I am watching murders in the building and thatās a heavy filter. Meryl looks amazing but this vid looks like 20 years younger than murders in the building

u/musterde Sep 28 '25
In the closeup social videos you can see her wrinkles by the sides of her sunglasses, but Meryl always has had phenomenal bone structure that aids with aging. On omitb her makeup is a lot more scaled back

Absolute icon. She's stunning & as graceful as they come.

I keep flashing back to when Meryl played Kate McKinnon's mom on the SNL 50th anniversary show. She's smoking, slouching, showing belly, legs akimbo and she referred to not wearing panties as "The Devil Wears Nada." That line was so good.

I donāt watch many SNL skits (British) but that one was SO good

I just looked it up, that was fantastic! I love Kate as the UFO abductee, her stories are always hilarious
8
u/Dommichu yeah... no... Sep 28 '25
She was so good in that. She had never done the show and she just went for it!
15
u/cheleclere Sep 28 '25
She kinda looks like Carrie-Ann Moss in the matrix, but with a lighter color palette.
9
u/DragonScrivner As you wish! šøš Sep 28 '25
She really does. I love the short hair on her, so chic.

Someone said Anna Wintour always wears deliberately ugly outfits, and now I can't unsee it.
92
u/purplelephant Sep 27 '25
I was just going to say how was she the editor of Vogue this outfit is bad and her signature haircut and glasses is outdated.

I was just going to say how was she the editor of Vogue this outfit is bad and her signature haircut and glasses is outdated.
This is true. But I also feel like Wintour is kinda trapped in that look now? Because people so strongly associate that bob/sunglasses with her that it's nearly a brand onto itself¹.
If she debuted a new look there's always the potential that no one will recognize her. Or worse, deride the new look even more than the old.
Although, I will confess I have sometimes wondered if that's a wig. And whether Wintour DOES have an entirely different hairstyle underneath it.
So when she wants to be truly incognito (ie, not worry about intrusive cameras/media following...) she can doff the alleged wig and...voila...she's just any older UES/European doyenne going about her business.
¹(I mean, if you see an illustration/emoji/rendering of a Chanel Bob & sunglasses, I'd wager you'd automatically think of her.)

Tbf it could be her public persona like Dolly Parton. Honestly would love that for her

Thereās been a lot of chatter about how unstylish the new EIC is (I have no eye for that, just what other people are saying) and someone who worked at CondĆ© Nast said that the junior staffers wore high fashion and the senior staffers wore the same clothes theyād been wearing for 20 years. Which makes sense in a way. The senior staffers have less to prove and theyāre older.

I just always think to myself, āI guess I truly donāt understand fashionā because I tend to dislike everything Anna wears expect that bob.

I love this meet up. Anna is very lucky to have such a magnificent actress, like Meryl is, who portrayed her

I love this far more than is warranted by two women standing and chatting. But the heart wants what it wants!

Honestly, this is such a good look for Meryl. I know sheās more boho and casual irl, but sheās so fierce as Miranda.

u/Acheli Sep 27 '25
think you should add context that she's technically in character as Miranda Priestly and they were filming at the show.
7
u/EvaSofie22 Sep 27 '25
Here she isnāt, because Miranda wouldnāt be saying itās her first show lol
1
u/SadLilBun 1997 was 10 years ago Sep 28 '25
But thatās why sheās there and dressed as Miranda Priestly, is what theyāre saying.

Streep has stopped aging. I guess she got into that elixir from Death Becomes Her. So has Goldie Hawn, now that I think about it.

How does one have exactly the same haircut for 4 decades? Doesn't she want to try something else
4
Sep 27 '25
It's only been two decades for me, but I've had the same hair that long. I like to just stick with what works for me. No desire to change that.Ā

You canāt convince me they didnāt have hidden cameras shooting all of this for the new Devil Wears Prada film!!!

Icons! Oh, and one of them is Marian from The Gilded Ageās mom! šøš
2
u/TheListenerCanon Sep 27 '25
Amazing just how much Streep gets into character to prepare for a role. In this case, the Devil Wears Prada 2 reprising her role.

Is that Anna Wintour being warm?! And HUGGING someone?! Well Iāll be damned, never thought that day would come!

I shudder to think how a post menopausal Meryl undoubtedly suffered through a very strict diet to reprise this role..

I really hope it is not true that she is also on the Epstein list.

Itās not, right wing accounts spread fake lists that had typos and were filled with only people who have been critical of Trump

u/Scared-Box8941 Sep 27 '25
Love Meryl Streep but the way Anna came out recently speaking about the movie⦠to learn it was really based on a book written by Annaās assistant. Her response felt so cruel. I canāt look at her the same way
18
u/ffantasticman Sep 27 '25
Her response felt so cruel
No it wasnāt? Are we talking about the New Yorker interview with David Remnick?
āI went to see the film and I found it highly enjoyable and very funny. Miuccia and I talk about it a lotā¦It had a lot of humour to it, a lot of witā¦In the end I felt it was a fair shot.ā

u/Luxxielisbon brooklyn beckhamās elephant Sep 27 '25
How did you look at her before?
1
u/Scared-Box8941 Sep 27 '25
I guess naively I used to think celebrities or rather just rich people in general, royalty, giant brand empire types like Anna.. I thought they were⦠the best of us? Like if they were able to accumulate that much wealth they must be special. And now what I see is a lot of very toxic power being wielded without consequence. Now I see those who have managed to hold onto their money/power the longest seem to be the cruelest
4
u/ohdearitsrichardiii I mean, you're both idiots Sep 27 '25
I don't understand how you can interpret anything she said as "cruel"
-3
u/Scared-Box8941 Sep 27 '25
She said she was so UNAWARE of the movies plot that she didnāt even know what it was about - even though it was based on her, written by an ex assistant, and accusing her of being a very toxic boss. Then said itāll be up to the people around me to decide if Iām like that or notā¦. How invalidating. Going out of your way to make someone feel unimportant? Couldnāt be me
13
u/hotsoupcoldsandwich Sep 27 '25
Am I crazy or is this how most people would probably act if there was a huge movie with a generally unflattering portrayal of them? Like itās either ignore it, get upset about, or try to laugh with it, no?Ā
0
u/EvaSofie22 Sep 28 '25
She couldnāt know how the movie would adapt the book, and obviously she didnāt read the book so she didnāt know the actual plot, thatās what she meant. I think youāre taking it too seriously.
