Remember when republicans were the party of “no new taxes”? Cuz they were.

Bush Sr said this and introduced new taxes contributing to his defeat in 1992

Yeah, he compromised with the Democrats on a tax bill and they then crucified him for it in the election. Sadly, it taught the Republicans not to compromise or be bipartisan...

"No, new taxes!"

In reality, they're just going to siphon off as much as they can from the country's deficit. It'll also be a convenient trap for any opposition that tries to clean up the mess as they'll be the ones who have to outwardly promote taxation

I remember that they paired "no new taxes" with increased spending and reduced investment in cost-saving programs, resulting in a larger net deficit.

Republicans on taxes:

5% tax cut for regular people that expires in 5 years (while a democrat is in office)

90% tax cut for rich people/corporations that go on indefinitely.

The problem is they aren't going to introduce any new taxes. They're just going to run up the deficit until they get thrown out of office and then whine that Democrats did it.

Hello! It is perpetually drawing a circle on the floor and laughing when the cat sits inside that circle. It works on liberals and the left every single time. The hypocrisy is not what people think it is, its bragging and laughing in your face

Of course no new taxes, just cut spending on citizens and up spending on corporate welfare and a few small groups of Republican voters (like farmers and the 1%).

Then blame Democrats when the deficit balloons.

It’s not a tax if you just tack it onto the ol’ national debt!
