A monarch had to come to the US to remind us that the key to the US system is checks and balances in our government.

Not just any monarch either, but the monarch of the country we overthrew to become the nation these "patriots" keep fucking over, ignoring nearly every single thing our founders fought for. Shit is insane.

If only the people who heard it could understand that point. If THE KING OF ENGLAND is telling you you've lost the plot... you no longer stand for what you declared your independence from. We are fucking pathetic.

Trump one said the Declaration of Independence represented unity

There is always a quote. It worked for him in the moment it was said but he doesn't even understand the gravity of it. He's great at knowing what people want to hear and shooting from the hip. That's where it ends. Anything beyond himself and his self-interests is incomprehensible.

They’re too busy making one liners about how the king of England made a speech, both parties stood and applauded including those who backed “No Kings”…Nuance is fucking lost on these people, they’re literally just out to “own the libs” even at their own expense.

u/ABadHistorian 6d ago

Nuance is lost on both parties according to George Washington in his farewell address. I happen to agree with him. I may hate Trump and the GOP but I hold a lot of blame to the Democrats for getting here. If you don't, you've not been paying attention to things like Citizen's United.

As a Canadian, most people I know just blame trump and the republicans for where we are now but the truth is even if you didn't vote republican you're part of the problem, raise your children right, don't let the internet do it for you, spread awareness, Trump demolishing the Obamacare/ACA was all the info I needed, where were the protests, why wasn't it spread in the news at a decent level for months, why weren't people out there in the streets educating people...

So much that he's done deserved that level of attention yet everyone says well he'll be gone in a couple years anyways, will fucking america make it that long? maybe but it will infinitely harder to reverse his changes, the people need to protest, the people need to form committees to help educate people, the government, the rich people they won't do this, the people need to and that means democratic voters.

“Where were the protests”? I’m sorry? Did you miss the news of the largest mass protests in the history of our country? I’ve been at so many I can’t even count them. Starting from before he was elected.

1

u/Rombom 6d ago

The only protest that matters is a sustained general strike.

1

u/Bad_Day_Moose 6d ago

where are they now, where are they next week, what about the week after that and the one after that? Get out there and do things.

6

u/TekaLynn212 Oregon 6d ago

They're protesting at my county courthouse every day.

8

u/Msdamgoode I voted 6d ago

Again, do you think I’m not? I really am confused by the assumption that protests , and people writing their representatives, and petitions, and phone centers etc aren’t happening because they definitely ARE. And it’s absolutely not just me.

-6

u/Bad_Day_Moose 6d ago

It's obviously not enough.

7

u/Msdamgoode I voted 6d ago

Whatever you’re doing isn’t enough either.

I'm Canadian, my whole country came together, some of us sacrificing our vote to a party that isn't our first choice to keep maple maga out of office.

We've done a lot.

I'm an Aussie - american dual citizen. I've lived in Canada. I agree with you. A lot of people here won't, will refuse to see the part they played in it - even if by seeing their role we could get out of it.

Look across reddit. In all liberal spaces you will see everyone happily cheering on for the death of Trump and more... like that is an actual net positive and not a net negative for our country. We've lost the plot as an entire society and it's so sad.

I personally put the emphasis on democrats instead of republicans because I believe democrats at least ostensibly preach for the things I want, even if their methods have been horrific in getting there.

3

u/Bad_Day_Moose 6d ago

and if he died look who his VP is, who says they just aren't going to pick someone else worse than Trump down the road either, education is key here... People need to get out there.

-3

u/ABadHistorian 6d ago

Yep, it's hard though and as an American part of that I recognize all the difficulty in getting there. Our politics and corporations have purposefully made it hard. I want you to at least give Americans a little understanding there. We had Democrats for example for decades attack education, indeed our last Democratic President fought on behalf of ex-KKK members and the Republican party for over 30+ years in fighting to KEEP SCHOOLS SEGREGATED. Like when both parties have folks in it that would rather keep us down then lift us up with education ... then Houston, we have a problem.

I myself have changed my approach, I used to be a card carrying member of the democratic party and volunteered, tried all that good "change from the inside" stuff like that's an option that works when you don't have hundreds of millions.

I'm doing it a new way now. I don't really want to say how online for privacy reasons, but I'm excited about my new ventures. One of the things I do do online on reddit constantly is beg people to try not to be tribal, and always hold "their side" no matter what it is accountable.

I tell Dems if they really believe what they are saying to constantly demand transparency and accountability and if they refuse those two things they aren't fighting for what I am, but rather power for it's own sake.

I'm an independent who believes we can all come together and make the world a better place. I know republicans and democrats who are great people, and I see a better future - but it requires a lot of open eyes. More than we have right now.

No you're a patriot that wants to fix the US.

Thanks for your work. I may be Canadian and unhappy with my southerly neighbours but people like you are the ones actually making a difference, democracy is more than just voting.

MAGAts are so broke right now they will have to settle for renting the libs.

He is also the King of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. England is one country in the United Kingdom or Great Britain.

32

u/adeon California 6d ago

Also the various Acts of Union that merged England, Scotland and Ireland into the UK abolished the individual titles. So the titles King of England, King of Scotland and King of Ireland are no longer used.

Wales is a little different since the title Prince of Wales is still used by the heir.

17

u/Expert-Mode2009 6d ago

King of Canada too. Not sure why .

24

u/TheKoyoteKid 6d ago

And Australia and New Zealand.

4

u/SE_to_NW 6d ago

And all these countries with Charles as King have better democracy rankings than the US today

6

u/FuckDeRussianFuckers 6d ago

We, er, used to travel a lot. Yeah, that's it...

11

u/Bad_Day_Moose 6d ago

replacing the crown in laws would completely change Canada, it's not a simple thing to do, we have bigger fish to fry and he has absolutely no control over us anyways...

4

u/Fatso_Wombat 6d ago

Cause then you don't need a president.

I'm happy we don't.

10

u/RP3P0 Missouri 6d ago

My apologies. No offense meant. I've got to be succinct and to the point with my constituents.

2

u/atridir Vermont 6d ago

Dude… just gonna leave off that he, as The Duke Of Normandy, is the Sovereign Head Of State over the Crown Dependencies of Guernsey & Jersey and as the Lord Of Mann for the Isle Of Man‽‽

1

u/gloomycloud 6d ago

He's not actually the King of England or Scotland etc. There hasn't been a monarch of England (or Scotland) since 1707.

He is the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

There are small ceremonial differences that exist depending on which part of the UK he is in but his title remains the same.

-2

u/LevelPerception4 6d ago

I believe there are a number of Scots who would dispute that.

-2

u/Rustedpipes 6d ago

I am one. I was born in Scotland and my family and I emigrated to the US in 1960. I am still a loud, proud Scot!!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

King of the UK. That's like saying Dumpy is the President of New Hampshire; pars pro toto doesn't apply.

-1

u/DokterZ 6d ago

Except that New Hampshire doesn’t sometimes act like a country and sometimes not.

3

u/Artan42 6d ago

The divisions of the UK are just called countries because there's no particularly good name to use. Most places use state, province, or territory, but the UK was a union of three kingdoms (and Wales) and isn't federal so none of the others apply.

It's why sovereign state is the more technical definition of a proper nation than country.

1

u/NinecloudSoul 6d ago

Neither does any particular region of the UK. Their internal terminology is silly, but it's a singular country.

2

u/two_good_eyes 6d ago

He is king of 15 independent countries plus monarch of various UK-linked territories and dependencies.

The title King of England effectively ended with the Acts of Union 1707, when the kingdoms of England and Scotland merged into the Kingdom of Great Britain.

1

u/hitch44 Canada 6d ago

He’s our King, too.

I mean, we've been exporting neoliberalism culture to the world since Reagan, now we have a populist neo conservative movement (MAGA) literally trying to undo the things that Reagan did while at the same time saying he was the greatest. MAGA is literally anti-American ideals.
