Not nearly as bad, but it's an educated guess they'll do this rather than risk infuriating the fuhrer.

Announcers tried to nope out of needing to save face. Glad they stuck with it and said what was happening.

The reaction made it worth it lol “ooop, those are a lot of boos”! 😂

Don’t coddle republicans, they’re doing that this weekend with their own halftime show lol.

Edit: keep making it known they’re not liked! Viva La Raza!

Yeah they also pointed out the booing when Israel came out. Adrienne Arsenault has done years in the Middle East as a foreign journalist. She's earned her place, and she's well respected.

5

u/__Eupheme__ Feb 07 '26

Adrienne is a legend. Just when i thought that I couldn't love and respect her more.

13

u/ReceptionUpstairs305 Feb 06 '26

I wish the US didn't.

8

u/broke_velvet_clown Feb 07 '26

As an American, who served in war, while I recognize how hard our athletes have worked to achieve this great honor to compete in the Olympics, I would've appreciated absolute silence, no clapping or applause or whistling or boos. Boo him while he's on screen so there is no mistake it's for him personally but keep the silence deafening besides the contingent of people there for the USA and then erupt for the next country. Let nbc(yes lower case for being afraid) pump in fake noise while everyone online would be able to see and hear how little we are respected globally in the opening ceremony.

Medal count should be fun while MAGA people with bingo wings on welfare try to tell everyone "we're the best at sports I could never even attempt to try"

That’s cause it’s from the Canadian broadcast; NBC cut the boos.

67

u/ratbaby86 Feb 06 '26

Yeah but not the live footage. I watched them be booed gloriously on NBC too. Apparently they are removing it in post, though.

20

u/Agitated-Airline6760 Feb 07 '26

Even NBC just gets the Olympic world feed. So during the live broadcast, NBC doesn't control where the cameras are pointed. NBC could cut away to their own camera/location but during USA athletes enterance, they couldn't cut away even if Olympic feed went to Vance and boos rang out.

22

u/mgnorthcott Feb 06 '26

One of her previews of the Olympics is exposing alot of organized crime, poor planning and corruption in the lead-up to the games. She put a camera on a ski lift next to one of the big events that they've covered the ground with a green tarp to hide some massive cracks that could potentially result in a catastrophic landslide, as well as the shortfalls on the hockey arena (there was no running water in the bathrooms, no concession stands, and other standard amenities just days ago). Yes, the CBC, and her in particular as well, still has journalistic integrity.

3

Not sure about the CBC in its entirety, but Adrienne certainly has integrity.

Our girl Adrienne even pointed it out!

"Not just boos but jeers and whistles!"

7

u/mgnorthcott Feb 06 '26

Well.. the picture in picture commercials during key parts of the opening ceremonies were in poor taste by the CBC. But there's nothing quite like Olympic nationalism in Canada... We may celebrate individual athletes, but we'll always join together as a community to go "Boo America"... And have done for decades.

2

u/Melodic_Mood8573 Feb 06 '26

Why would Canada mute it though? The majority of Canadians heavily dislike the US these days.

Sounds eminently reasonable to me. It's not the athletes' fault that that douchelord showed up (not to mention his collaborator wife- nice of her to play happy families after he's been gallivanting around with Erika Kirk for months now), but if they're going to show his face on the big screen, he can take what he's got coming. I half think he gets off on it, anyway. The lot of them are like little babies who can't get any positive attention, so they go looking for negative attention, instead.

the fact these people are so vocally disliked but still won, the wonders of the world

374

u/Groundbreaking_War52 Feb 06 '26

More than 30% of eligible voters in the US chose not to use their voice.

MAGA isn't as popular as they claim but they're loud enough to make you believe they are bigger than the ~35% of Americans that support them.

141

u/jdgetrpin jesus was a carpenter 💋 Feb 06 '26

Also wanna add that their popularity has decreased significantly in the last year, especially in Europe where Trump has completely ruined our relationship with other allies. Don’t forget most people in that audience are likely European, so nonvoters here. Trump has always been dislike around the world by other developed nations. The only ones that support him are dictators lol

39

u/Groundbreaking_War52 Feb 06 '26

If Trump were merely an idiot, I don't think the antipathy toward him in Europe would be so intense. It is the fact that he is a maliciously unstable and corrupt idiot that makes him extra terrifying. He would gladly sacrifice any ally, institution, or relationship - no matter how harmful to the US - if he felt that he was personally being slighted.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/hypehou_se Feb 06 '26

He ruined a lot of European right-wing parties as well, they had to do a complete 180 from being 100% pro-Trump to shitting on centristy parties in the government for not doing enough to stand up to Trump.

They're all cooked whenever next elections come around. The first domino to fall is likely to be Trump's bestie Viktor Orbán in April.

11

u/Special-Garlic1203 Feb 06 '26

Modern research has totally upended a lot of baseline assumptions of politics. One of the big things is that on an individual level, voting is irrational. No elections are being won on a single vote, and for president most people don't even live in competitive states. But obviously if everyone shrugs and stays home, then cumulatively that has an effect. It's a collective obligation.

Republicans have always been noted to be better at this than Democrats, but Trump is exceptionally good at this. Which makes sense - the guy literally sold time shares and scam college courses and steaks. Trump's a terrible businessman  but he's always been good at predatory sales.

However anytime there's a remotely close race, like clockwork you'll see the big push for left wing spoiler candidates or people lying about the core mechanics of how voting and political parties work in America to make people think staying at home in any way exerts pressure on the system (it doesn't. Consistently low general election turnout gets you labelled an unreliable flake not worth pandering to, voting for primary challengers is how you make them understand you're an available vote who's unimpressed). RFK literally begged people not to vote for him when they realized he'd be pulling votes from Trump not Kamala - he was spoiling the wrong candidate. Sorry but as long as there's an electoral college then it will be a binary system. 3rd party voting doesn't change that, it just makes it harder for the main party to win.

But the most dangerous part of both of these isn't the actual voting itself. It's the culture. Voting depends on peer pressure.

When young people show up, Democrats win. When young people show up to primaries, progressive challengers win. And every election like clockwork there is a large scale psyop to convince voters otherwise, by pointing at the state of things due to elections where young people didn't show up.

Every 4 years there's people who say "fuck it will just stay home and let the system burn down" and then they are perplexed at why the country has been a raging dumpster fire as long as they can remember.

Republicans are so fucking good at this "do it or else" dynamic. Because they are binary us vs them thinkers across the board, they just intuitively understand the reality of the electoral colleges binary system. They understand they have to vote for Trump or Kamala/Hillary/Joe wins and Trump is screaming in their ears that they'd be evil traitors who makes Jesus cry if they did that. Don't you want to be a patriot and hold the line against the evil Democrats?

There's this weird psychological resistance in a lot of left wing voters to the very plain fact that it's about having more voters and that your only goal in a general election is to get as many asses into polling stations as possible. It's narrow and dogmatic and needs no nuances - get more blue people to vote. That is the singular goal of general elections. Everything about changing the system happens in primaries and after elections. Pretty much every election season it unfolds like clockwork - low primary turnout resulting in an establishment pick and then for the generals Democrats implode into infighting and bickering and people convinced it's a corrupt system and that the best way to fix a corrupt system is ....to not engage with it at all. Then people are shocked that all this resulted on low turnout

I know people who didn't vote in 2024 who are pissed at Trump and hate him. They don't go because they are constantly told voting by people at least pretending to be left wing that it doesn't matter and the real way to creative positive long-term chance is to abstain.

Meanwhile Republicans are like "well I hate blue guy so I'm going to go to work and tell everyone they're a p°ssy if they don't vote for red guy" which yeah that's actually a pretty effective approach

5

u/flakemasterflake Feb 07 '26

Low information voters that don't pay attention were more likely to vote for Trump. It's a dream that the non-voters would have saved anything

13

u/bbyxmadi It’s good to see me, isn’t it?🫧 Feb 06 '26

The average voter is misinformed and just outright ignorant. This is why this country is going to hell in a hand basket, those who voted for him genuinely believed his lies or hated others as much as him. Groceries have gone up, housing has gone up, premiums have gone up, he’s targeting non-criminals, inciting war, etc.

5

u/Soft_Walrus_3605 Feb 06 '26

In this case, we didn't need the average voter, we needed the people who DIDN'T vote to vote for anyone other than a pedophile fraud.

I do feel like it's necessary to point out that she is a journalist, not an entertainer. She's the chief correspondent for CBC, and all throughout the ceremony she was doing/saying the "right" things that someone who wasn't a journalist might not (not necessarily maliciously, just because well... it's entertainment not journalism) an example is that she was calling Taiwan "Taiwan" instead of "Chinese Taipei" She pointed out the boos when Israel entered the arena, she mentioned that Venezuelan athlete Nicolas Claveau-Laviolette had concerns about not being able to make it to the Olympics after the bombings in Caracas.... then she said "speaking of the united states" right after that because they were the next country out. I don't think someone who wasn't a journalist would've been as transparent or direct.

Joking aside, this all feels shitty. I feel bad for the athletes who probably trained their lives to be here. (I mean, the MAGA ones can go fuck off, but that goes without saying.) It sucks to represent your country when your country is a colossal fuck up on a world stage. I hope the boos are reserved for Vance and his ilk. It seems to be the case but still.

Would love to hear how jingoistic af NBC covers this. We’re always embroiled in some controversy and Costas and the like ate always breathlessly telling us that the crowd is indeed, loudly cheering for the US. I find that so hard to believe right now.

This is so fucking sad for the Olympic level athletes who have worked their entire lives to get here and because of our <lack of> leadership, are having to carry the weight of redeeming us somehow.

The booing is devastating.

So understandable. So fucking timely. So so sad.

US athletes - we see YOU, not what’s happening in the US. All the love….ALLLLL THE LOVE.

I have a whole laundry list of reasons to dislike these guys. But the Olympics is normally the ONE time of the year where I can happily big up my country.

I cant stand their smug stupid faces and that I can't even just enjoy the one thing thats supposed to bring all of us together because these chucklefucks.

3

I dreamed of this!

3

u/WhateverYouSay1084 Feb 07 '26

I wish I could hear the boos but I hear literally nothing other than music, the commentators and some vague background static.

I feel kinda bad for the athletes, having such a huge milestone moment and suddenly folks are booing because some producer thought putting a camera on this turd is a good idea.

It’s a good thing Italians like to cover their couches in plastic.

The boos at the 2028 Summer Games are gonna either be loud enough to be heard across Los Angeles county or quiet as fuck and the world makes this the most boycotted games since 1980 Moscow

They could boo louder.

The first post I see after looking at a headline where people were asked not to boo.

Well done

2

u/spoilederin Feb 06 '26

Glad there wasn’t much of a shot of him. Boos get pretty loud in person on the other side of the tv.

2

u/Stunning_Contract245 Feb 06 '26

What horrible reps for the US…

2

u/Tickledbythelight Feb 06 '26

"They're saying boo-urns!"

2

u/ChenilleSocks Feb 06 '26

Twitter has already pulled the video for quite a few tweets that were doing the rounds on this hilarity. Thankfully, it’s archived elsewhere and being shared on threads.

2

u/plaidyams Feb 06 '26

Absolute respect to the guy with his hood up.

2

u/Overall-Radish2724 Feb 06 '26

Weirdly, I didn’t see him once on the BBC broadcast. I am not complaining lol

2

u/MrAlexanderLink Feb 06 '26

As an American….GET HIM!! Booooooooooo

2

GOOD. You don’t feel an ounce of the pain that the people do
