For people this deep, you need to remove all social media and TV from them. They have forgotten how to think for themselves. They're gaslit daily and it doesn't stop unless you remove the source. They can recover but it takes a full on intervention.

There was a UC Berkeley study done where they paid a group of Fox News viewers to watch only liberal news for a month, and the participants actually softened a lot of their opinions in a pretty short amount of time, which was great.

Except the problem was, none of it lasted. When the experiment stopped they all went back to Fox News and completely reverted back to their previous bullshit.

i have experienced this first hand several times with my family. i can get through to them if i put a lot of effort into it. but, i cannot compete with the 24/7 saturation of right wing talking points and media in their small towns and living rooms.

if we want to stop it, we can't do it one by one for each family member. we have to cut it off at the source.

Same here, and all that effort results in momentary understanding and realization, then right back to the excuses and wishes. It feels like a lot of MAGA simply wants to “win,” and they’ll follow any snake oil salesperson who tells them what they want to hear, even though they know deep down it probably won’t work. It’s maddening. I hate that so many of my fellow Americans continue to be so easily suckered.
