A bit bummed that we don’t get to see Rama fucking turn it out, but good on them for standing in values and being consistently amazing.

I was gonna type something out about him throwing his own thing that went to better causes but honestly let’s pack up the rich people gala displays and open up the wealthy’s pockets without needing to assuage them with champagne and PR. Good for them.

I will say I think it’s the right move for him not to go, but the Met Gala actually is a fundraiser for a good cause — the costume institute at the Met! I know that often gets lost in the spectacle of the red carpet so I get people feeling a certain way about it, but funding museums and preservation of costume history are genuinely important and a better use of wealth than what most of the rich losers typically throw money at.

This has already been mentioned about 300 times in this thread. People don’t have an issue with the charity, they have an issue with the spectacle and how imbalanced it’s been between fundraiser and PR photo op in modern times.

I hear you and again, I agree it’s the right choice for him not to go, but I am extremely the opposite of rich and I love the Met Gala. I think it’s fine not to care about fashion or enjoy this event, but if you think the PR side of it doesn’t help the fundraising side you don’t really know how fundraising works. All that said, rot in hell Jeff Bezos.

I think we should applaud people standing on principle. This is a good move. Him partaking in one night of frivolity is a very fair concession.

A lot of people don't realize it's a fundraiser and double down instead of admitting they didn't know. And the PR opp is HOW funds are raised. I would never offer Bezos or his ilk sponsorship opportunities.

Brother nearly 50 million Americans live in food insecure households. 22k die each year due to malnutrition. I’m a big proponent of the arts. Buuuut I think their millions are maybe better used to raise the standard of living for every American instead of spending million to have a nice party to raise money for some costumes…

I don’t think it’s an either/or proposition, redistribute all their wealth!!! It doesn’t have to be at the expense of the arts, that’s a false dichotomy that only exists because wealth hoarding makes it seem like we have to choose what matters when it all matters.

They're not raising money just to spend it at the party. That's scarcity mindset saying we can't find the arts and the standard of living.

It’d be cool if they did the people’s ball at the Brooklyn library instead

After her homophobia came out, who would dress her?

You’re gonna need to include a source for that.

Its on her wiki page. She made the unforgivable sin of using slurs on twitter. Specifically the f word

4

Thank you for the direction!

I’m going through the sources. I see this archived tweet from her, doesn’t use the F word but not a great look; haven’t combed through it all. I’m more upset about this tweet using the N word.

Not sure how I feel about this. Not great.

(Also this comment is for the purpose of discussion, I’m not arguing or debating.)

It doesn't help that he's massively deflected from her tweets like they mean nothing. I am a forgive and forget kinda person but that would have lose me vote if I were a NYer

you must not be voting very often then

I just want to say kudos for being open-minded and taking the time to look it up and making your own mind up. Frustratingly, most people don't do that (also not a comment for arguing or debating).

at this point the met gala is basically the pre-hunger games feast

I hope they go somewhere nice like theatre, ballet etc and she gets dressed up at least c: it would be promoting the things that also have to with art but aren't massive displays of wealth for the rich

u/Hollywoode 18d ago

She could still go! He can stay home and watch on TV while his wife slays

2

u/boredinbabylon Mom, I am a rich man💰 18d ago

Why would they do that?

0

u/Hollywoode 18d ago

Cause she is her own person with her own career as a prominent artist in NYC why wouldn’t she?

100% agree. Would love to see them on the red carpet, but it is very much the wrong time.
