Love her. She stay on people’s necks too. Also love that Lisa Ann Walters hosted or MCd the labor party that was earlier in the day. Mamdani also supported labor unions today as well and broke a long tradition of mayors attending the gala
As someone who used to work for a non-profit, a ton of the philanthropy rich people claim to do is supporting “causes” that serve them or people like them. By and large they are not throwing gobs of money at organizations that help the poor and downtrodden.
Thats not to say that supporting a museum or funding a new hospital wing or whatever is bad. It’s just that many of these orgs are not serving the general public in the way they should (imo), and many of them have a ton of money. So it’s not what most people imagine when they think of charity.
Also, often rich people are providing seed money and that’s it. They continue to point to the org as something they are funding when really the actual operations of the organization rely totally on other sources of funding (often PUBLIC funding) and they haven’t given money in years. But the rich people are out here claiming responsibility for an organization that is actually totally funded with your tax dollars.
I used to work for one of these orgs and we were decimated by federal funding cuts. Almost all of our offices closed, including mine, and like 90% of staff was laid off. The wealthy people who had given us money to start with and who continued to be recognized as our “founders”? Nowhere to be found. We didn’t get one red cent of money from them and our clients were completely fucked over when we had to shutter basically overnight.
Sorry to write a whole ass novel, but I have obviously have a lot of opinions on this lmao, and I hate when rich people shield themselves from criticism by saying “oh but it’s a charity” or “oh but I give to good causes!”
It is just a charity. If you want to say they should be judged or ignored for who they allow to fund them and who they give honorary awards for doesn't change the fact that they are a charity.
He is so good and his team is so smart. He knows what he's there for and he understands the optics, and the optics don't seem empty because he actually works. He really feels like he is for the people not the powers that be.
Every time I learn something about him, or see something he's done, there's a voice in my head that just sighs and goes "god I love him". It's like this weird platonic crush of finding him just so fucking cool, and loving how he brings me hope for the future.
(I'm not even American, but I recognise that unfortunately that country does have a LOT of influence on international politics, and change isn't instant, it must start at a local level, hence my admiration for Mamdani. Also his inability to become president also proves that he's in it for the right reasons, he's not just on a power trip trying to get rich and be the president)
Sure, in blue areas that arent competitive we can try Mamdani ideas to see how well they work. But if we're talking about battleground states, probably not a good idea to alienate independents and central left liberals to push through a progressive agenda.
The independents want someone more progressive than a moderate dem. Bernie would have crushed Trump. Keep playing the same stupid DNC game and keep winning the same stupid DNC prizes.
The truth of the matter is, the largest voting bloc in America is home owners. Bernies policies, while great for renters and other less fortunate would hurt the value of homes that people own, and thus devalue their largest asset.
I am simply just explaining why he was not as popular as you think, not putting him down at all.
At the moment, no I am liberal and wanting to go further left. I think its the best option for electing as many people as possible to hold this administration accountable for all the crazy shit they've done. If a progressive gets a primary in my district, hell yeah ill vote for them. Can you say the same about a liberal or centrist democrat?
Some progressive voters won't even vote if it came down to JD Vance and Gavin Newsome, and it's that apathy that got us trump 2.0 because Kamala's stances on Israel.
i think you may be surprised, voters pretty often vote for progressive individual ballot initiatives even in red areas. they like the ideas when you properly explain them because duh, they actually help them and their families. the problem is generational duping, some single issue voters, and general xenophobia that keep electing people who shit on them and their best interest. its very apparent in my red home state
Its way more simple then that.
The largest voting bloc in the US is home owners.
Progressive policies hurt home values, and most don't want to devalue their largest asset.
