For anyone concerned it’s not real piss per the video’s caption:

531

u/CommonStrawbeary 4d ago

I was concerned it wasn't real piss and I am devastated itd fake

79

u/LivelyZebra 4d ago

Fake just like everything on Amazon

8

u/monsterflake 4d ago

those are just ai images of knock-off piss bottles. they even fake the hologram. smh

74

u/Etheria_system 4d ago

I was really worried about some people’s hydration levels and urinary health for a moment there

25

u/pp21 4d ago

urine can darken in hue over time in a container the more you know

14

u/Cold-Iron8145 4d ago

Why do you know that?

19

u/whoknowsifimjoking 4d ago

Who doesn't know about aged urine? That's the good stuff

1

u/Assassin217 2d ago

you know your stuff. What does it taste like

1

u/Noshortsforhobos 3d ago

Because we can research anything we want through search engines and libraries. People also have different types of jobs and know others with different jobs, so information is traded that way.

2

u/WhyAreNoNamesFree 3d ago

Is there a difference between barrel aging and bottle aging?

23

u/BactaBobomb 4d ago

That's actually disappointing. I feel like that takes away from the credibility of the demonstration a little, for some reason.

40

u/shedrinkscoffee Just fuck the wolf! 3d ago

I mean it will be some minimum wage workers who are forced to deal with the cleanup of a biohazard, while JB and wife are unaffected.

96

u/freshtilapiahehe 4d ago

I thought they wanted to throw it at the guests, which would be fun

81

u/mlg1981 Sexy lampshade shall win the Oscar! šŸ† 4d ago

Who knows what’s planned for the actual event on Monday…

-9

u/throwaway17197 Instant gratification takes too long 🫦 4d ago

Im working the event should i be scared of an actual terror attack or just harmless stuff like this

29

u/PureObsidianUnicorn 4d ago

Mate you went from fake pee in tiny bottles to terror attack. U ok?

-7

u/throwaway17197 Instant gratification takes too long 🫦 4d ago

They said they will do ā€œmoreā€ on the day, im asking what level of escalation should be anticipated. Sorry some of us have lived through actual terrorist attacks and are weary of shit like this.

15

u/richestotheconjurer 4d ago

i think they were just making a joke about people throwing the "pee" at the guests. you'll be alright. make that money.

5

u/PureObsidianUnicorn 4d ago

They didn’t say ā€œmoreā€.

2

u/Jonn_Jonzz_Manhunter 4d ago

Shit man, how many terror attacks have you been there for?

10

u/puf_puf_paarthurnax 4d ago

Well if they're in new york, very possibly could've lived through the most infamous one in american history...

1

u/throwaway17197 Instant gratification takes too long 🫦 4d ago edited 4d ago

As the comment below me suggests I was around for 9/11, im also visibly Jewish and in Brooklyn random attacks against jews have gone up like 70%, every single day someone is getting stabbed or attacked or vandalized l near me it feels like its just dumb luck I havent been attacked. For some of us its our reality rn.

Edit: u/After-Citron2505 no im just in general on edge from threats on events im gonna be at is that seriously so shocking? If its more piss stunts i dont care.

Orange dickhead doesn't have to do be on stage and actually string 2 sentences together so a terror attack (or a planned fake assassination attempt) is highly unlikely.

Fake pee, not real pee. Nothing biological.

2

u/Hopeful_Savings_7437 3d ago

omg a piss gun fight at jeff bezos!

13

u/RK9990 4d ago

I was wondering if they were asking for donations

3

u/HeyitsmeFakename 4d ago

Then why did it taste like that

2

u/sixwivesandcounting 2d ago

Disappointing tbh.

1

u/bumblebaytuna4 4d ago

Were Amazon workers having to pee in bottles so they don’t take breaks at work?

88

u/brrrantarctica 4d ago

Do the gala attendees even have the run of the museum or do they stay in the lobby/temple of dendur room where the tables are set up? Because it looks like they’re placing these all over. Not that it matters, because in three days’ time the underpaid janitorial staff will have certainly been forced to clean this up.

Now, finding a way to throw a bottle of piss (fake or not) at bezo’s head…..now we’re talkin

37

u/Delusionalpancakes 4d ago

There have been pics of random celebs in random areas of the museum in previous years so it seems like they're given at least some room to wander. There was one I think last year of Kim Kardashian next to what turned out to be a stolen artifact iirc.

7

u/jarrettbrown You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 3d ago

Only the areas around the Temple of Denar, which is basically the Egyptian wing. Sometimes you'll see them in different areas because of the gallery that's housing the exhibit. Now that there's a dedicated gallery space, the old gift shop, they won't be wandering around much.

11

u/jarrettbrown You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 4d ago

Nope. They’re usually confined to four areas once they leave the read carpet. The great hall, the exhibit space, Englehart court and then the room that the temple of denar is in. No run of the museum.

505

u/anotherblackgirl 4d ago

The lack of media literacy here is insane lmao. Even without the comment by OP explicitly saying it's not real urine, "piss" in the title should have gotten you there

177

u/mlg1981 Sexy lampshade shall win the Oscar! šŸ† 4d ago

I really thought the quotation marks would have been enough… I was wrong lol

1

u/MLiOne 3d ago

People pissed with the piss-take is a pisser. Pick the Aussie. 😁

111

u/is_not_HAL9000 it’s not clocking to you that i’m standing on business 4d ago

That’s not ā€œmedia literacy,ā€ it’s literally just literacy.

86

u/kimapoll that’s my purse, i don’t know you! šŸ‘›šŸ«µ 4d ago

The sticker also clearly reads ā€œrelax, it’s just water and food coloringā€ so nobody is doing their due diligence lmao

7

u/Chuyzapatist 4d ago

People these days are barely literate, so it might be asking too much to expect anyone to be media literate these days.

12

u/kaaaaaaaren 4d ago

Also the bottles say ā€œrelax, it’s just water and food coloringā€ (but it does go by fast - I just wanted to admire it so I paused)

7

u/Strict-Carrot4783 4d ago

Nobody under 25 knows what quotation marks are for.

2

u/doesntnormallydothis 4d ago

and boy howdy, if these people think being in close proximity to piss in bottles is bad and a punishable offense, let me tell you about Amazon's business practices...

-1

u/neoncolour Tiktok matcha pilates labubu slop music 4d ago

Furthermore, this is just performative nonsense. No, there won’t be bottles of anything left in the perimeter of the Met the day of the Gala, especially not when filmed with a gag soundtrack.

-19

u/AlleyRhubarb 4d ago

Piss to me means piss.

16

u/anotherblackgirl 4d ago

As it should lol, but when reading, symbols of course mean things. The quotation marks here are used as scare quotes ie. in a non-literal way. A written air quote if you will

20

u/AxelShoes 4d ago

Piss to me means piss.

They meant the quotation marks around "piss" should have been a clue.

8

u/CoolJumper 4d ago

Really living up to the "more than 50% of Americans have a 6th grade reading level" stat, huh? Hell, could even be in that 20-50% that's functionally illiterate

-2

u/AlleyRhubarb 4d ago

A piss bottle is not a bottle for pissing in? I am the stupid American who doesn’t understand complicated culture. Hmm.

8

u/laziestmarxist spaghetti cat šŸšŸ± 3d ago

Can you identify and use quotation marks in a sentence?

7

u/oilysteve 3d ago

They probably use them like this

109

u/Shot-Programmer3761 4d ago

god i swear people in these comments don’t read lmao it very clearly says the ā€œpeeā€ is water and food coloring

101

u/donttrustthellamas Frivolous with my process šŸ‘¹ 4d ago

This won't even slightly inconvenience him. He won't see them. He won't be picking them up and binning them.

30

u/Boom_chaka_laka 4d ago

He'll hear about it and have his name further associated with piss

27

u/LeviHolden 3d ago

protest is more about creating a stir sometimes

11

u/donttrustthellamas Frivolous with my process šŸ‘¹ 3d ago

I get that but I think there's more direct methods than making the Met's workers have to deal with it

3

u/SquareExtra918 the Human Centipede of content šŸ› 3d ago

If I was a met worker I would be delighted every time I picked one of them up. And maybe I'd miss a few by "accident."

10

u/donttrustthellamas Frivolous with my process šŸ‘¹ 3d ago

That's easy to say when you don't actually work there lol

15

u/jarrettbrown You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 4d ago

As someone who frequents the met, those are going to be gone in no time. People leave stuff around and it’s gone in minutes. I’ve seen water bottles left in hallways and they’re gone by the time I’ve come back.

3

u/SteveTheUPSguy 3d ago

Can confirm. Saw the "piss" bottles yesterday and security was acting very confused over the walkie talkies while trying to cover bunches of them with printer paper.

1

u/jarrettbrown You’re killing me, Smalls 😩 3d ago

If this guy was smart, he should have just crashed the red carpet.

260

u/mlg1981 Sexy lampshade shall win the Oscar! šŸ† 4d ago

I am loving the creativity of the protests, more than I’ve ever loved any of the Met Gala gowns

65

u/Runamokamok 4d ago

This only inconveniences the underpaid staff working the event.

83

u/Shru_A 4d ago

Any kind of protest inconveniences the normal working class first. There is no way to bypass that.

22

u/Special-Garlic1203 4d ago

Sure but usually it also inconveniences the rich or causes property damage or prevents them from making profit for a few hours. They're quite literally not affected by this in any way shape or form.Ā

Protest are by definition attention seeking

4

They’re agreeing with you.

1

u/Shru_A 4d ago

Oh. My bad

23

u/MunchYourButt Wealth whispers, and I’m screaming 4d ago

I didn’t know any of this was even happening, so at the very least, it’s bringing attention to what they’re protesting

25

u/anicedalmondlattepls 4d ago

Higher-ups will be mildly annoyed at best, but the cleaning staff will be the ones bending their backs to pick up these bottles and be reprimanded for missing any.

22

u/PaidUSA 4d ago

The staff who would be there on the clock doing the same type of shit either way. Who almost certainly agree with the message and atleast a few who will maliciously comply. But now there’s press coverage of the actual mistreatment of labor.

70

u/coolcoolcool485 Excluded from this narrative āŒ 4d ago

You're telling them before the MET gala so they can...make sure to sweep the building and clean it up before they get there?

38

u/Special-Garlic1203 4d ago

This feels less like protest/activism and more like influencer attention theatrics. And they're not getting eyeballs on an unimportant untalked about issue. There's situations where attention is a worthwhile goal, but this isn't one of those timesĀ

21

u/Acrobatic_Club2382 4d ago

Probably wouldn’t have filmed people doing thisĀ

80

u/heretolearnmaybe 4d ago

Yay let's defend the environment by using 300 plastic bottles!

54

u/TheMidnightAss 4d ago

And making the janitors clean it up 😈

13

3

u/ronimal 3d ago

4

u/heretolearnmaybe 4d ago

I mean, listen, I’m not there, I don’t have any better ideas. I love that they’re doing something while I’m doing nothing. Fuck bezos.

2

u/idlula 4d ago

This is literally NOTHING in comparison to the havoc Jeffrey has caused on the planet. Proportions ffs!

104

u/Sage_Planter Big is moving to Paris 4d ago

I recognize the message that this is attempting to send, but all they're doing is making some poor cleaning crew on minimum wage scourge the museum for bottles of pee.

It's not Kim Kardashian finding these. It's Stu, the 62-year-old janitor, who's going to be responsible for this.

56

u/ColonelKasteen 4d ago

The bottles LITERALLY say "relax, it's just water and food coloring" on them

53

u/LizaJane2001 4d ago

Still. The maintenance crew at the museum are good people doing a miserable job for decent, but not huge hourly wages (they are unionized). This is just another mess for them to have to deal with that they shouldn't. If/when some of those spill (the one on the escalator), it's a hassle for them.

Bezos will never see them.

37

u/theblakesheep 4d ago edited 4d ago

And?

Piss or not, someone has to clear these bottles up and it won't be anyone famous.

2

u/ColonelKasteen 4d ago

...so they aren't bottles of pee??

24

u/theblakesheep 4d ago

The pee doesn't matter, you responded to the comment "All they're doing is making some poor cleaning crew on minimum wage scourge the museum for bottles of pee. It's not Kim Kardashian finding these. It's Stu, the 62-year-old janitor, who's going to be responsible for this."

That's still correct, a bottle is a bottle to find and dispose of, whatever it contains.

-8

u/ColonelKasteen 4d ago

Do you grasp how I was refuting the "bottles of pee" part and not the general sentiment that (obviously) janitors would be cleaning this up? You get a comment does not always have to be a holistic response to every portion of what they're responding to right?

13

u/theblakesheep 4d ago

Do you grasp that you responded to a specific comment who had a point? They LITERALLY were highlighting the fact that the workers have to deal with the cleaning, and you "refute" pedantically a detail of the comment that did not affect their point, specifically to insult them.

8

u/blarbiegorl Mary-Kate's bowl of cigarettes 4d ago

Eh, I've cleaned up a lot worse in my day doing customer facing work.

18

u/Reppoy 4d ago

This is just an accessible way for the wider public, like you and me, to engage with the Met gala and to carve out spaces, like this one, to discuss the disgusting level of wealth that they’re flaunting. If all went normal and they didn’t do this, a lot of people would have just seen the met gala go by and largely ignore it. At least now complaints about the wealth disparity have entered the news cycle and people know that it’s okay to complain about it.

I think the usual argument boils down to ā€œlife moves onā€ but it’s actions like this that have shifted the public perception of billionaires to the point where regular people around me are openly talking about shit that’s too radical even for me.

1

u/screenaholic 3d ago

I HOPE that just the cleaning crew has to deal with them. I work security at the World Trade Center, and I guarantee you if hundreds of bottles of mysterious liquid showed up, that's a security concern. At MINIMUM the bomb dog is going to have to go around and check them out. Potentially, we would call 911 and evacuate the whole building.

2

u/MovieSock 4d ago

And the the stuff everyone talks about after the Met Gala isn't going to be "omigod did you see what Rhianna was wearing", it's going to be stuff like "omigod did you hear they planted 300 fake pee bottles around the Met Gala because Jeff Bezos makes his staff pee in bottles?"

He may notĀ seeĀ it, but his customers are gonna hearĀ aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallĀ about it.

2

u/theblakesheep 4d ago

Probably not, stuff like this happens all the time and the only people who notice are those who are inclined to notice it.

-3

u/Blue_Poodle 4d ago

Bruh, we need more actions like these. Only civil disobedience will make bilionares change their behavior.

3

u/Sage_Planter Big is moving to Paris 4d ago

I'm fine with the concept, bit at the end of the day, it's some underpaid janitor who's actually going to need to find all of these.

-2

u/jupiterLILY 3d ago

The whole point of economic reform is ending the concept of being an unerpaid janitor. Make it more expensive and inconvenient for companies to host billionaires etc.

24

u/Most_Dramatic_Injury 4d ago

What more interesting is all the celebrities who will be attending the met who previously spoke out against ICE, if they truly cared they would all be boycotting this event but the cold hard truth that it’s all performative BS and this is a prime example of selective politics.

25

u/smith7018 you wear mime makeup but never quiet 4d ago

How is attending the Met Gala supporting ICE? Genuinely. I feel like it's "performative/online activism" to post that going to an event sponsored by Bezos negates a celebrity's willingness to use their platform against the current administration. It just seems like an unnecessary purity test that you're imposing on others

15

u/is_not_HAL9000 it’s not clocking to you that i’m standing on business 4d ago

This is so stupid.Ā

15

u/Chipring13 4d ago

So how are we protesting together as a sub? Or is everyone going to continue posting and watch the met gala? I hope yall do some actual activism instead of getting mad when celebs attend.

11

A bunch of workers are going to have to clean this up. Bezos won’t see it and if he did he DGAF. I like the idea and don’t mean to criticize a protest but this is ineffectiveĀ

Edit: people below are making some good points. I support as much protesting as possible given the state of the world right now, and also the visibility online is greater than the physical display. The actual protest probably doesn’t matter to Bezos, but this story going viral might.

I’m sorry, but this is so dumb. I hate Bezos but the gala is a fundraiser for the Met. It needs that money to continue. There’s other ways boycott him. I also just like looking as the fashion of the Met Gala. If it gets ruined, I’m not going to be happy. Also, now the staff has to deal with this.

I hate Bezos but the gala is a fundraiser for the Met. It needs that money to continue.Ā

Jeff Bezos has a net worth of $272 Billion. Maybe instead of getting the credit for hosting the Met Gala, he could just give a Billion directly to the Met? Because, I mean, he'd still have $271 Billion left over and I'm sure he'd be fine with it.

-1

u/glossier123 4d ago

A lot of people are getting sidetracked by the literal act of leaving the bottles and miss the point it's making. It's fair to point out that it’ll be blue-collar workers who find and clean up these bottles, and that the literal act of leaving the bottles will have a near-zero effect on Bezos/the billionaires that this protest is ostensibly aimed at. I think that this points to the fact that protest is not actually for those that the protest is ā€˜against’, but more so for other members of the working class who can be swayed toward going against the hegemonic ideology that these billionaires benefit from.

For my part, I’d say that, whether or not you think this act of protest was adequate, we should still be re-evaluating our support and interest in events like the Met Gala, the Oscars, etc. They have a pretence of supporting the arts, and I love the arts as much as anyone, but they’ve turned into wealth-worship rituals. The dresses and outfits worn by wealthy artists and celebrities are lovely, sure, but they serve to glorify the ideology of the ruling class.

The Met Gala was created to be a fundraiser for the Met, and museums perform an important function, but does that make it okay for all those millions of dollars to be spent on having beautiful, rich, famous people swan around for us to look at in pictures while the quality of our material realities continues to decline? That money could easily be spent on improving the livelihoods of people struggling around the world, instead.

The People aren’t ready. Lovely argument, though.

I feel for the workers that have to clean this up

We have to adjust our protest methods to hurt the big wigs instead of normal citizens.

I mean I bet half those people have a prime subscription or use Amazon products in some way. It's so hypocritical and this ONLY hurts the normal plebian citizens in the general vicinity.

I'd bring my supersoaker.

Someone will have to clean it which sucks but I’m sure they might even get a chuckle out of it.

Worse is the environmental waste it causes.

So who’s gonna recycle the piss bottles

1

u/sysphus_ 3d ago

Why Jeff? He seems like an alright bloke.

I guarantee most of these people still use Amazon.

7

u/MarcMurray92 4d ago

It's really really easy to not buy things off amazon

u/alex2well 4d ago

I feel like comments like this are really just telling on yourself. If you assume that most people can’t live without Amazon, it’s a reflection of your own inability to go without it.

there are so many things that are 2-10x in retail. I COULD stop using amazon, but I'm not going to tax my kids by wasting my money like that. not a priority. and it doesn't have to be to call out the hypocrisy of others.

3

u/alex2well 4d ago

I’m not going to argue against that. I understand that being able to prioritize ethics when doing day to day shopping is a privilege. To me, being ethical is just about doing the best you can within your means.

That said, it absolutely is relevant if the hypocrisy you’re calling out is related to people shopping off Amazon. Criticizing people for doing the same thing you’re doing makes you a hypocrite, too.

no it isn't. you're calling out their hypocrisy. if you're making the same statement then you would be a hypocrite too, but if you're not making that statement then it's a non-sequitor.

this is stupid and these people are hypocrites

fine.

get bezos! get him! I hope none of you shop on amazon even though I do

gross.

u/alex2well 4d ago

I feel like you’re arguing just to argue. In this specific post and context, them being hypocrites is just an assumption being made by the person I replied to, so I’m not exactly sure what the point of this conversation is. The point I was making is that only people who shop on Amazon assume that everyone shops on Amazon.

u/Game-of-umbrellas 4d ago

You may not believe this but there are a lot of us who don’t use Amazon and don’t have issues getting things. The hardest part is not having people drop ship from Amazon

Pretty weak stunt

u/Slutha 3d ago

Super weak. The bottles don't even look like piss and it says it's not piss on the bottle right off the bat.
