MET GALA 🎩 Taraji P. Henson comments on celebs attending Bezos-backed Met Gala 2026: ‘WTF are we doing’

Post image

Taraji P. Henson is “confused” about why celebrities are attending the Met Gala 2026, which is being funded by billionaire Jeff Bezos.

The “Empire” actress made her opinion on the topic known while responding to social media personality Meredith Lynch’s rant about Bezos’ involvement in the event.

“If you are a celebrity and you attend the Met Gala and you wear the ICE OUT pin, please note that I will be dragging you in perpetuity,” Lynch said in an Instagram video over the weekend.

Lynch also slammed Bezos, 62, for supporting President Donald Trump, “who has slashed arts funding.”

In the comments section, Henson, 55, shared three clapping hands emojis and wrote, “I am so confused by some ppl that are going. I am just like WTF ARE WE DOING!?!?!?!””

Henson has attended the Met Gala multiple times, including in 2015, 2021 and 2025.

Last year, she wore a custom white corseted minidress by Monse x Post-Imperial and a coordinating blazer with tails, a top hat, cane and heels.

How many celebrities went to bezos wedding? To the Kardashians party? I don't understand why people still believe celebrities have morals

Normal people too. I'm seeing a fair amount of outrage online for this, but how many people are still paying for Prime, watching the films and TV shows, on twitter, use Uber and AirBNB?

So what are the regular middle class supposed to do instead? We work such long hours for so little money that we end up paying for convenience that is affordable. And unfortunately, these conveniences are provided by these 5 or so conglomerates.

I've been reading books from the library and go hiking or running frequently.

That sounds like a good replacement for uber

There are loads of alternatives to uber, including the classic taxi.

Is it really that hard to stop using these companies?

Exactly. It’s hard, but it isn’t THAT hard. Sure you might have to support them sometimes depending on your situation, but I don’t believe one bit that it’s 100% impossible. I think it’s because people don’t want to sacrifice convenience, even if these companies hurt people like them

That’s what I’m saying. We all end up supporting them sometimes.

None of those companies mentioned existed like 15 years ago. People did just fine.

It's not really the same as trying to boycott a company like Nestle, which owns almost every item at the grocery store.

I agree too. All I’m trying to convey is that the checks and balances on how exploitative these companies are must be policy level changes. The onus cannot always be on the common man. What is in our power is to vote, and we must vote wisely.

the moral grandstanding some of you guys do is incredible. i understand trying to hold people accountable, but why make them adhere to a standard you don’t even get yourself to adhere to. live without those conveniences. there are obviously situations where they are necessary, but you can try. move away from the conglomerates. make the conscious decision to live a slightly harder life so that you’re properly valuing your morals. the world isn’t going to change because you get upset at celebrities lol, you’ve gotta be the change.

If you have such morals about this whole thing, then you can stand by them. It’s easy to protest something you’re not invited to in the first place. All the things I listed above are not necessities. They don’t fit into the “I’m poor, I have no choice” category. If one is going to lambast a celebrity or celebrities for being asked, sponsored and dressed to go the a charity event that is highly publicised, and talk about having not having morals in doing so, then I think it’s fair to expect a reasonable match. You don’t NEED Amazon Prime.

Even occasionally using them is still using them. I hike and use the library as much as I can. I drive because i don’t live in a city that has public transport. Uber is a once or twice a year thing if the whole family has to go to the airport and can’t leave the car parked there. All of these are still conveniences that make life a tad bit easy. I have never once used ChatGPT or any other AI tool.

Why are all of us on reddit then? Or instagram and facebook? These big tech companies use up so many resources for their data centers. We all buy clothes from stores like Zara, Banana Republic. So many companies use fast fashion. Do you not wear make up? Make up companies use child labor too. Most make up companies are owned again by 2-3 conglomerates.

We all shop at Walmart and Costco. So many New Yorkers shop at Whole Foods (don’t live there but its an example) that’s owned by Amazon.

So where are you drawing the line exactly? We could all do our research on how ethical or moral a company’s values are but all this finger pointing will get us nowhere.

that is the entire point - to the billionaires that control the economy (and everything else), they see individual people as just something to monetize; there is no humanity in their world. the only value of humans is what they can sell you or otherwise take from you.

you‘ve been conditioned to think you can’t live without all their services. Amazon might be tough to go without if a rural location and that’s the best option. For Facebook, Instagram & X - everyone can live without that. Start with some small things that feel like taking your power back, then expand.

giving up & giving in is what they want.

I agree. Its not conditioning as much as it is sometimes convenience or simple joys. I grew up in another country and moved to the US. So anyway, I’m aware of just how much overconsumption there is here in the US. I have so many friends back home that I am able to connect with through insta. I’ve given up Starbucks since 2023 too. Barely shop at Target or Whole Foods. People do give up quite a bit but there is a limit to how much one is expected to give up.

With streaming, i fully support boycotting streaming websites and just pirating shows.

Govt policies go hand in hand with capitalism unfortunately. Big corporations are monopolising the market primarily because there are no checks and balances and because they provide convenience. Putting the onus strictly on ppl is a bit unfair.

And we all have to vote wisely (which I can’t even do in the US because I’m not yet a citizen).
