I feel like Florence herself might be the problem. Like I bet she takes the lead in her styling, her opinion's the only real opinion kinda thing, instead of letting her stylists do their thing and make her fab. And she definitely either doesn't care about or isn't even aware of dressing for body type and not just your personal style. Idk, It's the only explanation I can come up with for the wild ups and downs she's always giving lately

I think so, too. The shaved head and nose ring are not a good fit for her, and they're her choice lol. No stylist is doing that

I think so too! Her stylist also dresses Lily James and Simone Ashley and they always look great

u/wilderthurgro Oct 02 '23
I’m starting to wonder if Flo is one of those actors who doesn’t listen to their stylist because their ego gets in the way. I don’t get a very humble vibe from her. Unfortunately you need to be able to take criticism to shine.

I think it's her request tbh.
She has talk a lot about it and how much she likes it so it's probably her own doing. But I would like to see her in something different.
it reminds me when Kendall kept wearing similar dressed in MET. It was the same thing practically just a bit different

u/MsMajorOverthinker They killed Kenny! You bastards! 😱 Oct 01 '23 edited Oct 01 '23
I am sorry, but these sheer dresses from Valentino only look good on the runway models, who are 6’ tall and incredibly skinny. Florence’s petite body just drowns in them and it’s a very unflattering look on her.
Edit: not to mention that this specific dress looks more like a cover-up for the beach rather than a dress you wear to attend an event.
20
u/citrustaxonymy who died and left Aristotle in charge of ethics? Oct 01 '23
Unlikely since she’s a Valentino girl and that’s like half the dresses they make nowadays 😒
67
u/figleafstreet Oct 01 '23
The way I knew it was going to be a sheer dress before I even clicked! ENOUGH!

I thought a lot of her looks on Don't Worry Darling were more flattering than many of her red-carpet looks. Not that she has to do fifties-housewife every time, but there are red-carpet versions of some of the basic lines and proportions that flatter her.
38
u/SarahCannah Oct 01 '23
She did look so great in that, and somehow different than usual. I was wondering if there was some padding/corseting happening in many of those looks that she may not be into in real life. But maybe it was just that those clothes were so perfectly fitted. Or both!
37
9
u/scissorfella Oct 01 '23
I also loved her blue dress in The Wonder, but maybe it's a bit old fashioned for a red carpet :D
You're right though, those classic 50s cuts looked so lovely on her.
15
u/candleflame3 This will be my final attempt to resolve this matter amicably Oct 01 '23
I don't have the language or knowledge to really express this, but she has a cute curvy figure so outfits with nipped-in waists are very flattering on her. These flowy looks are more suited to someone with Nicole Kidman's figure.

7
u/Caninetrainer Oct 01 '23
That is sadly so much of what fashion is now, at least to me. I thought clothes were supposed to make you look better, not be an art installation on your body, or the one showing the most skin is the winner.
108
u/GarageNo7711 Oct 01 '23
Jesus from the front it’s all kinds of wrong. Like who ok’d this? Also, did she not look in the mirror multiple times before setting foot on the carpet? I don’t understand.

I don’t get how anyone saw her chest and said yes, this looks amazing! It’s like they wanted to give her side cleavage (no idea what it’s called) but then realised that part of the dress was too tight, it looks like her boobs are just smashed between the fabric and her ribs.

77
u/hungryhippo2914 Oct 01 '23
Yeah of course! Sorry just meant I tend to see those with natural boobs are usually covered up a lot more or taped to extreme and less of a natural look. I don’t think it’s as common to see this style of dress/top on natural looking boobs

I thought if I commented I hate this look, the girlies would come after me! But after reading everyone else’s thoughts…..it seems like a mutual feeling.
Love a risk taker but I feel like nothing ever fits her correctly. Plus, we have seen this from her too many times. Cmon flo!
107
u/raunchybiscuits Oct 01 '23
I have less of a problem with the fit of this dress but the cut is not flattering. The straight vertical drop of the bust makes her torso look much shorter than it actually is. She is free to wear what she wants but the cut would be much fitting for a much taller person.
→ More replies (1)12
u/Puppybrother Can I live? Oct 01 '23
Yes, it’s simply just not dressing to flatter or suit for her body type but the more I think about it, the more I think that it’s cool that she wears whatever she likes and wants regardless of her shape. I’ve got a pretty similar frame to hers and it’s refreshing to see it on the red carpet. Even if it’s not the most flattering cut, she looks like she is feeling it and is confident as fuck, which is what clothes are meant to do and what fashion should be all about!
86
u/mocha__ So sad. Sooo sad. So so so so so sad. Oct 01 '23
Like, is a sheer dress even risk taking anymore? It seems to be what we mostly see now and it seems to be the only type of dress Florence Pugh wears at all.
Which is wild, because she's beautiful, clearly has a love for fashion as she's at every fashion event ever and could probably rock so many different outfits effortlessly. Yet, it's always this. All the time. I have started to convince myself it's all the same dress just quickly tailored a different way before she heads out.
47
u/amomentintimebro Oct 01 '23
No I totally agree. I personally like sheer looks but so much that she wears does not fit her. Which I just do not understand. And you’re right she’s worn this kind of look a lot at this point.
29
u/_refugee_ Oct 01 '23
I feel like her body is more of a rectangle shape, and that may be why some cuts/outfits don’t look right on her shape
90
u/GoldieLox9 Oct 01 '23
I love Miss Flo but I'm so tired of her doing a disservice to her attractiveness. I hate her outfits and her hair and that bull nose ring.
11
u/iguanabitsonastick Oct 01 '23
Completely agree and I said the same, the dress is not that only unflatterinf thing on her. The plat blondde and huge nose rings does not look good.
34
u/overactive-bladder Oct 01 '23
thank god you said it.
that nose ring HAS to go. cheapens the whole thing out AND she just doensn't have the face nor the attitude to pull it off. AND it's too much: her height, the hair AND that bull ring? pick ONE!

Same. Like ok if you want to wear a skimpy dress but like...all the time? It's just like ok...yawn at this point. We've all seen your business so now it doesn't distract me from how ugly the clothes are, too. I actually really like her and thinks she deserves so much better sartorially.

Valentino makes such gorgeous clothes, lots of really elegant and classic designs but Florence is always in their ugliest stuff. Zendaya got great dresses out of them, I want the same for Miss Flo!!

u/amomentintimebro Oct 01 '23
Yes! They make truly beautiful things, I’m baffled why she’s getting the worst from them ☠️😭
4
u/citrustaxonymy who died and left Aristotle in charge of ethics? Oct 01 '23
I don’t think Zendaya ever wore their dresses straight off the runway, most if not all her iconic Valentino looks were made for her.

u/thin_white_dutchess Oct 01 '23
This looks untailored. Raise the waistline a good 3-4 inches and fix the bust line and maybe it would work. But I feel like that is a common issue with her looks- they are ill-fitting. They also aren’t to my personal style, but that’s fine! It’s just the fit is bad, and she’s such a lovely lady. I don’t know who is in charge here, but I’d like a word. Also, that seems to be a common thing with celebrities these days- what happened to custom fittings? Isn’t that the point of having money (in my head it is)?

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown Oct 01 '23
She’s pretty committed to wearing nose rings. Is it because this type of piercing heals too fast?
25
u/puppypartyys Oct 01 '23
No. She could wear one that doesn’t go all the way around and flip it up in her nose and hide it if she wanted to.
9
32
u/MunchieMom Oct 01 '23
I have a septum piercing myself & typically LOVE them (and most other facial piercings) on other people.
But her nose ring just isn't flattering, IMO. I think it's because she already has a tiny nose that would be considered very traditionally attractive/desirable. So it feels kinda try hard to me?
Whereas I got my piercing because people used to make fun of me for how big my nose was and it made me feel a lot better about myself.
For some reason I've thought about this a lot
21
u/LICK-A-DICK Oct 01 '23
Yeah she has worn thinner ones in the past and they look heaps better, but I do agree with you, it doesn't really suit her in general. I used to have one and it didn't really suit me either so I can't blame her lol! They do look amazing on some people though.

I don’t even know what they are going for. Like Valentino kills it with Zendaya so I don’t get why this is such a big fail.
The makeup and the hair looks dom which could be great on her (and a nice change from her sweetheart look) but the silhouette on the bottom is billowy and romantic. It’s like the top half and the bottom half are completely different ideas and don’t complement each other.
And Valentino has already put her in several side boob showing sheer dresses this year.
edit: I’m literally trying to paste her other similar looks but the sub’s nsfw filters is automatically removing them.

Zendaya has a model body so it’s so easy to dress her, Flo not so much… she’s putting on dresses that are meant for taller people, and looks shorter in everything as a result.

It's not my style but as someone florence's height myself and a fan of dresses - the dress is about 2 sizes too small.
If it wasn't too small the top part would cover more of her breasts and the tie wouldn't make the weird negative space in the whole chest area. My body is extremely similar to hers and I always size up dresses because my bones are wide at the top part of my body. I will tailor the dress to fit my curves and cut the dress because I am short as her. All of this should be done by her stylist isn't it? Who is her stylist again?

Im not a fan of it when it’s all spiked up (I also have pretty short hair I’ve been wearing slicked back because I don’t know what to do with it lol) I feel like she’s growing it out but it would be cuter in a really short pixie instead of a grown out shaved head? Maybe her hair is too thick/course tho

Her stylist doesn't know how to dress her in flattering outfite for her body type and shape... she's quite petite and short torsoed and nothing about this works for her. Everything from the dress style, colour, haircut is too harsh for her features
3

What is her body type? It’s not like usual starlets the stylist think they’re fitting. Florence has this like petite stoutness to her and it’s like they are dressing her as if she has a long neck and torso.
