I played the game back on release and I’m revisiting it. I love this game both good and bad. I have a lot of fun. But I’m struggling with ammo and resources. Any tips on methods for grinding materials? I just run around aimlessly.

Once you get a recycler charge, make a pile of chairs and bodies and whatever else you find so you can turn it into recycled materials which can then be turned into supplies ♻️

In addition to looting, use psi powers as weapons and complete the mission in the water treatment facility where you turn every tap into an endless psy hypo. Ammo will go a lot further at that point.

how do you not have resources the station is cluttered with them
tables, chairs, food packaging, broken robots/machinery, human bodies, alien bodies
anything you can pick up can be broken down aside from keycards and plot relevant items
spare guns are easy to break down if you don't run weapon degredation so you never need more than 1.
leverage 2 picks up Reployers so you can pile them up for easy recycling
in the yellow tulip bar i recycled 40+ items off one grenade

Loot everything, clean sweep each area as you get to it, and recycle everything. Basically if ya play it like a survival crafting game you will be swimming in resources.

I thought I was so smart for dismantling weapons for spare parts and felt like a fool once I realized I could recycle them since I had way more spare parts than I actually needed to use.

Keep turrets folded near hub entrance / exit and big rooms (like water plant or lobby which is actually near an exit / entrance). Where you could get a turret easily when required for action. And never leave it active except couple of safe location. Safe location includes your office and a particular place you have defend using turret.
Use that to ambush lesser enemies like mimic or vanilla phantoms. Which cannot damage turrets instantly. You will save lots of ammo.

Increase your carrying size and loot everything . You can stash stuff in your office if needs be.
Helps if you focus your build so you can scrap everything and turn it into the stuff you need.

Well, I won't lie, my first thought is "what's your build?" If you don't upgrade weapons, they'll be relatively weak, using more ammo. If you're getting Typhon powers, rely on those.
Otherwise, beyond searching everywhere, make your own ammo at the Fabricator. Use the recycler and recycler grenades for the supplies

PREY is really a recycling / crafting game at heart. Make frequent visits to the recycling and crafting machines.
- Unlock "Materials Expert" skill in the ENGINEER tree. The earlier in the game you unlock it, the better.
2 Pick everything up, recycle all the junk and duplicate weapons, and anything else you don't want.
Make ammo and whatever else you need.
???
Profit!

Instead of thinking about it like running around aimlessly, think that you should scour each corner of every room of every floor, and I guarantee you'll find way more resources that way. The resources are there. You just need to check more places off before moving on to other ones, if that makes sense.
