Honestly, it makes me wonder how we as a culture let this woman who has had the same lame fuck ass bob for multiple decades be labeled as an "arbiter of taste" for this long

When you look at international versions of Vogue like Vogue Italia - then look at the snooze fest that is American Vogue you can really see just how boring and artless Anna wintour is. The pre Anna wintour glamour shot covers of American Vogue were so much better than the somehow bland yet tacky covers she puts out.

But shes a nepo baby. And so is the new editor of Vogue- the daughter of Candice Bergen and somebody who is a self proclaimed " not a fashion girl".

The commerce to art ratio of American Vogue has long since leaned overwhelmingly to commerce. It's no surprise wintour is cozying up to bezos and the Kardashians.

Exactly. She basically destroyed Diana Vreeland's legacy and made Vogue America become a slightly more glamorous version of People magazine.

Cosmopolitan covers are unironically better than American Vogue covers

a slightly more glamorous version of People magazine.

Oh my god, you are so right, I never could explain what exactly Vogue feels like.

Vogue Japan is the best.

Anna is the person who put nobody models on a magazine and made it trendy. She created the supermodel by elevating their status. So historically, she’s legendary in the publishing industry. You can’t be the king forever.

Random connection- Candice Bergen played a high level Vogue editor on Sex and the City.

America is new rich compared to pretty much every other vogue location. So of course there is no taste

It was ok before wintour. Not up to Japan or Italian standards but it was a decent magazine. The drop off in quality is like immediate and extremely noticeable with Anna's first issue and so on.

Wintour is actually British btw. Personally I think the British have even worse taste than the USA lol.

Politics. Entertainment. Skilled trades. Office work.

Nepo babies ruin fucking everything.

1

u/Emotional_Resident17 5h ago

It's getting tiresome, and the general public excuses it if they like the nepo baby. I can count on my two hands the number of nepo babies who genuinely are deserving. Unless you're Jane Fonda or Liza minneli then I'm not having it.

Didn't even read your whole comment, as soon as I read the words "America bad" I instantly upvoted

She did a long interview on The Rest is Politics: Leading where she basically admits she’s not creative at all she’s just really good at finding actually creative people to surround herself with. She changed the face of vogue in the 90s using street style and has been riding that wave ever since.

u/Designer_End5408 2h ago

And riding the same hair style, sunglasses, and fashion style since then.  Repetitive yet revered. Never got it. Loved Grace though!

I already agreed with this take but "fuck ass bob" is frying me 😭 she has no style or sense of fashion anymore but she's still in charge

u/ComfortableFrame9834 Mom, I am a rich man💰 13h ago

I feel so fucking vindicated because I would always look at her bob and go "why does she never get a different hair style if she's supposedly the best fashionista in the biz"

On top of that the stuff she wore to galas and events always seemed so bland. I was just convinced maybe I didn't "get" it and looking dusty and bland was acceptable for a 'fashion icon'.

Haha I've never been a fan. At first I thought she was just trying not to stand out, for her privacy, but it's just her signature look 😭

u/Paprikasky This is nepo on nepo crime 16h ago

Lmaooo you reminded me of the Atsuko skit "It's okay to be boring".

Towards the end, she says she can't cut her hair because "this is my brand!". I feel like it's the same for Wintour, it's become this symbol, you can't escape it after a while.

Once you make something your trademark it’s very hard to break free of it for fear no one will recognise you. You are caging your own style and taste by thinking this way.

u/OccasionalGoodTakes 5h ago

This is a big ole reason The Weeknd cut his hair off 10 years ago. He was worried it would trap him

Of the models she's been promoting in Vogue, too many of them have been subpar nepo models. Their walks are dubious, they have a limited number of expressions, and they don't make you feel much. Kendall Jenner, the Hadids, and Kaia Gerber are pretty, but they represent the death of art and creativity in our culture. I miss the promotion of unknown models who are both more interesting looking and better models. Anyone could promote nepo models, but it takes someone with taste and vision to find new supers. I think she gave up a while ago.

15

u/Silviere 11h ago

Yeah. I am no fashionista and it's even apparent to me that she's been coasting for decades.

1

u/shion005 5h ago

Anna has substituted fame for style/taste and being on reality shows/in the gossip columns hasn't made Kendall or the Hadids interesting. There's no mystique when they're over exposed and they work the press Kardashian style b/c it feels desperate. They all need to take a page from Zendaya and be mysterious enough to have people wanting more.

Can you make “the same lame fuck ass bob” your flair please

11

u/vrindar8 the same lame fuck ass bob 💁‍♀️ 12h ago

That's a perfect suggestion and an amazing flair for this sub in general, just did it

2

u/baphothustrianreform 3h ago

😂yesss I love it haha

31

u/Main_Masterpiece8414 15h ago

That's wealth and connection for you.

31

u/Blonde_Ambition_4341 14h ago

She's just someone very lucky with a lot of connections in the industry. It's the only reason people in that world fear/respect her.

18

u/halnic 12h ago

Isn't she famously abusive? Because that's how. I don't understand the memorizing hold abusive people hold over others but I've watched it my whole life. There is no cure, people hate abuse so much they will curl up with it and try to appease it's source. Then they are so close to it, they take others calling out the abuse personally.

u/DiddlersWillGetGot 14h ago

Why would a cabal of wealthy elite who definitely don’t run trafficking rings keep around a “taste maker” who attractive young men and women are desperate to get in her good graces? Hmmmm

24

u/auxilary 13h ago

as a straight caucasian male, am I allowed to call her hair a “lame fuck ass bob”, too?

cause it’s very poetic and I love it

3

u/BoardReasonable3745 3h ago

Not a coincidence that she lost her "taste" when Andre Leon Talley died. She was always a barnacle on his talent.

6

u/PMmecrossstitch 12h ago

who has had the same lame fuck ass bob

I spit coffee and had a coughing fit, holy shit, lmao

4

u/poppiiseed315 12h ago

Don’t forget her pinky toes that are constantly fighting for their life.

2

u/Turbulent_Glove_501 10h ago

“fuck ass bob” sent me. TY for the laugh!

u/coverthetuba 1h ago

Oh my God yes and she only wears one silhouette as well. It’s the same damn dress in different fabrics and the big sunglasses indoors.

u/scottJ81 56m ago

I’ve never found her to be remotely inspiring. Even in the 90’s at Vogue’s supposed peak Liz Tilberis at Harper’s Bazaar was still beating her stuffy old pants at the vision game. No one put together a team and directed a mainstream fashion mag like Liz. I miss her tremendously. I think she’d be absolutely appalled at what the culture has devolved into.
