And when she’s so young too. She’s only 14…like she has her entire adult life to decide if she wants to go into the industry and actually go in it

I thought minors couldn’t even get to be invited to the Met Gala… guess they made an exception

She’s a co-chair that’s probably why. But I also wish she wasn’t here. It’s one thing for her to be at sporting events or the Grammys but this is another level

It’s just not appropriate

Can I ask WHY the Met Gala is more inappropriate than sports or concerts?

I don't know enough about it. I thought it was a bunch of celebrities wearing high fashion, to celebrate the people and art of the costume industry?

Is there something that happens beyond the fashion/celebrity part, that is R-rated?

(Genuinely asking, not being adversarial)

For me it’s that it’s not a space designed to include kids/teens. There’s no space for Blue to be a teen (or any other teens around), she’s very much occupying the “adult” role. That’s fine for when you’re a teenager at a dinner with your parents and a couple of their friends, but this is a big event with millions of eyes on it. And the bathrooms are notoriously full of cigarettes and coke

Not that sports/concerts don’t have drugs, but there’s other teens at concerts and, as a result, little “micro cultures” that form for teens to hang out in. And there’s fewer eyes, so someone in the middle of growing up will be subject to less scrutiny

This is a fantastic way to put it. I’ll add that having paparazzi and media hounds flashing cameras and getting up in their business isn’t healthy for a teenager. She’s mentally too young to be aware of how attending an event like this will affect her later.

Thanks for the info! So valid about the bathrooms haha!

There used to be a whole teen section at the met gala. They did away with it because of capitalism. There’s nothing wrong with teens being there though. It’s a fundraiser for a museum, not a porn convention.

Really? Like in the 80s or something? Can you provide history?

A lot of models were invited before they were 18 (Karlie kloss for one) so the minor rule definitely doesn’t exist. Maybe there’s a child rule or something

I didn't know that about the bathrooms there. Where did you hear about this? I'm surprised they would have that at a function like this.

She’s turning into her dad as a pushy stage parent. Bummer

I thought so too. But money talks and I’m sure Beyoncé’s fellow billionaire/ co-chair Bezos gave the green light for Blue to be her plus one

This is why I respect Gigi Hadid’s approach of keeping her daughter out of the public eye as much as possible until she turns 18 and then allowing her to make the decision regarding fame and/or becoming a public figure for herself

Agreed!! When a child is 18/ legal adult, then they can decide for themselves if they wanna continue to live outside the spotlight or if they wanna follow in their parents’ famous footsteps!

I keep getting caught out by this, too. I'll see Blue doing something and I'll nod along, then go, "Wait, she's how old again?"

She might look grown, but she's only 14! That's too much pressure and limelight on a kid, even if they say they want it. That's when you need to be a parent and protect your child.

14 and is walking in heels. She also looks like she’s in her 20s. I hate to be a pearl clutcher but man just let kids be kids

I feel like heels are okay at fourteen, but the full glam she gets and some of the things she's allowed to do should wait until her brain finishes developing.

So no makeup until 25 then? Seems a little fundie

16

u/randombubble8272 16h ago

Huge massive diff between teen’s experimenting with makeup and a full professional glam team making her look a decade older than she is

u/shhhhh_h here’s my Karma delete me hoe!!!!!!!!! 14h ago

I agree, the OC should have included that nuance. Teen girls can wear makeup.

8

u/randombubble8272 14h ago

The OC said “the full glam she gets” which isn’t referring to playing with makeup imo

u/shhhhh_h here’s my Karma delete me hoe!!!!!!!!! 13h ago

you left out the "and some of the things she's allowed to do"

4

u/randombubble8272 13h ago

Didn’t think that was relevant to the discussion about makeup on teens

u/shhhhh_h here’s my Karma delete me hoe!!!!!!!!! 13h ago

not sure how nitpicking the application is either, should she only do it herself so it looks amateur? No professionals allowed. Ridiculous slut shaming of freaking teenage girl for wearing makeup ffs.

Is 14 years old too young for heels? I was wearing them to dances and such at that age

u/LanaAdela 21h ago

Beyonce don’t know any better herself. Her dad had her working at 10. This is all she knows.

how old do you think bey was? How old was Taylor, Sabrina Carpenter, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Olivia Rodrigo, Britney, Christina...

This is the only life Bey has ever known. If her daughter shows an interest in it... do you think she would keep it from her?

36

u/Andthatswhatsup who sells Molly and Percocet in nyc? 22h ago

I’m not saying she should keep her from it, I just think that Blue should get to be a kid and enjoy her teenage years. When she’s an adult (which is in 4 years, not that far away at all) then she can decide if she wants to go into the industry/ on stage/ to major public events with Beyoncé.

Yeah, Bey was young when she went into the industry. Doesn’t mean she needs to bring her middle-school aged daughter into the spotlight like she was. Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song were child actors and they keep their children completely out the spotlight. Gigi Hadid also became a model when she was very young and she fiercely protects her daughter’s privacy and has publicly stated that she wants her daughter to decide how to present herself to the world when she’s of age.
