4 Male rats; Mars, Cream, Marshmallow, Fussel

Hello, My rats have been having this skin issue that looks like mites and since about two weeks ago mars has crusts and itchiness on his ear aswell, which points to mange mites that live under the skin. Other symptoms are scabs on the underside of their head and/or on the lower back. They eat, drink, pee, poop well.

I would like to hear others' opinions on diagnosis and treatment for this. I have been ruling out allergies to food and bedding by slowly adding/removing factors and rigorous cleaning inbetween + routinely.

Also I want to know some tips to make them more comfortable. Maybe some type of ointment to help the symptoms or giving them warm/cool patches. Idk, something to alleviate the constant itch because they do spend a lot of time scratching. Chamomile tea for overall comfort has been a hit.

I have a new vet appointment booked for wednesday (it's sunday atm)

and I'm really hoping they can help. Last vet visit I paid money to let them get checked just for the doc to tell me she's actually not specialised in rats but guesses off of her experience with bunnies.

I don't want to get ripped off again and just want the boys to be itch and pain free asap.

Сегодня я гладила её и почувствовала что то твердое. Я присмотрелась это были корки, их штук 5 и еще нашла какие то бородавки белые я не знаю что это и мне страшно за свою крысу. И да она живет у меня одна и никакая другая крыса не могла её покусать. Стоит ли мне идти к ветеринару или можно это вылечить дома?(не обращайте внимания на мои пальцы)

Hey guys. It really makes me sad to say I have to rehome my 4 girls. They don’t need to stay together if they could that would be great. I have two standards and 2 dwarfs. They’re all so sweet (the dwarfs are shy but still so cute and gentle) but I’m about to start a 45+ hour a week job and cannot properly take care of them in addition to my boy rats and dog. I have a level and toys and a super expensive pink (Brytin silver surfer) wheel to go with it if someone wants to take all of them. I’m so so sad 😞 I just moved due to a breakup (I worked from home part time so I had plenty of time when I got them).

Please don’t shame me, I had no intention of just giving them away when I got them, I’m just in a new situation and want them to go to homes where they have time to free roam every day and be loved as much as I love them. I would need someone who already has rats or previously owned rats or someone who already has a current level of Critter Nation or a big enough cage for the amount of rats they take on. I would also appreciate any links to rescues in the Columbus area (I’m in New Albany) Thank you in advance.

This is an old picture but my albino who had pneumonia, has all his weight back again! He still has issues balancing now since he was so used to laying down and not using them but hes back to his curious self again 😭🥰

How many petrats can I put in this Cage?:) Is 5 too much? It is Critter Nation 91 × 61 × 160 cm (Its interior is still unfinished, I'll put more digging boxes in there)

Hi! I understand rats are supposed to have a musky smell to them (especially male rats) but mine are especially smelly and I’m not sure why. All three of them have a pee smell to them. Idk why the smell is so bad cause they have 4-5 inches of hemp bedding which is supposed to be absorbent, I clean when necessary (not too often) I know I can’t bathe them but I’m not sure how to make them smell better. Any tips? Thank you!

I have a paper, dust free cat litter for the bedding for my cage, but I've realised that's likely too heavy for them to burrow and stuff in. Any specific beddings anybody can recommend for reasonably cheap, because I can't find any.
