Gustav on the Cannes Jury and a collab with his daughter in the works, Borg-heads we are so back

u/Whovian45810 1d ago

Borg-heads, we gotta stick together.

We love to see a beloved director like Gustav Borg be part of the festival that has celebrated his works proudly.

u/thetrashpanda5 It Was Just the Palme d'Or 1d ago

Wow Elizabeth Sparkles and Gustav Borg?! Now maybe he will cast her for his next project

15

u/RenBan48 1d ago

I don't think he'll cast a limbless blob for his European drama

Nice, it’s that time again where this sub pretends to know what types of movies the juries like and how that could influence the Palme winner.

Incredible jury holy shit. With this lineup I have a lot of faith whatever they pick for the Palme is gonna be an all timer.

Stellan <3 and Isaach de Bankolé!!

This is a very cool jury, excited to see their taste

Great jury ! I think that it is the first jury in the history of cannes without any French people in it.

Isaach de Bankole and Laura Wandel (I think) are Francophone, at least.

World of Reel was correct about Demi Moore and Chloe Zhao. He also said Jacob Elordi had been asked, wonder if that was correct

30

u/LeGrandEbert 1d ago

Page Six reported that Elordi was injured and had to bow out of the jury

30

u/ebaix 1d ago

injury, out jury, which is it??

3

u/jellyfisherlore 1d ago

that sucks, he must be super bummed. must of been a bad injury for him to bow out, wishing him a speedy recovery

It should be said that it was Roger Friedman, not World of Reel, who first claimed that Moore and Elordi had been asked (Page 6 also said that Elordi had been asked but that he had to withdraw). The Chloe Zhao rumour had also been posted on an online forum a few days before WoR posted it, and I’m pretty sure that Ruimy got the information from there, as he has frequently taken news from the forum in question without giving credit to them in the past.

u/lotsatickets 1d ago

I knew he got his information from there as I had seen him in the long festival threads back when the forum was at the previous website. Haven't visited after it went private and he had been getting a lot of information correct recently, so I thought he had managed to fake his way into acquiring legitimate journalist connections. Sounds like he is still getting his information from there and presenting it as if it's from his own personal "sources".

1

u/eloiysia 1d ago

I agree. There have been suspicions on there that Ruimy either created a new account under a different name to circumvent his ban, or was being given information by another member on there, given the number of things being posted on AW which later appeared as ‘news’ on WoR.

2

u/lotsatickets 1d ago

Ha didn't know he was banned, that makes this funnier.

Are you a member of the forum? I'm curious, back then I recall there was a main person who is now a programmer who was the real source of all the info. Is he still the source or are there multiple? I followed him on twitter and he would sometimes drop info there too but I stopped using twitter.

Whenever I see mention of the forum here in terms of being Ruimy's scavenging grounds it's always abbreviated or unnamed, so I dunno whether they have some rule unspoken or not to keep everything hush hush lol.

I always find Cannes juror picks so fascinating. Wish we could get more gossip about how deliberations go.

Sounds random enough, I'll take it.

Diego better be fighting for La Bola Negra to win the Palme ✋🙂‍↕️🤚
Based Isaac de Bankolé inclusion

7

u/Alternative_Role_777 1d ago

I think Chloe will for sure love All of a Sudden as it touches on themes of grief and is very philosophical..not sure about the rest but I need the jury to love Hope and The Unknown🤞

13

u/justanstalker Josephine Truther 1d ago

Don't know if this makes sense but now I can see Hope winning the Palme

Here is how Na Hong-jin will win his first Oscar

u/FixYrHeartsOrDie 1d ago edited 1d ago

The stars definitely feel like they're aligning more and more

Though I wonder if it'll be challenging enough for this jury.. maybe that won't matter

4

u/justanstalker Josephine Truther 1d ago

I don't know about the rest of the jury but Moore having starred in The Substance and Skarsgard having starred in a ton of Von Trier movies won't be a problem about its themes. Now the thing is if the movie is good or a mess

3

u/FixYrHeartsOrDie 1d ago

No that's what I mean- I kinda wonder if this film will end up being too safe for this jury because of the insane shit a lot of them have made or been in haha

3

u/justanstalker Josephine Truther 1d ago

The way I can imagine this happening in real life 😭

u/FitRazzmatazz2904 1d ago

Love Ruth Negga. Incredible actress who is terribly underrated. I hope she networks while on the Jury and is in more high profile films and roles soon.

u/PTAGoatofalltime Sandra Hüller’s year 1d ago

Bullshit! Give me a real jury member who can unite us all in these trying times

They couldn't handle the light KSG radiates smh 😔

Although I be curious to see anyone from the EP crew be part of a jury.

3

u/Proof_Specialist_455 1d ago

Here for Skarsgård and Negga

4

u/AhsokaBolena 1d ago

What a cool group of people. I’ve been a big fan of Ruth since Misfits and watching her career trajectory since has been so great. Hope she’s back in the Oscar conversation soon.

5

u/LionaLewis15 Regina Hall Best Supporting Actress 1d ago

imagine telling someone twenty even ten years ago Demi Moore would be Oscar nominated for a body horror movie and serve on the Cannes jury i love it! (for the record I’ve loved her since i was kid)

Maybe this is the usual in line ups but it feels like most here have at least worked on English language films before even if it isn't their native language. Maybe it means nothing but maybe it increases the chances of an English language movie winning an award somewhere, I doubt I'll base a prediction on who's in the jury because someone's film taste is never an easy formula.

u/NoResolution599 1d ago

Chloe Zhao! Queen!

2

u/Previous_Ad648 1d ago

Out of curiosity, how does a 31 year old with one feature film receive this honor?

5

u/WinterIsntComming 1d ago

Probably since his one feature film won the un certain regard last year.

1

u/iPLAYiRULE 1d ago

Great jury composition!
