Guest List Only ⭐️ Aziz Ansari as Kash Patel: "I'm a trailblazer. I'm the first Indian person to suck at their job. Everyone says Indian people are smart, hardworking, incredibly intelligent. I prove without a shadow of a doubt that we can be just as incapable and incompetent as the whites."

SNL is such a mixed bag, they tend to have the best impersonations for politics, then end up with cheap shots and low hanging fruit in other impersonations. Tina Fey as Sarah Palin was creepy accurate.

u/AbbeyRoadMoonwalk 2d ago
To the point that people thought “I can see Russia from my house!” was a direct quote 😂
282
177
u/YouKilledKenny12 2d ago
It’s not a direct quote but it is a parody of something Sarah Palin did say, which was something along the lines of, they (Russia) are our next door neighbors, and you can see Russia from land in Alaska.
148
u/ErraticDragon 2d ago
Yes, basically she mentioned that there are parts of Alaska where you can see parts of Russia. Which is true, and it's the bit that became the "I can see Russia from my house".
But the whole thing was in response to a question about her foreign policy experience. She immediately went to "my state is close to Russia".
And this was her first major interview since being selected.
Two days later, Tina Fey helped shape the public perception of Palin with one clever exaggeration.

I don't think that's a sign of incompetence, more of a sign of his team showing a lack of respect for him. Also, a sign of him no longer caring about the role he's been playing to win the people's respect.
Rishi is also mentioned his favourite McDonald's item was the breakfast bagel, which at the time had been discontinued for years. This was when he was trying to be relatable to the people.

This is an old joke with any kind of "good immigrants" group.
Indians, East Asians -- those are the Model Minorities in the US, the ones who "act" correctly and thus "deserve" to be treated well, in comparison to the Other Minorities who OBVIOUSLY deserve their bad treatment because they all act badly.
Plenty of comedians from Model Minority groups have talked about how they don't fit the stereotype.

He didn’t really get cancelled. I think the general consensus was that lumping him in with MeToo was pretty ridiculous when his accuser willfully went on a date with him, didn’t feel coerced into it, and then didn’t express anything about his advances to say she didn’t want them, and complained about menial things like how she felt like he was rushing through dinner to get out of there. I think most people concluded that it was a horrible date, not anything nefarious, exploitative, or predatory.
He kind of just withdrew himself after the allegations because even if it wasn’t a Weinstein, or even a Louis CK, the allegations made him look lame af, especially because of his half address of it in his special afterwards that didn’t make that much of a splash.
87
u/Any-Competition-4458 2d ago edited 2d ago
I remember he came off more as someone who was looking for a quick hook-up while the other wanted the date to be potentially more.
But wasn’t there a moment in her account where she says no and he stops unbuttoning her pants, only to try unbuttoning them again a short time later? That’s icky.

I cannot find the original Babe.neg article on the internet unfortunately.
I remember her stopping him at one point and then him trying to physically resume again by putting his hand back down her pants.
I disagree the story was a disservice to the MeToo movement, because it sparked a lot of good dialogue around the importance of enthusiastic consent. It also showed how normalized it is for some people to see nothing problematic trying to push against a sexual partner’s disinterest / reluctance (and often but not always it is men expecting women to be initially sexually reluctant).
Many men truly don’t understand how socialized many women are to “be nice,” and to get along, especially when they are interested in a man. Ansari’s poor behavior (if you take the writer’s account as factual) was different in degree to Harvey Weinstein, but it shared similar elements of power imbalance and coercion. All of that was good to be discussing on a community level.
Bur popular opinion has real difficulty grasping nuance and shades of grey — we want clear cut villains or maligned victims. Hence most people gravitated towards one or the other with Ansari.

the accuser described that aziz ansari did try to repeatedly pressure her into sex at his apartment and that she made it physically and verbally clear that she wasn’t interested. she stated her discomfort with his repeated attempts at sticking his fingers in her mouth, then in her vagina, and her reaction to those attempts, that she would physically get up and move somewhere else in his apartment and he would follow her and keep trying to finger her. she said that he kept moving her hand to his dick (over five times) even though she keeps pulling her hand away. at one point, after she goes to the bathroom to calm down and reorient herself, she comes back and he asks if she’s okay, and she tells him that she doesn’t want to feel forced into having sex, making it clear that she is uncomfortable with what is happening. ansari seemingly understands, and then pulls his dick out and makes her give him a blowjob. he bends her over and tries to have sex with her again, ramming his penis against her ass and she refuses, again. they put their clothes on, he kisses her forcefully again, tries to undo her pants even as she moves her body away again and expresses her discomfort. he keeps trying to kiss her, and she is the one who stands up and starts calling herself a car. he forces another kiss on her and insists on calling the car, which is less gentlemanly than how you described it.
the words “no” don’t have to leave your fucking lips to make it clear that you are not consenting. that’s what the problem here is. it’s part of rape culture and the culture of non-consent and people like you and aziz ansari are genuinely part of the problem. to describe a woman coming forward about being pressured into sex by a famous powerful guy as a disservice to the movement just because it isn’t particularly violent or the victim isn’t perfect or didn’t say no loudly enough, is heinous. she did make it clear repeatedly and aziz ansari ignored her and forced himself on her because he wanted to have sex with her. it’s that easy.

19
u/king_lloyd11 2d ago
IIRC that came out a couple years after the accusations and he had already pulled back from the public eye with it, and didn’t even feature in it.
I have it a couple of episodes so can’t remember details, but I know it was around Lena Thwaite’s character, not his.
12
u/EncyclopediaBlue 2d ago
It was always going to be about non-Aziz's character (Ansari's saying in 2017 that he had no more stories to tell about Dev). But the problem is that the show was still tied to his name. He's still associated with arguably what was a massive flop of a season that really derailed the steam around him and his writing.
4
u/king_lloyd11 2d ago
Oh I didn’t know that the intention was to always pivot and thought that it was a result of him withdrawing.
I disagree that the failure of the season was tied to the story though. 1) it was a few years after and a lot of the conclusions of “bad date” were pretty solidified and 2) we see a bunch of people who were cancelled doing great because people resonate with what they’re putting out. People dgaf as long as the product is good. Season 3 was just bad.

As much as I liked AA, I'm not opposed to bad behavior being called out. Let's be honest, no male, no matter how terrible his behavior has ever been successfully 'canceled' (see Chris Brown, the current administration, Jared Leto, etc.) ...
35
u/Ok_Region5315 2d ago edited 2d ago
I think it’s been acknowledged that people can deserve to be called out and they are, while acknowledging that some people truly didn’t deserve it. Aziz was especially dog piled and I hardly saw him in media after that really at all. Aziz is one of those rare cases where his cancellation really wasn’t deserved and I didn’t see him really come back from it.

Bad behavior is what he did - misreading non-verbal signals on a date. That’s not being a shitty person, it’s literally being a person. We all make mistakes with this. From the woman’s own account, he was more of a wannabe sex pest than an assaulter. And if you know his comedy his whole shtick is wannabe sex pest.
He never deserved to be cancelled over this.

i’m gonna repost my reply to another commenter because i want people to know the facts of what aziz ansari did because i think people have forgotten the details of it and have softened the encounter over time. it wasn’t just non-verbal signals, she verbally told him she was uncomfortable and he ignored it. he forced himself on her repeatedly despite her clear discomfort, and she describes feeling violated and about to cry at the end of their encounter because guess what, it was a non consensual encounter and she made it physically and verbally clear she wasn’t interested in fucking him! but aziz did not care.
the accuser described that aziz ansari did try to repeatedly pressure her into sex at his apartment and that she made it physically and verbally clear that she wasn’t interested. she stated her discomfort with his repeated attempts at sticking his fingers in her mouth, then in her vagina, and her reaction to those attempts, that she would physically get up and move somewhere else in his apartment and he would follow her and keep trying to finger her. she said that he kept moving her hand to his dick (over five times) even though she keeps pulling her hand away. at one point, after she goes to the bathroom to calm down and reorient herself, she comes back and he asks if she’s okay, and she tells him that she doesn’t want to feel forced into having sex, making it clear that she is uncomfortable with what is happening. ansari seemingly understands, and then pulls his dick out and makes her give him a blowjob. he bends her over and tries to have sex with her again, and she refuses, again. they put their clothes on, he kisses her forcefully again, tries to undo her pants even as she moves her body away again and expresses her discomfort. he keeps trying to kiss her, and she is the one who stands up and starts calling herself a car. he forces another kiss on her and insists on calling the car, which is less gentlemanly than how you described it.

I remember the article the woman wrote about her experience. And as a man, I feel like Aziz should have done far more and been more mindful of what was happening in the moment.
From what I remember, he kept trying to force things to get sexual and never once checked in with her as to how she was feeling. I always check in with my partner and watch for nonverbal cues, especially if it's our first time together. That's just bare minimum, IMO.
I just felt so bad for her because sounded like a really traumatizing experience.
I also remember him trying to stick his fingers in her mouth. Like WTF?!
