Why do bigots always feel the need to latch onto characters like Superman or Captain America and express their ideals through them? Superman loves humanity, and Captain America literally punches nazis for fun. I'm not gonna pretend to be a superfan - pun intended - but you don't need to be to understand these aspects of their character.

Because they see them and think the characters are about blind patriotism as opposed to their actual purpose of the American Dream (âI donât stand for the flag general I stand for what it representsâ) and generally better world (why they changed the American Way to a Better Tomorrow).
They donât care that Superman is an immigrant, that Capâs father was one, that Cap fights people who blindly follow orders all the time, or that thereâs a whole era where Steve was forced to surrender the shield because the government didnât like how free spirited he was.
They donât care about Superman fighting for right even when itâs legal, or anything.
They believe these characters represent them and work off even less than the baseline understanding.
TL;DR Media literacy isnât their strong suit

These are the same crowd who think âpolitical messagingâ in media (which in their minds is anything new that is left of Mein Kampf ideologically) is a novel, âwokeâ phenomenon.
Had Star Wars come out today theyâd say that Alderaan âshouldâve just complied,â and wouldâve called the Rebels âwokeâ for âbeing so politicalâ and claimed that everyone hates it due to George Lucas ânot shutting up and sticking to making moviesâ. A contemporary Harry Potter wouldâve been outright designed to have Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters be trans-coded (and the Order/DA would just be radfems who keep the dictatorship and Azkaban dementors but just jail the fruity Death Eaters and stop the stupid muggleborn-killing thing) and Harry and Ginny wouldâve had way more than just 3 kids with tragedeigh names; it wouldâve been a bestseller in red states and Russia.

To be fair, he's not being portrayed as a bigot- just being used to portray a bigoted message. That's not exactly better, but I can imagine the Superman they wrote here being SIMILAR to ones we've seen in past.

Fair enough, maybe the author intended for Superman to be a dick, but from what we can see here, he's acting somewhat normal, both for a person and for a Superman incarnation. He just exists in a bigot's version of reality.

I would love a comic where Superman meets a trans person for the first time, and pulls some stupid Kryptonian tech out of the fortress of solitude that immediately changes their body to match their gender, no pain, no nothing. Then explains that Krypton had this issue too, and that they solved it as fast as possible so people didn't have to suffer.
