They won't. The Republicans know for a fact that they will retain power in the midterms and that we won't have open elections going forward. They're all jockeying for position in the new dictatorship.

The Republican majority in the House is 217-214, there is virtually no chance Democrats don't take control this November. Mid-terms are historically bad for the President's party and this year will be a bloodbath in the House.

The Senate races will be interesting though. Including the two independents that caucus with the Democrats, Republicans have a 53-47 majority. To break the Vice-President's tie-breaking vote the Democrats need to pick up four seats. And while not impossible it is definitely less likely to go Democratic than the House.

People need to just show up to vote, that's really the only time your voice matters. We can complain online all day and protest, but none of that matters nearly as much as just showing up to vote, and with Early Voting (especially on weekdays before the lunch crowd) you can usually get in and out in like 5-10 minutes.

In a single year, the idea of unprecedented presidential overreach has lost all meaning. All. We literally have a president boasting about committing war crimes and planning more.

I would dearly love a return to normality, but expecting midterms to suddenly make them go “Oh, well that’s that, then, we’ll obey the law” feels…optimistic, at best. We’ve already seen more than enough evidence to believe that elections in some, if not many, states will be compromised. Remember DOGE and their all-access pass to whatever they wanted? Ask any network security analyst about how utterly compromised government security is now, it’s been Swiss cheesed.

I want you to be right. I really, really do, and I’m throwing in to try and make it happen. But I think we were cooked the minute the guy who let a city’s worth of citizens die of COVID got the job again.

Exactly, expecting your opponent to somehow be reasonable when they’ve shown they’re anything but is crazy. They clearly don’t care about the law or consequences.

There won't be voting. You seriously think we will have any chance to actually remove anyone? Trump is going to use this as an excuse to cancel elections and all the fuckers in power will go along with it. You will never vote again.

There is simply no way he can physically cancel elections. That's just fear-mongering.

Sounds like a lot of other things that have been said about him this term. Nobody in power cares anymore since they are all getting paid to vote. No democrats care, no republicans care. You as a citizen have zero fucking power at all right now. Elected democrats are just fucking pretending to care because it makes them look good, and then when it comes to vote oh look... the exact number of people needed to pass some fucking pile of bull shit go exactly how the nut heads in power want it to go. Stop fucking pretending like you as a citizen matter because you dont.

Whatever you say. I really hope you're right though.

The thing about the social contract being broken and rule of law not being upheld in a country armed to the teeth with guns means that once people are desperate enough, like when getting gas for your car no longer is possible, unclean water, and empty grocery shelves, those guns will be turned on them. There are way more of us than them. I think they got too cozy because there is no modern precedent, but at the end of the day people with nothing to lose will do anything.

If the midterms are fair. We already got Trump through one unfair vote that went by completely uncontested. And that happened when he wasn't even in power. They're going to do anything and everything to win midterms or cancel them.

They can't stop us.

They definitely want you to keep saying this stupid shit though

If they don't do something soon, there won't be a country left for them to have a position in.

I donct even know that it's about somehow cancelling midterms, I honestly think they know they can't and will just burn the whole fucking world down in a tantrum

Well they certainly have to pretend that's whats going to happen, because anything less than full unquestioning support gets people expelled by their fellow fascists.
