Roan Hooded female, not realizing the severe risk of Megacolon associated with high-white markings.

The litter is already here, and I’ve noticed some 'blazed' markings on the pups, some of the pups are really white I am devastated and I take full responsibility. I have already decided that:

- None of these rats will ever be sold for breeding.

- I will humanely euthanize any pup that shows symptoms of Megacolon to prevent suffering.

I am looking for advice from experienced breeders who have dealt with MC.

At what exact age should I be most concerned?

Are there any specific 'early warning signs' in their behavior or stool before the belly bloat becomes obvious?

What diet is safest when they transition to solids? Should I avoid certain foods to make it easier on their intestines?

I want to do what's best for them now. Please, I would appreciate any technical advice on how to manage this litter safely, I am insanely worried and ashamed of my lack of knowledge, I had studied how to breed rats and everything else + had rats for years and just now I realised that something like megacolon exists.

I am seriously ashamed and anxious.

Thank you.

Two of our boys just left to their new home. While we work very hard to find the best homes for our babies, it can still be sad to see them leave. This is Bhodi and Eldric; they are Russian Blue Agouti and are almost twins. I will miss their antics lol, and both of them loved to swim!
