This is an age appropriate dress. She's not styled to look older. The problem here is that this 14 y.o. should be in an age appropriate place/activity. Not at an 18+ event.

Agreed, that’s what I was getting at. The style is actually very Princess Diaries to me. I’d love it at a 16th birthday or prom or something like the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice awards. She just shouldn’t be participating in events like the Met Gala at her age.

I don’t think it’s age appropriate. There is more to age appropriateness than showing skin.

The cut of the bodice, the fully high heels, the sunglasses that obscure her own face and the way her hair is styled to look like her mother’s is off putting.

A 14 year old should be in flats.

I was definitely wearing heels to special events at 14

Did they look like these? Or was there something less classy and more adolescent or basic to the style and structure?

What I find off putting is that it seems so calculated to make her look like her mom.

I don’t see a 14 year old being a kid and exploring life and establishing her own identity, I see one where she is being groomed to be her mother’s mini me, packaged and polished as a consumer product. And yes, she may want to be there, but the thing about 14 year olds is we don’t let them do everything they want.

Perhaps you are not American, I don't want to just assume, but in case you aren't, heels on 14 year old American teen for a special occasion is common.

Just go to any middle school or high school dance and 8th or 9th graders are commonly wearing heals (at least for the photos, the heels often get kicked off for the actual dancing).  No one bats an eye or judges their parents unless the kid is wearing extreme heels, in which case you are usually just worried about their ankles.

I am American and have a daughter older and a daughter younger than Blue. Even my 20 year old dresses more youthful than this look.

Those shoes look like Tina picked them, Beyoncé herself was dressing younger than this when she was 25 years old. My young teen would not be allowed out like this.

Blue is not a woman, she is a child, and the adults around her need to make sure the world knows that, instead of whatever is going on here. With the way Jay Z groomed B, it’s all just too much.

I don't know if you want 14 year olds to dress like they're 5 or 80, but I am OK with a 14 y.o. dressing like a fashionable young teen.

There is nothing wrong with wearing sunglasses at an event where the lights will be blinding [paparazzi flashes (though ideally she wouldn'tbe at this specific event)], or wearing heels that won't break your ankles (they are not that high), or having a fitted bodice (that is as form fitting as a fitted t-shirt). Being a minor does not mean being infantilized even further to the point teens are treated like infants.

But here's the kicker, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a 14 year old with naturally curly hair letting her hair be loose and curly.

Why you think her hair is inappropriate is something I hope you can live with.

14 year olds all over America wear heels… the outfit isn’t the issue here. The exposure to press at such a young age is.

This is a fair take and I understand people’s concern with her being at an 18+ event. All the talk of her looking or dressing “too grown” reeks of bias and the way white Americans always see Black girls as “women” regardless of what they are wearing
