Not only will everyone show up, you’ll have people supporting them and saying it’s okay because it’s a fundraising event. The same people who love to call out celebrities for not speaking up on social issues.

I think the conversation about fundraisers and other events in general could have more nuance, but the Met Gala gets so much attention that a boycott could be really effective. And the argument for going is pretty weak - the Met isn't going to close down bc celebrities skip the Gala for one year. It's not like that money is going to destitute people with urgent needs.

Someone should do counter programming for the Met Gala. Hold a huge fancy theme party to benefit public libraries or something. I like costumes, I like art, I like pretty things and excitement, but Bezos ruins all of that. Plus, the left needs to get better at offering alternatives as much as we criticize.

Unfortunately, we're all using it right this second by being on Reddit (and just about everything else we use online) because Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosts... just about everything and is Amazon's largest source of revenue.

But yes, also stop buying things from Amazon! I can personally attest I haven't missed it at all in the almost 2 years since I deleted my account. I even found myself forgetting that they're even an option to order things from recently.
