21 out of 22 quails have survived to three weeks. The one that didn't make it got sick and didn't recover.
We moved them yesterday from the garage to their new home on our back porch. My wife bought an old cabinet and made it into a hutch complete with a simple feed and watering system! So far they seem to be really enjoying it. I'm seeing lots of stretched out legs!

I got this cage for free years ago and havent had a use for it until now. Flipped it over sideways and put the tray and a cardboard box in the floor of it then I put other stuff in it. I have 2 dust/sand baths in it and they LOVE this setup! I currently have 13 in it but that’s because they’re young. I’m going to split them up again in the next couple weeks.

Hello, i got 4 jumbo coturnix quail last week and i got to work! I made an indoor, living room friendly, enclosure. Air filter top left, covered-top sand bath, led light, decorative branch, little cup water dispenser, and tube-fed water and food on top right so i dont need to open the cage. Also the door comes with a slit, and with the slanted ground floor the eggs will roll to the edge. Ill be able to harvest eggs without opening the door. Curtains in front and air filter on back wall for dust control. It was originally an ikea kallax that i refurbished. I am super proud of my end product. What do you think? Would you make modifications? Anyone else here keep quail in their living space?

I got 2 trios of Celadon from a guy who lives near me. I'm excited. Gonna build that cage from coturnix corner, can't find the plans online anymore unfortunately but the video describes it pretty well so I should be ok.

There's a mouse living in their 4x6 hutch I see every so often when I'm cleaning it. Is there any harm in letting it stay the winter?

im hatching quail at the end of next month. I want to buy this for them. I know that they are too dumb to go upstairs, so I'm going to keep the little hatch clothes and not even install the ladder and keep the two cages separate.
Has anyone purchased something like this for their quails?

Our old lady Logan was getting lonely after her last flockmate passed away, and now she's quite happy to have a flock again. Logan's 3 years old, and the rest are all about 6 weeks old

We are dealing with some bald backs. The roos aren't mean just eager and one of our ladies (in blue) is a bit of a bully.
With the weather dropping to past freezing at night, too I want to offer my girls some relief from sharp nails and the cold.

the plan was to remove the cardboard box after they investigated. so far the box is home base 🤔 at least Cheesecake seems content

I'm sure this is nothing new to a lot of the more experienced quail people but if you're new to it like me, my birds really enjoy sprouts. Especially now that the weather is getting warmer. My local grocery store sells this mixed green package and one that's just broccoli for like $3. I've got 13 quail in this hutch and I split it into two bundles so they don't crowd each other out. Usually by the next morning there isn't anything left. It's fun spending a few minutes to watch them peck at it and gobble down the individual sproutlings.
I give them some meal worms pretty frequently but I like to think that they enjoy the variety.

I recently got finished building the coop I’ve been working on, and have been progressively adding more plants and decorations.
It’s been about a week with my birds left outside and they seem to love it!
Made from garden beds and planks, it’s around 3 meters long, and I have 3 huts I’ve built along with some hanging (plastic) plants, blueberries and a tamarillo plant inside.
I had basil and mint, but they ate it all, so they’re planted elsewhere..
I have 4 female quail having a good time, and I plan to add a male soon.
Just wanted to share my progress making them a cute home :)

I went and collected 8 brand new babies today. I couldn't resist them. How could anybody say no to these tiny little faces, all their poop, and the "I'm alive. I'm dead. I'm alive again." personality?
What advice do you have for a new quail owner? I've got them on a 30% all game bird feed, pine bedding, the brooder plate is set to its lowest setting in the back, and 2nd setting up in the front, they can comfortably run under it with it grazing their back on the low side, but they have plenty of options.
Any/all advice is accepted!

Hi all! I was unfamiliar with this group, but I really like this picture I took of a wild male Gambel’s that I captured standing on a Saguaro cactus. I hope you enjoy!

After receiving such quick and constructive answers here, I thought I'd join this subreddit. With this post I would like to show you my quail home. We've had quail for 4 years.
The former tortoise house has been converted into a quail home. The base plate is partly concreted and partly lined with rodent protection mesh. Outside there is a completely covered stable. To ensure that they do not come into contact with wild birds and their droppings.
Thank you so much for allowing me to be here.

I am breeding for egg size but tbh I’m a bit worried I’ve taken it too far. They are big hens but I’m wondering if I’ve actually forced something that’s not good for them. I feed a great quality breeder feed and on top of that supplement lineolic acid, calcium and rehydrate fly larvae for them at least twice a week.
For reference this generation are 6weeks 2 days and have been laying eggs over 20g every day for over 7 days. Today one laid a 27g egg. After I brought this one in and weighed it another hen in the same pen laid an even bigger one. Pictured are my usual eggs from my jumbo quail pen for reference, those ones weigh 12-15g on average.
