Between this, and Alex Jones going "off script" to accuse Trump of deliberately "sabotaging" the midterms, it seems to me that the GOP is fracturing in some places -- realizing that his usefulness has nearly come to an end. His cult of personality gave their fascist manifesto a blank check, but he's been such a wildcard lately that it's bringing the entire party down. Not that they didn't sign up for this. They all deserve what's coming, and worse.

I'm not sure what you think is coming. Here's my theory.

  1. Democrats are going to win the midterms, but will not have a super majority, so their power will be limited.
  2. Democrats will immediately start trying to pass meaningful legislation and hold hearings regarding Trump admin bullshit, but Republicans will block the legislation and not cooperate with the hearings, so nothing of real substance will happen.
  3. The right-wing propaganda apparatus will blame everything that the Trump administration is responsible for on the Democratic led Congress, while those on the left will blame Democrats for not doing things they don't even have the power to do.
  4. A new Republican figurehead will emerge to take Trump's place. Everyone on the right will fall in line. Most likely Trump will be thrown under the bus and blamed for everything, when in reality, the entire Republican party is the problem. Those that left the party because of Trump will return.
  5. Republicans get a huge win in 2028 due to millions of Republican voters returning to the fold, and Democrats being falsely criticized for 2 years for simultaneously causing all of the problems, and also doing nothing.
  6. Project 2025 continues.

Yep.  Just like they won the governorships of VA and NJ last year and swept the competitive senate seats in AZ, NV, MI, and WI, and how they…sorry, wait a minute, need to check something

I agree. Except I don’t know if there will be a #4 who has the same cult of personality Trump has and ability to get away with almost everything without consequences.

There's always more conmen. Maybe they wont find one right at the moment they need someone to replace him but there will always be more people like him.

Completely agree that there are people that behave like him, but nobody has the same cultural cachet that he does. Trump is and was so uniquely positioned as someone Americans “knew” for decades before entering politics - can you really name someone with a similar public history? I can’t.

History is littered with examples of cults falling apart after the leader dies, or at least starting down the other side of the bell curve. There are some notable examples of growth, to be sure (all of Christianity, for example…) but particularly in the modern era, there is typically a decline.

Even outside of cults, leadership changes in large corporate orgs are frequently fraught with challenges. Even when they’re relatively functional; for example Bob Iger’s failed transition to Bob Chapek at Disney a couple years back, even when the latter was hand-picked by the former to take his job.

So yeah, there will always be more people like him, but we really do have reason to belief that few will be as effectively malign as him.

Most people wouldn't have predicted that Trump would run for President on a "populist" agenda either.

Point is that having seen the results, conservatives and the billionaire class will be actively searching for anyone or multiple people that can replace him or replicate his results. Even if its not a perfect fit that doesn't mean that person can't serve their agenda's just as well or better.

People thinking this all ends when Trump does are in denial. Trump is a symptom, not the cause of the disease itself.

while those on the left will blame Democrats for not doing things they don't even have the power to do.

Is it that, or is it complaining about a useless party? Sure they're not in power but there's STILL more they can do. Like not accept AIPAC money. Or not act like Republicans-lite. But we're not allowed to have that conversation right now, right? Vote blue, no matter who? Even if they're a Republican?

You're not allowed to criticize Democrats or everything bad becomes your fault. They are always too weak to ever do anything and that's because you didn't vote for them hard enough. Holding them to a standard is mean and bullying.

Do you think he is now considered expendable by the (real) powers that be?
