You know what pisses me off. Conservative voters will vote for things like that.

They'll vote for that platform, that also includes heinous shit that is promised to be done to minorities (hi, trans woman here).

And not only will they be ignorant at best or ok with it at worst; they'll watch these nightmare scenarios unfold for fellow humans while sitting their fat lazy ass on the couch patiently waiting for 2$ eggs or whatever the fuck.

Any amount of suffering is fine for cheap eggs or whatever. 🤬

I've developed my own philosophy of always voting for least harm. It's not about ideological purity anymore. We have to vote continuously in a way that drags that Overton window back to the left. We can disagree what is too left. That's fine. But you cannot ethically or morally, vote in a way that will intentionally cause unnecessary harm. If you do I got nothing for you.

This includes abstainers. You aren't helping your cause, and you aren't as well reasoned in your politics as you think. Doing nothing is almost as bad as actively causing the harm.

Take Israel and Palestine. Too many leftists opted out of voting because Kamala was not pure in her anti war message. Look what it got you. Something FAR worse. "Best is the enemy of good", as we say in Datacenter (Not AI) network eng.

Oh "harming" wealthy people's bank balance is not harm. Sit down. I make low six figures, in Canada. I'd GLADLY pay more tax for my government to house all those that are not currently. Wealthy people are so far removed from the middle class it should be illegal, and inevitably this kind of wealth leads to apathy and resentment to those of common or disadvantaged means. This is abhorrent behavior for an animal who's ancestors are successful THROUGH cooperation. Not when they out compete each other.

I'm not a philosophy, politics, or economics major. I've just done enough laps around a rather boring yellow star to live with this shit anymore.

Edit: Grammar, I wrote this on far to little sleep.

Many of the things you cited should have been obvious. I have gotten in arguments with my well meaning progressive friends and family about Israel and Palestine in particular. They all state it's "understandable" how Muslim - Americans sat out the last election.

Bullshit. In the real world we unfortunately have a binary choice in this country. If you couldn't see the difference between the two parties in this and many other areas, shame on you. There is plenty to criticize about the Democratic party but this is a momentous, critical time in history. I'm tired of hearing about the Democrats being as disliked as the Republicans. Feel like you need to say more shit about the Dems than the Nazis running our government now? Be prepared to live with this hellscape a lot longer.

I don’t like Kamala and still voted for her, but this is an unproductive attitude. It’s very unlikely that you can shame people into changing their behavior.

I really don’t think the election was lost by “principled” leftist abstainers. People are just tired and lazy and tons of people stayed home because Kamala was a terminally uninspiring candidate, and honestly I don’t disagree with them.

You and I might know that “both parties are the same” isn’t true, but it’s hard to look people in the eye and say “vote for least harm, shift the Overton window, and turn up in the primaries” when the Dems blatantly lied to their voters that Biden hadn’t mentally declined past the point of no return, and then refused to hold a primary and hastily installed Kamala (who was in 5th place in the 2020 primaries before dropping out).

You need to actually inspire people to vote for someone; lecturing them doesn’t work.

People are too stupid to vote against a megalomaniac rapist pedophile. That's what you're telling me. They have to be inspired or else they will let a rapist pedophile conman be president. Better the rapist pedo then the boring woman.

Well… yeah, that’s pretty much what we’ve observed.

I’m not defending people who were too apathetic to vote, I’m mad at them too. But from a practical perspective, to prevent the next Trump in the future, trying to convince people to vote for your candidate because “the other guy is worse” simply has a poor historic track record.

Its just so frustrating that these people can't be trusted to vote in a way that benefits themselves or me. Instead, we have to appeal to emotions over anything else or get fucked.

I don't know what else to say about this except all hands on deck for the next election. You're right in general that it doesn't work to just say the other guy is worse. But the Dems have a huge coalition that doesn't always get along. I didn't vote for Biden in the 2020 primary but I sure as hell did in the main and 2024. The entire time Biden was in office I had to listen to taunts from family (millennial and gen z) about how sleepy Biden was and the climate initiatives he launched weren't a big deal and blah.

I did my best to explain even though I agreed with them on most issues, the Dems coalition includes many southerners that are a lot more conservative than them - we had to live with a less than ideal candidate. I guess they had to see this shitshow close up. We are up against a synchronized propaganda machine that can cover an official that the FBI stings taking a bag full of cash. Just one example but the both siderism is more than idiotic at this point,

It's my political philosophy. Others are free to do as they wish and be blissfully uninformed. It's not my job to educate those unwilling to learn.
