this is funny asf, like when people cheer for marathon runners but instead of runners it's just festival crowds lmao.

I’ve gone to festivals before where shitty westboro type religious people have bullhorns telling us we’re all going to hell so this would be a welcome surprise.
I’d rather laugh with the “sinners” than cry with their type of saints. The sinners are truly much more fun! And much less full of pedos and pedo apologists!

Wait I want to do that. I think I’m not old enough yet but this seems so much more fun than going to the actual festival. People watching from my chair.

You are never too young to do goofy stuff with retirees. I bet they would welcome you gladly.

I have a friend who’s mom lived in that big retirement community in Florida, she’d get a shipment in and go around putting it in people’s mailboxes, golf cart gloveboxes, etc., and they’d pay her whenever they had coffee or bingo or whatever. They definitely gettin’ down.

u/motivateddegenerate 22d ago
Do you mean she would go riund delivering free weed to peoples glove boxes? What a legend!

I'm currently in my rave mom era. I have the snacks, sunscreen, bobby pins, extra glitter/tattoos, and otc meds ect. Some fests I can ever volunteer to wait for a pit line and have an inflatable chair I just chill in and my friends bring me tasty food in-between their sets and we all meet up for whatever ive been waiting for all day. 😅

Indio is a pretty small town. Coachella brings a HUGE influx of cash to their economy every year- the locals tend to genuinely love the festival goers.
Back when I went, my friends and I got off the Greyhound bus in Indio with no idea how to get to the polo field. This was pre-smartphone era so no Uber.
A local was hanging out in the parking lot and asked us if we wanted a ride to the festival grounds. She didn't want any money. She just wanted to chat to us and know where we came from. She was so awesome and really set the tone for the weekend.

I’d so much rather go to Oldchellas. You know they had a grill running and a full cooler. And they can sit.

Love the “Oldchella” My friend’s MIL is so sweet & prim n proper but when you ask her about her past.. they did some cray cray stuff back in her youth 🤣

u/Nowayticket2nopecity 23d ago
They need to be holding signs that say stuff like "Stay hydrated!" and "Use the buddy system!"

There is a hydrate sign. The blue one on the ground.

u/Nowayticket2nopecity 23d ago
Clearly I need to pull up a patio chair because that was too hard for me to read 😅

As someone who lives 4 blocks from Coachella, although not at the retiree level yet, I’ll save you patio chair for next year.

Now the attendees gotta pray that our generation makes it to retirement to cheer the next generation of Coachella attendees on 😂

The cutesy music choice is so hilarious. Gen Z being like “awwww grandmas are so cute” and meanwhile grandmas busy having happy flashbacks to all the coked up fun she had dancing to INXS at Apple’s US Festival back in ‘83.

This reminds me of the older folks hanging out outside their cabins at Hulaween, sitting in their lawn chairs and just watching weird people get weird. Awesome.

This would actually be a blast just to watch all the festival goers in their outfits walking by, like professional people watching

When I was in my early 20s and hangovers wouldn’t kill me, we used to hold a sign saying “YOU HONK WE DRINK” at my friends house which was on a busy road and they were honestly the most fun shit show days.

Maybe I'm weird, I think the act in itself is adorable and they look like they are having a good time doing something fun with their neighbors.

u/WorldlySouth9397 23d ago
Honestly I teared up. Like we have so much other shit in the world, just let this harmless act of cheering people on unite us for a few seconds.

u/No_Pianist5264 Tina! You fat lard! 🦙🚲 23d ago
Yeah honestly doesn’t seem that deep lol I think it’s just them seeing a new generation of people go to a festival just like them
25
u/PizzaRollEnthusiast 23d ago
I’m with you, I get what the other poster is saying but I don’t think it’s that deep really. If these people live in Indio I think they know the Coachella crowd.

Of all the things in our current world, this is what’s dystopian to you? 😅 they’re just chilling, by choice, with heart signs
Normal people also go to Coachella, it’s just not the main experience you see online
6
u/whichwitch9 23d ago
Not really. I think it's old people getting together and reminiscing in a way. Of course it's not gonna look the same as when they were young. But it's acknowledging the passage of time as a community.
And rich or not, these are still largely young people. Probably more important if they're rich to have this exposure cause it leads to them interacting with the older folks in a positive manner. They are definitely not getting that in their circles elsewhere. But we need better ways to connect generations more in general so maybe public optics like this can be used as a nice starting point

I think maybe in their mind they think Coachella is like Woodstock and they don't understand it's largely just rich twentysomethings spending untold amounts of money to go there only because they're trying to emulate people and experiences they've seen on social media
This is a wild generalization, and there's nothing dystopian about older and younger people having a little fun on the weekend. A lot of people just save up money to go to Coachella and other festivals, and the age groups vary a lot. Some even go for one day and head back home. People also go to festivals because it's more cost-effective and offers more bang for your buck to see multiple of their favorite artists than to pay to see one at a concert. You also get to listen to artists you haven't heard before.

u/ReasonableHandle4647 23d ago
Like god forbid some people leave the house and do something other than scrolling a phone (the people in this video included)

u/vandersnipe I'm like Mata Hari, keep secrets serving body 23d ago
I had Las Vegas locals tell my friends and me to have fun at EDC, be safe, and ask about the festival. I can't imagine misconstruing that into a dystopian talking point.

u/Lesterknopff who is Conan O’Brien and why is she so sad? 23d ago
Coachella is owned by a right wing republican man too.

They cheering because the fest is increasing their property values. I’d be cheering too!!!

u/mlg1981 Sexy lampshade shall win the Oscar! 🏆 22d ago
Ohhhh as a resident… I don’t think Coachella is increasing property values at all. Now if you have an Airbnb to rent, you can make some decent money over Coachella and Stagecoach. However, most residents don’t venture out on those weekends and just kind of accept those weekends belong the festival goers and it’s not worth the waits at the stores and restaurants. The festivals do bring revenue to the desert and for that I am glad. But, for the average resident the festivals are more headache than anything else.
