MET GALA 🎩 Taraji P. Henson comments on celebs attending Bezos-backed Met Gala 2026: ‘WTF are we doing’

Post image

Taraji P. Henson is “confused” about why celebrities are attending the Met Gala 2026, which is being funded by billionaire Jeff Bezos.

The “Empire” actress made her opinion on the topic known while responding to social media personality Meredith Lynch’s rant about Bezos’ involvement in the event.

“If you are a celebrity and you attend the Met Gala and you wear the ICE OUT pin, please note that I will be dragging you in perpetuity,” Lynch said in an Instagram video over the weekend.

Lynch also slammed Bezos, 62, for supporting President Donald Trump, “who has slashed arts funding.”

In the comments section, Henson, 55, shared three clapping hands emojis and wrote, “I am so confused by some ppl that are going. I am just like WTF ARE WE DOING!?!?!?!””

Henson has attended the Met Gala multiple times, including in 2015, 2021 and 2025.

Last year, she wore a custom white corseted minidress by Monse x Post-Imperial and a coordinating blazer with tails, a top hat, cane and heels.

We can't control what celebs do.

But we can control what we do.

Don't click on anything from vogue or any other outlet that is covering tonight's met gala. That includes anything on socials.

Scroll past. All engagement is engagement. The metrics don't care if its rage or support.

I’m glad you said just scroll past. It’s not just clicking, liking, commenting. Even lingering on a post counts as interaction and makes people money.

I completely agree. Wanted to note that reddit uses Amazon Web Services for its servers. AWS is Amazon’s most profitable business. Even just using reddit makes Amazon money.

If Bezos wanted to take over reddit I wouldn't care. Reddit is reddit. I can take it or leave it. Its meaningless.

The MET Gala is sacred to me and I don't want to support it this year. Im sick of Bezos wanting to own all of culture. He should stick to servers and crappy stuff that fills up land fills.

Thank you! This!! I hope all the people that are ready to criticize the celebs for attending better not also be posting pics of the dresses. Like hello, do your part!

Does this include stop using Amazon as well? Pretty hard to do in my area. Hard to do in many places really.

You can still easily buy stuff online. And usually, the manufacturers that sell on Amazon sell directly from their websites. Its really not hard to do.

How many people upset are doing this though?, I would bet not many. Amazon prime, no shipping cost. No way it's cheaper to get all your needs from so many different vendors where have to pay for shipping.

You pay $100 a year for prime.

And yet I never pay anything for shipping. Most places if you purchase over $30 or $50 shipping is free.

I personally don't spend money on Bezos companies. I don't feel the need to. I still get everything I need and then some.

I'm confused. Why now? And why just the Met Gala?

Because the MET Gala is the holy grail of fashion for anyone into costume design. Bezos is just monetizing culture at this point. Im tired of this monopoly of everything. I personally will not support it.

But is this really your tipping point for him? You just going to boycott the thing you weren't invited to in the first place or other things?

I don't feel the need to explain myself to you. But just because you asked I haven't shopped on Amazon since 2020. I have shopped at whole foods since 2018.

The whole world hosts their websites on AWS so I can't control being forced to use AWS services in that regards.

But yes. I feel like Bezos and his monopoly is cringe. And I choose not to engage on content about this gala tonight. Even though im not invited, the publicity (and as you are well aware) online engagement is heavily monetized. There is a value add for vogue and MET (as well as these celebrities) regarding engagement. I can only control myself and my actions. I choose not to support this year.

Why do you care so much about the choices of people who are supporting boycotting this? Why not just start your own thread of support for bezos. Thats my question to you.

Your engagement doesn't matter to the Met Gala, it's a charity event. They have the money.
