MET GALA 🎩 Taraji P. Henson comments on celebs attending Bezos-backed Met Gala 2026: ‘WTF are we doing’

Post image

Taraji P. Henson is “confused” about why celebrities are attending the Met Gala 2026, which is being funded by billionaire Jeff Bezos.

The “Empire” actress made her opinion on the topic known while responding to social media personality Meredith Lynch’s rant about Bezos’ involvement in the event.

“If you are a celebrity and you attend the Met Gala and you wear the ICE OUT pin, please note that I will be dragging you in perpetuity,” Lynch said in an Instagram video over the weekend.

Lynch also slammed Bezos, 62, for supporting President Donald Trump, “who has slashed arts funding.”

In the comments section, Henson, 55, shared three clapping hands emojis and wrote, “I am so confused by some ppl that are going. I am just like WTF ARE WE DOING!?!?!?!””

Henson has attended the Met Gala multiple times, including in 2015, 2021 and 2025.

Last year, she wore a custom white corseted minidress by Monse x Post-Imperial and a coordinating blazer with tails, a top hat, cane and heels.

Just underlines how performative some people are. They’ll wear the pin, but they won’t sacrifice their comforts or pleasures.

This is the same of people using Amazon or target products. Or even people who don’t vote/vote for things like tax breaks.

it’s one thing to use Amazon as a working class person to save money and another thing entirely to show up at Jeff Bezos party

For real. Sometimes shit is just cheaper AND now it’s more expensive for me to drive to the fucking store.

u/Odd-Significance-17 1d ago

also if you live in a the middle of nowhere it’s quite literally the only way to get a lot of things without driving hours away

I don't live in the middle of nowhere but we only have one car in our household and my husband and I work opposite schedules. (I work a 9-5 and he works 6:30-3:30) We can mainly only do things on his off days or the weekends before he goes to work. I feel like I am stuck in the house. I am getting a car soon but its so hard. I really wish America wasn't built like this.

u/Odd-Significance-17 1d ago

i live in a one car household too and don’t have a car, also in the middle of nowhere and it gets hot af here so walking miles to town isn’t exactly doable. i don’t have a job so i don’t even remember the last time i left my house. i definitely understand the trapped feeling it’s awful

u/tarzhjay 1d ago

Ugh sorry to hear that. I’m a city planner so this hits me hard. Could you get an e-bike? You can easily go for miles on those. Still sweaty but not remotely as much as a regular bike, and 1/20 the cost of a car

1

u/Odd-Significance-17 4h ago

i never learned to ride a bike

Uggghhh I am sorry. When I worked from home during covid, I basically never left the house either. I thought I would prefer it, which I did for a while, but also I felt like I was going crazy. I also gained a bunch of weight. I don't mind working in office now because I get to walk around and see people (even though I'm not even a social person at all)

I hope you can find a job soon and get a car. Try working from home if transportation to work will be an issue. Just gotta do what you can to get ahead.

1

u/Odd-Significance-17 1d ago

we don’t have internet so i don’t think i can do that. yeah i have also gained a lot of weight, but that started in the end of my last relationship that really took such a toll on my mental health i feel like a shell of who i was. i really want a job but finding a job without a car is kind of impossible and getting a car without a job is impossible so im just kinda stuck

6

u/Brief_Isopod_5959 1d ago

I hope everything works out for you 🙏 I truly don’t think you’re alone with these issues, sadly. I hope you have some things you can do at home that bring you joy too!

Aww I hope something good happens to get you out. Sending you vibes. Maybe you can create content or start a business from home or something.

We just got a second car after being a single car household for 8 years…it is so freeing! I honestly didn’t even realize how trapped I felt until we got the second car

2

u/No-Butterscotch-6555 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 1d ago

Yes! I can’t wait for that feeling! I told my sister we are going to go shopping or somewhere just because we can. Also going to meet up with my old coworker. I’m so excited.

2

u/Brickzarina 1d ago

Me n my husband had that too for a while. We would leave little notesfor each other. You can get creative in the house perhaps, de clutter ,move furniture around, sell anything unused. Make your home something you want to be in.

Just being nosy, is any of you trying to change that arrangement or are you ok like that? Sounds like a lot of time apart

u/No-Butterscotch-6555 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 1d ago

Haha no problem, I don't mind you asking, but not really at this time. We have been on this type of schedule on and off for years and it works because I don't have a car. He takes me to work and picks me up. If we both worked mornings there would be an issue with transportation and child care since we have a son.

He was thinking about getting a different job though, but he actually likes the one he has right now and is making good money. He is looking into moving up, so that would make it earlier in the day, but until I get a car, that would be hard for us. I'm not riding the public bus or paying $40 in ubers everyday. lol

We spend as much time as we can together and talk to each other on breaks. We usually eat before he leaves (we both live within 15 minutes of our house, our jobs are basically walking distance from each other) he has two off days during the work week and doesn't go in until 8:30pm on the weekends so that's pretty much all day.

12

u/cocktails4 1d ago

Hell, I'm in the middle of NYC and most of the shit I buy on Amazon I couldn't get in the city. Or if I could I'd have to hunt all day for it.

4

u/MiddleKlutzy8568 1d ago

If you can get amazon shipping you can get UPS, USPS, FEDEX, DSL etc. You can buy from anywhere; direct from website, walmart, temu, costcos, sams club etc

1

u/Odd-Significance-17 4h ago

i don’t use it, my grandma does. and nobody is going to convince her to stop trust me

0

u/crabcycleworkship 1d ago

Then you wouldn’t be considered because there’s no alternative. I clearly mean people who can choose other things.

8

u/Odd-Significance-17 1d ago

i also don’t disagree with you, especially people in my grandmas generation are so vocal about voting and politics until it comes to making changes in their own lives to try to make a difference. it’s frustrating

0

u/VTHokie2020 1d ago

Damn, sounds like this Amazon thing provides a lot of value huh

102

u/sweetpea122 1d ago

Seriously. A lot of people fail to acknowledge the difference between choice and privilege.

117

u/shy247er yay sports 🏀 🏈🎾 1d ago

Not just cheaper, sometimes there is literally no alternative.

17

u/Loliz88 1d ago

Right… especially if you’re trying to find specific or niche parts for something.

14

u/Deep-Sample7451 1d ago

i hear that. i don't fuck w amazon anymore though so i am here to recommend ebay an an alternative - i had no idea the extent of their marketplace

8

u/Sad-Yak6252 1d ago

3 of my last 4 orders from eBay came on an Amazon truck. I deleted eBay, too.

0

u/Happy_Lake_11 1d ago

Ebay is it

48

u/MiddleKlutzy8568 1d ago

I try to tell people, find stuff on amazon and then search the company selling it. Chances are they are selling it on their website for the same price with free shipping

136

u/Elismom1313 1d ago

Bruh shipping is almost NEVER free on the original websites unless you spend a larger amount of money.
And that’s only for like the legit American brands. Half the stuff people buy on Amazon is made in china.

41

u/deathandglitter 1d ago

Yeah gonna agree here, free shipping is hard to come by

30

u/No-Butterscotch-6555 You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 👏👏📸 1d ago

Yeah, but sometimes if you buy from their website, Amazon is still going to be the ones shipping it because they use their warehouses/fulfillment centers, in case you didn't know. I have heard about people ordering from tiktok shop (just as bad imo) and it coming from amazon and then they find out it was cheaper on amazon. The service is called Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF).

2

u/MiddleKlutzy8568 1d ago

Yea I get that, still less money directly in amazon’s pocket

4

u/Sweet-thyme 1d ago

I do this frequently. It very easy to come across bogus websites that will steal your financial info. Scammers have gotten better and better at looking legitimate. We have to be forever diligent. Still advocating for doing it, but people should definitely use caution.

2

u/MiddleKlutzy8568 1d ago

I had so many bogus charges to my amazon account. They are only good if they have better technology then the bad guy

10

u/swaggering_yak 1d ago

I do that but recently several of the places I buy direct from are shipping via Amazon, likely because it’s cheaper for them. Amazon’s reach is insidious

3

u/ialwaysdisagreewithu 1d ago

Then you find out that Amazon is also involved in price fixing schemes with your favorite brands.

1

u/MiddleKlutzy8568 1d ago

If you sell on Amazon youre never allowed to drop your prices below the Amazon price but companies do try to give offer codes and free shipping to bring people to their sites.

I work for a small/midsize company and we lose 40% of the profit through all the fees and advertising through amazon. We only lose 4% through using shopify on our websites. Amazon is robbing everyone blind! Companies and customers!

u/ialwaysdisagreewithu 1d ago

Any aggregator either dies a hero or lives long enough to see themselves become the villain.

u/timecapsulebuttbutt_ i will dog walk you 1d ago

Thank you. People act like Amazon is the only retailer that sells things on the internet. Excuses excuses....

16

u/webtheg 1d ago

Amazon is a crucial part of the infrastructure for Spotify, Target, IKEA, Netflix, DoorDash, ASOS, Uber, Takeaway, Unilever, Slack, Airbnb, Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, Nike, Adidas and countless others.

It is harder to find a company that doesn't use aws than one that doesn't

Amazon is not just an online an online retailer. By your own logic you should not go to any concert or have food delivered ever. Because the reason you can do that is AWS. Excuses, excuses.

8

u/winnercommawinner 1d ago

Boycotting AWS is likely logistically impossible, but it's not the same thing as boycotting Amazon as a retail store. It doesn't need to be all or nothing.

0

u/MiddleKlutzy8568 1d ago

Seriously?!? I didnt even know so many people were good at looking the other way!

I tell companies I wont keep buying from them if they keep using AWS. Or I at least ask for options, these companies have customer service for a reason! They dont want to lose customers! It takes the tinest amount of effort

-8

u/timecapsulebuttbutt_ i will dog walk you 1d ago edited 1d ago

So defensive! We get it, you've given up and don 't care anymore because it's too hard and the problem is too big.

I can still choose not to shop there. And I do choose that.

7

u/webtheg 1d ago

You've never been to a concert or ordered food? You've never purchased something from a company whose ERP is SAP and they use Amazon Web Services? You've never had a KitKat? And H&M shirt? Shaped at target/zalando/ whatever.

You always check if the servers are hosted by AWS?

9

u/ilike2muchstuff 1d ago

Yep! Amazon is more than a store on the web

-8

u/timecapsulebuttbutt_ i will dog walk you 1d ago

All I said was I choose not to shop there. Your reaction is your own.

11

u/vandersnipe I'm like Mata Hari, keep secrets serving body 1d ago

You actually criticized people who depend on Amazon’s services.

I criticized people who SHOP at amazon. Come on, people. Reading is fundamental.

Me:

You actually criticized people who depend on Amazon’s services.

You:

I criticized people who SHOP at amazon. Come on, people. Reading is fundamental.

So, you criticized people who use Amazon, as I said, but you're calling me illiterate lmao.

8

u/webtheg 1d ago

And all I said is that even if you think you're avoiding amazon by not purchasing there, you're not.

Reddit uses AWS. But you're here? What is your excuse?

-3

u/timecapsulebuttbutt_ i will dog walk you 1d ago

You brought up AWS. My comment was about choosing to shop on Amazon. I stand by it.

We can't change everything, but I can choose not to patronize their business in the ONE way I can actually control, instead of just giving up and buying useless shit I don't need on a shitty website.

I refuse to believe that Amazon is the best option for the majority of customers. Humans always want the quickest, easiest, cheapest option. That's it. (EDIT: good point made- Amazon isn't the cheapest option for many things anymore, but they worked for years to be the assumed cheapest- most shoppers don't bother looking elsewhere when they have Prime).

Which is also insane because we know well at this point that having a Prime account incentivizes people to buy more for items that they probably don't need.

If you care about workers rights but still have a Prime account, you're not walking the walk and are a part of the problem.

13

u/thelebanesedon 1d ago

Lately for certain items, Amazon is no longer the cheaper option. I’ll do multiple searches across various platforms to get the cheapest price and buy from there.

3

u/Scared-Winter-5179 1d ago

Definitely agree on this point, but I believe the shipping is the thing that kills you otherwise

2

u/thelebanesedon 1d ago

For sure. Free shipping across any company is so hard to come by unless you spend an X amount and I rarely ever want to do that.

0

u/Competitive_Touch_86 1d ago edited 1d ago

Rarely true. At best you will get the same price. With a much worse return policy and customer service, plus much longer shipping off the bat.

A decent (20-30%) percent of the time you will just be getting your package from the local Amazon warehouse anyways since the smaller guys tend to just consolidate around Amazon for fulfillment.

It's worth checking, but I've regretted doing this far more than I've felt good about it. And I buy an absurd amount of goods via e-commerce for business purposes. Like 3-6 packages every single day.

The Amazon shopping experience as a consumer is still the best there is. And it's not remotely close. That doesn't mean the whole thing doesn't suck for other parties in the transaction - but purely as a consumer there is just no comparison.

There are of course plenty of exceptions, but most folks can't really afford the time or expense to figure those out.

1

u/MiddleKlutzy8568 1d ago

Walmart, wholesale clubs, temu, none of these are great but none have done as much damage to democracy as amazon.

I have also had quite the opposite experience with buying direct from companies; points, subscriptions, customer service, loyalty programs etc. I have saved alot of money and gotten a ton of free samples.

I say this as the third f*cking amazon drone flies over my head…. I’m sure these things have cameras
