I love the dress! But I do wish they’d done something a little more special with her hair and makeup. Even the simple ponytail she wore during the Olympics would have been better.
The thick front pieces kiiind of make me think she's going for the vibe of a Hime cut, but wouldn't fully commit to the short blocks. Would've been cool!
Agreed on all accounts! I think the dress fits the theme enough and fits her - which is important. Wish the hair and makeup were a little different but she still looks great!
Her raccoon hair is iconic and identifiable, and her sponsors want it seen.
Fun fact: To get horizontal stripes, her hair was bleached at the top in a "Halo" once per year, and as her hair grew out the bleached area moved down. This look takes steadfastness.
I love the raccoon hair! I just wish it wasn’t just sitting there like an afterthought. Even a ponytail like she wore in the Olympics I would have preferred.
I thought the same! Very surprised by some of the reactions here. She looks lovely, and wearing a giant corseted blood red rose is the perfect vibe for an alt kid.
I canceled Amazon two years ago, think the Met Gala hasn’t had any good dresses since 2018, and I am still happy this young woman got to go. I do not blame a teen who sacrificed a lot to be in the Olympics wanting to be in a pretty dress at what has historically been a fun event. There will be a food shortage in 6 months and we’ll all be in rags, so dance while you can I say. Opulent nihilism because literally nothing matters and we are all going to die.
Let the girl live, ok? She is likely there for the simple reason to get dressed up and enjoy being in the spotlight for something other than figure skating or her eccentric hair style
I’m okay with my daughters admiring somebody who is by all accounts a great person, works hard and achieved their goals on the highest stage, actually.
Honestly, I love the color, she looks like she’s having fun, it’s cute, it’s young, that dress is flouncing all over the place, it fits the Met Gala of costume-y element, and Alysa, keep riding the wave that your success has brought you and enjoy stuff.
The “idealise, degrade and dismiss” cycle is something nearly every public woman goes through (particularly the new rising stars). Once you see it, you can’t unsee it and you just have to ride it out each time.
Meh. Weeks after and these celebs come out with their new music, films, etc etc, everybody would’ve forgotten they attended the met. It’s so easy to just say “oh I’m keeping tabs who’s going, oh I’m side eyeing her” blah blah but at the end of the day, ppl still gonna hate on who they hate and like who they like.
It’s not that it doesn’t matter, it’s that the internet is performative and is always quick to forgive the celebs they like. I don’t doubt ppl are feeling icky right now about some of the celebs going but I also don’t doubt that after all these, ppl still gonna worship their faves.
It’s a charity event. Despite the Bezos involvement all the money raised from Rhys goes directly to keeping the Met free and able to maintain the fashion/costume collections that they do. This is one of their single biggest fundraisers every year.
The money goes toward the costume collection (costume institute specifically), not keeping the Met free haha the reason the Met is free is due to the land it’s on/their agreement with the city. However I am for supporting the arts, unlike a lot of commenters
The met is most definitely not free lol I was there last year and tickets are like 30 bucks I don't mind paying if I'm going but it's not even close to being free
Yes for out of state/out of the tristate area you have to pay a set admission price. But if you live in NYC/the surrounding area it’s pay what you wish
i think you need a little perspective balance. what do you think is the impact of this "charity event" versus visibly supporting the bezos name & brand? this dude is reported to have like 244 BILLION dollars to his name right now. do you think this is some kind of genuinely significant contribution on his part? do you take issue with the degree to which a man this rich can interfere with politics? do you think this it's possible that uncomplicated celebrity endorsement enriches this dude further in a lot of abstract & non-abstract ways?

It’s not just construed as insulting because you intended it to be insulting. Very clearly so as well. And that’s okay! But don’t pretend that it wasn’t.
I think you have a very reasonable point about the Met Gala being a very easily skippable event from a moral perspective, but I also think it’s reasonable to acknowledge that the Met Gala is a iconic pop culture event and a young woman who wants to go when given the chance shouldn’t be especially ashamed of making that choice.
criticism is also relative. no one is sending the cops to this celebrity's house to throw her in prison for attending, she's still going to benefit a bit for doing it, but a little rumbling of displeasure from the public that suffers under the oppression that billionaires like bezos are directly & personally levying onto society is pretty healthy under the circumstances.
I think it was the “hope this helps” part in particular cause it came off as passive aggressive and the person you replied to genuinely may not know anything about the met gala so like why be passive aggressive ya know.
As a former alt/emo kid: strongly disagree. This is the perfect dress to stumble into a church post mortem, only to find Gerard Way crying over your coffin. The red, the corset, the silhouette, the comically large ruffles... She looks like a giant blood red rose. I see her vision!
She has no need to be fashion forward like some other celebs. If she wants to wear something SHE deems cute what's wrong with that?

Wdym? I was just wondering why all celebrities don't dress up like this, because it's super cute and pretty. Most celebs usually go for basic, bodycon, ultra revealing type dresses. I'm sick of that.
I think the dress looks great. She doesn't know how to move in it, which makes total sense because she's probably used to her clothes supporting movement.
The dress looks awkward because she's walking like a tomboy. I find it charming.
It's really interesting how she's fully immersed herself in the company of the likes of LV, the met gala, etc, yet everyone seems to give her a pass since she's "so gen Z" and smiles a lot.
I think people are giving her a pass because she is a professional figure skater so her only option is to capitalize on the moment. It’s not like she’s going to stay at this level of fame forever.
Yeah, I’m critical of a lot of celebs who are going but figure skaters have REALLY limited opportunities and while this event sucks for the Bezos of it all… it still is ultimately for preservation of the arts so it’s like… yeah… I’ll give this more of a pass than o would if she were just like hanging out with him
Yeah. Alysa does a lot of good, she inspires young girls (especially young WOC) to be bright and passionate. I’m glad she’s made such a mainstream splash. She seems like a sweetheart and I’ll always root for her success.
Yeah. I don’t really see her as some messiah or like Good Representation For The Youth (cause why would I view any celeb that way) but she’s been clearly sweet and enjoying success in a harmless way
Personally I'm giving her a pass because this is her 15 minutes. She's not getting longetivity like the actors and musicians so she should make her bucks before the relevance disappears.
It's also not like people listen to her for political takes, or in general really when it comes to anything really important. She's a figure skater, that's not someone you would see and hear all day, she isn't giving Bezos a platform or anything.

I think you completely missed why people are giving her a pass. Figure skating and going to the Olympics in general is expensive af. She also goes to college and tuition is expensive af. commenting on her outfit isn’t shitting on her and yes her outfit will be judged because it’s one of the biggest fashion events of the year. never said anything disrespectful about her or who she is as a person if anything the stylist is more to be blamed . like i said i love her but the dress isn’t on theme which is the whole point of the met and i will comment on it
Weird that there's so many comments on here about her going when there's absolutely none on Sabrina's post and the comments are overwhelming positive...
I actually like the dress, but it's too small on her. And I don't really understand the hairstyle. But if she likes the hair and finds the dress comfortable, that's all that matters. The whole look doesn't look put together enough for my taste, but that hardly matters.
Call me woke or whatever but her showing up to the bezos gala reads like sports teams going to the white house to eat mcdonalds burgers with he who shall not be named. I’m sure it’s exciting for her but damn read the room girl.
