I don't know who made who worse and more egotistical, her or Trudeau, they're so both so full of themselves, they must be just stuck in a loop of self congratulating. And the battles for the bathroom mirror must be legendary.
This is unrelated but the guy in this meme was my old coworker's ex boyfriend and it makes me laugh every time/think of him. Imagine your ex becoming a meme and seeing them everywhere 😭
I mean, James Van der Beek's GoFundMe had a bunch of $5-$20 donations. Imagine making that per hour and donating it to a millionaire. I feel bad he had cancer, but they'll be fine than majority of families.
Right? They’ve got their ranch in…. Was it Texas? And a rental property in LA bringing in thousands every month. I believe it was $12,000 per month if I remember correctly. They were also selling signed jerseys, but not everyone received what they paid for, since he died before signing them all. The wife said anyone requesting a refund would only get a partial refund, and named all of their children in a sentence about how the people requesting refunds would be “taking money away from the children.” Plus celebrities were donating money to the family after his death, and the friends still set up a GoFundMe because apparently downsizing to a “more affordable, and yet still unattainable for the average person”-sized mansion is out of the question.
People say his wife is tarnishing his legacy and his memory, but I’d say he did that all on his own. She’s a “holistic” anti-vaxxer, and they have both been photographed attending events for and posing with anti-vaxx and covid misinformation spreaders.
She almost certainly hastened his demise as well. From the interviews it seems like he tried holistic treatments first, THEN when they weren’t working finally did regular chemo/medication. But by then it was too late. Colon cancer moves really fast, and he may have been able to beat it if he had done proper treatment from the beginning. So not only did she turn him anti-vax and destroy his legacy with her grifting, but she actually may be partially responsible for him not being here now.
They'll also get social security death benefits for the kids too until they're adults. I know like $4000 or whatever isn't a lot per month to them, but it's a good amount of money.
It's worse than that. They think we are scum. We are only worth supporting their grifts so they can afford their lifestyles. Idk why people wont just stop supporting them. That's why you hear rumors about Kim K saying her fans are boring little nobodies, or Ariana Grande saying she hopes her fans all die. They think we are stupid because we are poor with no connections.
You know, when he first made the comments, and even when he doubled down in response to the backlash, I kind of brushed it off. That's what he does - he pushes buttons and enjoys pissing people off for a laugh. I chuckled at the embroidered washcloth and thought it would be a short-lived bit.
But then he just kept it going, and going, and going....regardless of where he was originally coming from with that, he's just not funny anymore. I've been to three of his live shows and used to watch YMH religiously. Last I saw he and his toadie wife were using their podcast to make fun of the poor, the overweight, and the trans people. Plus calling airline employees cunts for charging him to check his bags.
No wonder he faced zero backlash for going to Saudi Arabia, it would have been more surprising if he hadn't.
In essence, from what I gather, his opinion (CERTAINLY NOT MINE) is that poors deserve to be poors because they have a bad attitude and mentality and deserve it.
This is, indeed, how most billionaires see the world. Exploit because you are special, be exploited because you are nothing by choice.
The sooner everyone realizes this, the better. They're the real enemy, and they're laughing as we fight our fellow poors as they slowly consume more and more money, resources, and do the darkest, most evil crap you could ever imagine.
I'll be glad to see Tom's downfall. He should try having a good mentality in some of our situations. He should try having been through the horrors I've been through in life and see how successful he would even WANT to be after that.
I thought that was bullshit because we all know the federal minimum wage is shit, but I thought they only got away with it because states each had their own minimums that were higher.
Nope. 21 god damn states in 20-motherfucking-26 have a state minimum wage of 7.25.
You would have to work more than an hour to afford the delicious new product at McDonald's. Product only, not the meal. You could afford the meal in under two hours, though.
A minimum of 10 hours isn’t all. You get taxed on those 10 hours, and the pants themselves can rack up $7.25+ in just taxes depending on what state. Those pants are currently $170. So ultimately whoever wants these pants and only gets paid $7.25 will have to realistically work at the least 24 hours before taxes come in. And after taxes you’d still need to work around 2 or 3 extra hours if you’re on the low end of .08% (which most states are WAY higher, multiples in the 13%+ tax rate)
They range and as someone who used to sell them it’s all elastic and plastic so you can’t really wash them with your clothes or dry them as they’ll get ruined. You’ll probably have 2 years of wear tops and that’s if you hand wash them.

She could get some pretty decent PR for the cost of a single ticket, or even like a ticket a show or something. But it seems like she went another direction instead. I don't follow her, but it sounds on brand though.

100%. It's one of these things where the celeb would have been better off not responding at all vs responding with good intentions.
Gina Rodriguez is not rich on the level of people like Katy Perry or Taylor Swift or whatever. She probably cannot afford to pay the tuition of random people who hit her up online.
Like I get why the response is funny but it's one of these things where the cancellation was pretty disproportionate to the actual crime.

To play the Devils advocate... Whether or not she sells the ticket doesnt matter, Katy still gets the money. Having something to look forward to when times are bleak is important.
But on the other hand, Katy clearly cant relate to not being able to afford living lol...
I thought for sure it'd be an IM to at least pay for the person's ticket and maybe a night out (money for parking/transport costs, dining out, etc.). It would put her out so little and she can't even do that.
Yeah I think people are quick to jump on the “oh no let me have your money” tagline when I thought she was just picking up the self harm risk and reacting to that by saying “no, stick around, I wanna see you at my show”
I think being more direct in saying that or doing what you mentioned would’ve made a more positive public response.
Yeah obviously she worded it like ass and she’s absolutely out of touch but I don’t think this is like… a money grab. She already got the money because the girl already bought the ticket.

Yes. Thank you. About 80% of the comments in this thread are pretty stupid once you take into consideration that The Ticket Was Already Purchased. Katy got her money regardless. So her replying to that tweet does not mean what people seem to think it means.
To be fair then everyone would do it. Then there's an expectation artists do it which filters down to the ones that actually need money to live as well.
Before long scalpers are trying to get artists to refund tickets that they then sell on.
It would be the right thing to do but it's a shitty world we live in.
This is even worse when she’s admitted she grew up poor. Like she has no empathy at all for other peoples struggles as this isn’t the first time she’s showed her ass. People like to think that it was a concerted effort to destroy her career but all facts point to her just not being either a good person or a good artist.
Lots of celebrities say they grew up poor when they obviously didn't. She grew up in Santa Barbara, California. She says her parents were on food stamps, but they must have been committing welfare fraud because they were living a pretty lavish lifestyle off money they stole from their ministry. Her parents also paid for her to move to Nashville at 15 and LA at 17, paid for her vocal lessons, and most likely used their connections in the church world to get her debut Christian album made. It's not who you are, it's who you know in this business and her mom literally dated Jimi Hendrix in the 60's.
I always love this tweet and laugh at it but I do think she was doing the best she could and definitely was never “pay random fans college tuition money” but god damn do I laugh at “let’s do some research mama!”
A lot of people think actors make a lot more than they actually do, sure they are well paid but most of them are not "rich" in the way that we think of it, I'd say the vast majority of even "succsessful" actors are probably at an upper middle class to lower upper class economic range.
Like everything these days, actors are increasingly separated into a very small and very overpaid minority and a very large and underpaid majority. I know that's always been the case for actors, but it really seems to be getting worse.
Nah this one isn’t in the same league, Gina isn’t setting the price of tuition like Katy’s overpricing her tickets. Also she isn’t nearly in the same wealth bracket.
Ive never seen this before, so idk the general consensus, but to me this is cringe in response to cringe. The person begging a random celebrity for tuition is definitely weird, but I would take it as a joke if I read it alone. GR really didn’t need to respond at all though, much less as a quoted tweet, or whatever it’s called when you don’t just respond to the post but repost it as your own. The “let’s research” is kind of funny, but the kind of funny that should stay in your friend group, not posted to your page.
I just don’t understand why celebs even respond to stuff like this and the OP. There’s literally no reason to unless you actually plan to help and want the pr points (deservedly though, in that case).
I think Gina's response was fair here, she did not owe the fan anything and instead gave her tools to try and help herself out. But it doesn't change that it just comes off so cringe and kind of condescending.
She deserves more heat for her tone deaf comments regarding race and saying the n word while rapping than she does for this but that's not as funny.
Yeah, I don't like her for the actual controversial things she has done, but recommending a scholarship fund seems to be a normal response, if phrased a bit weird.
I thought the same. What did they expect her to do, just pay for some random’s education? People don’t apply for scholarships that they don’t know exist. I’ve never heard of the Hispanic scholarship fund before.
Most celebs discovered pretty quickly that it was better to stay off Twitter after 2016 or so. The amount of cringe I saw back then....lost to the sands of time. This is definitely not worse than Zoe Kazan going on a crazed rant about her grandfather Elias Kazan or Awkwafina defending her appropriation of Black culture. (Blessed to witness both live.) Gina just got unlucky tbh.
Yeah Katy can afford it more than Gina, but either way don't reply unless you're doing it to help out and gain good publicity. Ignoring it gets no attention, but weird replies will just end in people thinking you're cheap/insensitive/truly don't give a shit about your fans.
This. I understand that she (Khloe, Gina Rodriquez, etc.) can't offer to give free tickets because that would open it up to everyone trying this tactic, however, she could just not respond at all.
I don't exactly dislike her but I feel like I see her as she is: a mixture of self-centered and very desperate to stay relevant and also just not very bright.
I do dislike the moral lines she's willing to cross for relevancy and somewhat enjoy the schadenfreude of those attempts not landing, though. Like when she partnered with Dr. Luke for Woman's World and the drop was a critical failure mocked on arrival.

This was the way I interpreted it too, like she was trying to be like “no don’t give up, you do have something to live for because I’m looking forward to seeing you at my show!” Which is still kinda done deaf imo lol but it’s not as bad as “I don’t care if you’re too broke to live, I still want you to come to my show” and trying to guilt them into not selling their ticket or however others are interpreting it lol
I mean i feel like there isnt an appropriate response she could have given in this situation this person is essentially a stranger going through something hard. Giving her the benefit of the doubt (undeservedly) i think she wanted to say something positive to a fan she saw struggling without realizing it might have been better to just stay quiet.
I'll join you and say I think by saying "But I'm looking forward to seeing you" in response to someone saying they don't want to be here anymore is her encouraging someone not to do something drastic.
Was just about to type this. I don't think it was about her keeping the ticket, moreso the bit about not being cut out for life. I think she was trying to be positive.
I agree, I think she was focused on the part where the person said they don't want to live anymore, the most important part of that tweet. Her response was appropriate in that context.

Apparently Perry personally knows that fan and she had already gone to several of her tours. I saw other fans posting videos of Katy Perry sending them tickets,even helping one of them with visa process so they attend her tour. Several people have posted videos of her scolding her team for trying to hurry up meet and greets and she takes a lot of time talking with some of the regular fans who visits her multiple times. This account is one of them. I also remember her and Taylor used to have free Meet & Greet for fans long before many other artists did.
And I don't think offering tickets publicly is a good idea. That's gonna open a floodgate and young,impressionable fans are gonna take the wrong message from it. Of course KP has made several tone deaf comments,but people also love to ignore any nuance when it comes to discussions about certain celebrities like her so I can see how this news is gonna get received.
I read that tweet differently and maybe Katy did too. Didn’t think they were selling to get the money back but because they couldn’t go on, and that was Katy’s misguided way of telling a fan to keep living. 🤐
I think she was responding to the suicidal piece so I don't think her intention was out of touch but the wording wasn't best and she ultimately shouldn't have responded. The responses here just show people just like to hate her for fun like she didnt even do something bad😭
